I picked up a car at VW a few months ago, and the car being collected at the same time was a €74k Tiguan r-line in some sort of expensive unique colour, and literally all the boxes ticked. Madness. Presumably a company car of some sort 😀
Here in Brazil they have "released" the old 2022 version right now in 2024, stripped of 4motion and utilizing a 300tsi 186hp engine, and it's really expensive for brazilians standards. in a raw conversion with our salaries, it's something like 300.000 Euros, taking the conversion rate 1/6.
Before switching to the Volkswagen ID.4, my wife owned two Tiguan R-Line models. However, she’s not a fan of the sporty direction the R-Line has taken in this generation. Personally, I find the wheels and seats a bit too ‘boy racer’ for my taste. It’ll be interesting to see how many mums opt for the Elegance this time around-it feels a bit classier to me. If I were choosing the R-Line, I’d definitely go for the leather seats to tone down the interior.
Nice design that i think will age well, unlike some of the awful kia and Hyundai models of late. A lot less chavvy than the previous r line tiguan. But you're right about some of the cost saving approaches inside. No leg extenders for the front passenger is just such blatant penny pinching. At that price its laughable. Never bought a new car in my life and the way things are going i doubt i ever will. Ill let others waste their money and take the hit.
"Nice legs- shame about the space" (altho, it does look roomy) .... its a throwback from a late 70's song ... but hey you said Not to say anything about your legs ... Red rag to a bull mate .. :) But Nobbly... I mean Nobby ! great review as always ... ps Have a great day :)
This mite be a good car to buy in a year or 2 when the price drops. These suv s are comfortable to drive and the ride height helps. But I’d be buying a Skoda r/s for family type reasons and still enjoy to drive with 15/20 grand still in my back pocket
Great review as always mark , but it’s got to be said almost €70 grand for a Tiguan is insane. The cost of new cars has gone beyond a joke , and yet these things will be everywhere in a year . The money people are willing to spend on cars is also insane
People live off finance, buying what they can't afford just to impress the neighbours. This is the economic model the western world is fueled by. As I always say, without PCP/finance the motor industry would be dead overnight.
I bet the 1.5L TSI variants would feel very underpowered. The diesel would be ok but there’s a massive stigma with diesel cars, with higher depreciation rates and concerns they may be banned from city centres in the future.
What higher depreciation? It's electric that's seeing it's value drop like a stone at the moment. I'm sure diesel might go that way in the future if it's taxed out of existence but right now diesel is not depreciating anything like electric 😊
I’m sorry that is unforgivable to have shitty hard plastics in a model that is meant to represent the flagship trim ! They have stripped the new Volkswagens and they are meant to be the newest models! You only have to look at the T Roc even in R line ! Get 17 inch wheels! I had a sel Tiguan 18 plate and it had absolutely everything! This one you don’t even get pan roof ! For nearly 70 thousand euro ! 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ polo Gti which is flagship model you don’t even get heated seats unless you spec it . Madness mate ! Great review again!
I did a business trip a few years ago. Flew into Dublin and picked up a hire car. They upgraded me to a Tiguan. My destination was Westport. Although the Tiguan was practical and typical Volkswagen, it was not exciting.
Mmmm. €67,000 and still they managed to take cost out. Definitely take your point with soft tops of back doors but not having electric seats and only as an extra…… odd no covers in the front. Another €2 saved ……. Look forward to next review Mark.
I just drove the X130e last month. Lovely car but nowhere near big enough for family holidays. Just ordered one of these in 272ps plug in hybrid. Let’s hope it was the right decision….
Top R line Spec has no keyless entry or electric boot it's an optional extra at 67k...elegance and launch lower spec cars have it as standard.. Are Vw ice cars compensating the money losses Vw are loosing on their electric ID ranges of cars....
@ajmeehan86 I have the diesel R line ordered but pricing is gone nuts...leather seats 3k more keyless 1400 extra matrix heat lights 640 extra hitch is 1500 euro extra on an already jacked up price...Phew is 3k cheaper than diesel model
@@NobbyOnCars Functional Pe6 Comfort package Easy open package keyless access which includes the electric boot is standard in the launch edition and Elegance but an option on the Irish R line at 1345 Euro...this is crazy on the R line spec at this price just double checked Irish brochure and was told this by VW last week on my order...electric boot is not standard really a let down at this price now.
@@Bimmer_e90 I have the PHEV on order full spec and again coming in at 68k. Do you reckon that 150 brake will give it enough poke? You can get a XC60 for similar money new but that car felt very outdated
If it’s anything like my babied Golf it will be shit. High pressure fuel pump at 40,000 km. New DSG $5000 at 70,000 km. Water leak into carpet. Leaking through speaker. Strip interior twice $1600. Unfortunately it’s brilliant to drive.
As regards to cost cutting on VW interiors etc , we tend to forget they're still making up for the dieselgate hole... What was it...33.3 Billion US dollars, that's a whole lotta soft touch door card trim. And one of the reasons I avoid VW...Not because they did it, but because of the penny pinching NOW!.
Hard plastics, no sunroof, no electric seats, a 1.5 engine and euros67,000! No thanks. I can see why VW is in dire straits. The Koreans and Chinese car makers must be rubbing their hands together.
VW have really lost their way with design and quality. I’d say they are around the level of Vauxhall these days, this is not even close to Skoda. Characterless VW to go with their other products.
Vw is No longer the peoples car, over charging customers for that VW badge . We need better cars in Europe value for money. We need more brands like BYD U. This tiguan is soooo ugly.😂
Thanks Nobby as always for magic videos. However I would rather stick to my Skoda Karoq Style TDI DSG for €47k VW losing the plot price going up quality going down.

