If anyone is new to weightlifting, just remember it is okay to start with light weights! Practice getting good form down first. No need to go beast mode right away. Nothing can set you back from a health goal like an injury- trust me I’ve been there!

I recommend Sydney Cummings. She posts programmed workouts for free on RUclips, every single day new videos! They are great workouts including cardio and a lot of weight training and they vary from 30-45 minutes. Rarely are they a full hour. It's much more manageable, esp if you can knock it out first thing in the morning/before work. I've used her stuff for close to 3 years and never gotten bored of them. Lots of variety.

maybe a little late and i’m no expert at all but here are my two cents
      - if you can, workout from home. there are lots of free youtube videos and even chat gpt can write you a program (use your own judgement). i have some dumbbells which are a one time investment, some bands and a yoga mat and this really motivates me to actually roll out of bed and move my body rather than getting ready, going to a gym etc
      - if you can, multitask. i got a walking pad which i like to use while watching a movie and that way time flies by and i would have watched that movie anyway. you can also call your friends and catch up while on a walk or get off a bus stop earlier etc
      - but also from my experience i still had to sacrifice part of my social life. but i try to have a good balance and even if i skip a few workouts or steps: anything you do is better than anything you don’t do.
so my last thing so keep in mind is that we’re being active for our health and benefits etc, but there’s other things to health and wellness too. so if you sometimes can only squeeze in a 10 minute body weight workout, it’s still better than if you had just scrolled instagram for 10 minutes.
you got this and be kind to your mind and body 🫶🏻

As a fellow asthma sufferer, let me tell you. Getting right medication mix for you will make you more likely to be running. I was very resistant to this for a long time but I used to be dead after cardio. Like, I wouldn’t have energy to do anything else for the rest of the day, wouldn’t sleep well, and would fell terrible the next day. I am so grateful I finally got assigned an asthma nurse who really convinced me to try out different medications. Now I can do high impact activity without coughing and it improved my quality of life greatly.

Allana, I’m definitely here for “Hot Girl Spring/Summer” same as “Hot Girl Winter”. Last year I ran (like Forest Gump.😂😂) to where I did a half marathon. This year, however, I’ve decided on walking a minimum 3 miles a day and focusing on weight and I have been very happy with that decision. To improve your running journey, I would say walk a minute and run a minute, walk 2 minutes and run 2 minutes and so on until you get a rhythm. Also remember to breathe. ❤❤

Yes yes 100x yes! So deeply stand by everything you said. There’s this crazy misconception by people that working out is just to get thin or be a body builder! Functional fitness is REAL. Everyone (who is able) should be walking/light cardio at least an hour collectively a day and doing strength training!! Strength training doesn’t just affect muscles it makes your bones strong! As we get older our bones get weaker. This is about longevity & there are so so many free resources online. Love Joe Holder (he’s got great stretches up on RUclips Allana), love the Nike Training App, love RUclips and Instagram for free workouts. Just knowing they’re there is amazing.
My version of hot girl spring/summer is that in addition to strength training I really want to join a climbing gym and get in to bouldering! Also my trainer is trying to get me to start Zone 2 cardio so we’ll see how that goes. 💪🏻🏃🏼‍♀️

Trying nose strips because the idea of waking up with my mouth taped kinda scared me! On the nights I use them, the nose strips definitely make a difference

I love my Ora ring a lot. I don't feel it a lot at all. I use it for tracking sleep, mostly for guided meditations and tracking my period. I have an apple watch and it's so comfortable to wear it in sleep or sometimes it's not going with my outfit. So yes, I agree it is pricy but it's sooooo worth it. ❤

Omg I’m dying cause I have the same list of things I believe my body should be able to do / want to be able to do 😂 a push up, running a mile, pull up, swimming, general skills in case I need an escape plan loll and for literally no reason being able to do a one handed cartwheel for as long as I can loll as for the running bit, you’ve got this! Last year I hated running, all my life I hated running lool but I started running end up last summer (struggled to run for ten mins straight) and then did a 10k turkey trot and it blows my mind now that I can just go out and run a 10 k

Yes to mouth tape! You don’t need to buy anything specifically branded for mouth tape, you can just cut strips of kinesthesiology tape. Mouth breathing is so bad for us and I feel so much better when I wake up now. Esp if you have a cough from dry air, breathing thru your nose fixes that!

Mouth taper here 😂. It is amazing! I have been doing this for the last 6 months and I truly feel the difference when I don't tape vs. when I do! I find KT Tape works best😊

Allana re: mouthtape, check out the book “Breathe” by James Nestor. It was SO interesting-covers how important nasal breathing is and can increase performance/physical output, etc. the mini study he did with this other guy was fascinating. Literally all of their vitals worsened when they were forced to breathe through their mouth. Highly recommend!

I have similar goals! And we're both young but apparently this entire list (plus not drinking) are pivotal for general healthy longevity especially after our estrogen levels start to go wonky.

Anyone starting to take supplements, please do your research first! It’s not as simple as I’m tired so I’ll take vitamin B etc.. the way the body absorbs them, when best to take them and combinations of taking different ones are all major factors as well as the quality of the vitamin you’re taking. Also, research the side effects of upping your dose of certain vitamins and minerals as they can counteract others you are producing naturally and can cause negative effects. Research is key 👌

Well… thanks to your ‘scenarios’ I can’t unsee it now. And since I have exactly the same hate relationship with running I will be absolutely miserable but… at least I will escape from anyone who tries to catch me 😂

I'm so into your tennis journey! I don't think the average person realizes how much endurance it takes to play a singles match! It's tough! Love your progress, and if you're ever in Portland, OR and you want to hit some balls I would love to have you as my guest at my tennis club, (or the one I belong to I should say, lol) 🎾💚
