Super duper Steve. All this time I have never used either of those features. But I will now! Love the "double d" comment...good thing I wasn't taking a drink at that moment.
What if you added another pencil slot vertically on the right side. Then use that to put a pencil in and set your focus. Then you wouldn't disturb your meticulously placed pencils in the jig. When I got my laser about 6 weeks ago the first thing I made was a pencil big to do pencils for my teacher daughter. Wish I had seen this first. Made lots of mistakes. I had a rectangle a bit wider than the pencil to make the eraser area larger.forgot to turn it off and cut across all the pencils.
Hi Steve, I changed my name from gbwsf just for you 😂. It was my initials with SF appended for when I lived Santa Fe. Thanks for this video. I hadn’t made the changes yet and since I mostly do one offs didn’t think about variable text or virtual arrays. Well done.
I thought that since he has grey hairs in his beard, meaning he is getting old, it was just his bone joints rubbing together & making those sounds. . But all kidding aside, this is a great informative tutorial.
Hey HoboWW - love your videos - here's a suggestion for easier and more accurate centering of the virtual text array . . . 1) Find the Center of your Text Box of the first pencil 2) Draw a Vertical Line from there to the Center Point of the text box of the second pencil 3) Check the height of the line, then delete it 4) Proceed to the Array Tool and Select "Distance from Center" instead of "Padding between edges" 5) Use your line height for the Y-Spacing and all your text should be perfectly centered from first to last pencil
Few questions .. why do you print the text on the pencil upside down? Are you left handed? All the factory text is made to read it while you write with the thing. ..
Who says it's upside down? I explain why I set mine up this way in the previous video showing the design process of the template. Since English is read left to right, I start my text at the eraser. This way, as the pencil is sharpened with use, the text is "consumed" from the end of the text and not the beginning. Many folks engraving pencils do it this way. There is no right or wrong way. Not all brands print their logos the same. Some are even done vertically, which is an option when engraving.
I don't know what I have different, but when you shift & select layer, your whole virtual array gets selected. When I do it, only the first on gets selected. Any idea?
Because it's a "virtual" array. They first one is all that actually exists. The first one is the only one you can select. Once it's selected, if you move it, the "virtual" array will follow and maintain its structure.
This is the second product file this week someone has said was corrupt. I have renewed the file in the database. But I will need you to contact me at hobowithwood.com with your order number and I can send you a new file if needed. Thanks for letting me know.
23:52 you could engrave numbers from 1 to 24 in front of the slits to solve that "problem"
Great tutorial all the same
Great suggestion. Like the one mentioned at 1:52. Then demonstrated at 26:26. Did you actually watch the video?

This was a great video. I'll have to go back and watch your first one on making the jig.

if you're right handed,

👌👍
Steve, I downloaded the jig file from your website and parts of the text are upside down compared to most of the text and pencils.

@@HoboWithWood no problem Steve. I just flipped it around and it's good to go.