ok, no comment on the things we can’t mention 👀! Nice review though 🏅👍🏽

lovely car. interior looks a nice place to be.
Much prefer the old style to this

Waiting for mine to arrive in July
Good luck, saw that on the road yesterday. Oh my god it's ugly. I guess somebody has to buy ugly cars too 😂 . Cancel order ASAP!

Have you driven the 150bp PHEV? Wondering how the power is like on it?
The R-Line is all show (more sporty looks), but no go. The center console is noticeably spartan. Wish the console/cup holders had a cover.
Cover for what? To spill coffee in there?!

almost 70k? can get a glb amg line for few grand more and u get 7 seats. that seems like a better option
Do I see real buttons on the steering wheel?
Ya might do…

My lease company its the other way round the Rav4 design £470 a month
Tiguan r line £385

I've been hearing the whole time aura trim line 😂😂
The launch model is very well spec'd with a price of under 50K.
For less money you can have a BMW X1 with all the bells and whistles! They’re roughly the same size.
And one cylinder less…

Lies
Is it possible to get the 13-inch infotainment system on the R-Line instead of the 15-inch one? The 15-inch seems too large. 😒
Wouldn’t imagine so. It’s big alright!
yes
The 12.9 (13") is standard. The 15" is optional. Even the 13" is too big for my taste.
where do ppl find 70k cost for this car ? here whit everything petrol 1.5 engine is 52k, disel is 58k and hybrid is 60k.....hmmm

150 bhp, that over speed alarm will be quiet. Makes the Mazda CX-60 very good value.

Inflation is everywhere and the car market is no different. Sticker shock is common these days. The average price of a new car is 50k.
Why did the designers think them wheels are a good idea

Mix of kia sportage and hyundai
Sadly only looks good in R Line! Else looks like a weird Kuga 😅
German copy toyota harrier?
Too curvy and looks very “Lexus” around the bumpers.

I do agree as alot of VW of late have looked awful to me but this looks just more upmarket
All VW products aren’t good these days, especially Seat, Skoda and VW.
Not quite as characterless as the id range, those really do make electric cars seem like household appliances
@terrydelahunt842 totally agree on this point. Why though? Surely VW know these products need to be good value and desirable?!?
I know what you’re saying. But I do like this new face, I prefer to see VW pay more attention to the quality first!
They tried to copy old Peugeot 3008 front end😅😅😅😅

I'm not saying cars aren't expensive, but overcharging? Have you priced a car feature for feature. Do it with some of its competition and come back.
It now looks just like every other bland SUV out there. Zero character.
