Just wanted to say your channel is so refreshing in the world of guitar RUclips. I feel like my taste in music is underrepresented in guitar communities in favor of techy metal stuff of jam band dudes. Your lessons always make me really excited to pick up the guitar and make the music I want to make without feeling like I need to be Steve Vai or Derek Trucks ( not that there’s anything wrong with those dudes haha) peace ✌️
Utterly agree and will be doing the same - beautiful arrangement of one of the all time great songs. I had the pleasure to be playing on a BBC session with my band many years ago, sat in the corridor writing lyrics with the singer and the late great Dale Griffin - drummer with Mott the Hoople and then BBC producer - came and listened and said, "Hey guys that's a really cool song". We never made it as a band but I will always treasure that compliment from a legend like Dale. Was sad to hear he passed away in 2016. True gentleman and it's generous souls like him that gave a then young bunch of kids with guitars and dreams, a moment in the sunshine. I bet he never thought much about it or even us again as we plummeted into obscurity, but there are times when the world of music is a wonderful place to live 😊
Eric your videos are sooooooo good!! You have one of the best guitar channels on youtube, at least in my opinion :) Thank you so much for putting the effort you put in making them, they really made me a better guitarist. Also, I LOVE your playing!!!!!
4:50, thanks for that. I’ve never played my barres with the thumb over the top, but have been trying lately in an effort to “be authentic.” It’s a trap that kills the inspiration to just play the damn thing.
This is a refreshing video. I'm going to have to do some transposing to make it work for bass, but I think it will be worth it, so I'm buying the tabs and backing tracks.
I'll be getting this lesson for sure, reminds me of your great lesson "Hendrix Double-stops on Nothing Compares 2U". Like that one, I've just got to manipulate the jam track so it's a longer loop...
Absolutely brilliant playing on this classic song. I believe it was Mott's original guitarist Mick Ralphs who origanally played on this track. Much later, of course Ronson played it brilliantly.
One of the best singles ever, I bought it when it came out, because I'm an old guy. Bowie penned, but Mott/Hunter/Ralphs just made the track so special (Mick Ralphs plays the lead on the Mott version I believe). This weekends' work for sure. A wonderful arrangement, man. A great full stop on a very weird week. So good you're back. Sidenote: Check out the 633 Engineering Dragonfly RT 5 watt Class-A amp. Oh man.
Wonderful breakdown of one of best rock and roll anthems. I read that it was Mick Ralphs, not Ronson they played it on Hoople’s record. Either way, I couldn’t imagine a better opening lead line in a million years. It jumps out of the speakers and pulls you into the sky. That doesn’t happen every day.
It’s funny - when I went to music school that’s what I thought I wanted to be. But, I much prefer teaching and working on my own art to hustling for sessions gigs!
Eric you should try out some stuff in Phrygian dominant, been experimenting with it a lot lately and it’s super fun to do cowboy chords and western-y soloing with (and any style really) but think you would dig it!
Where the HELL have you been hiding that S4..?😃😎👍 Radioshop pups to boot...?😁😎🖖 GREAT tune...when it 1st debuted it stopped traffic on L.A. Freeways😎👍 Thanks for this lesson sir😎👍❤🖖
@@karllongbottomguitars9192 Became aware of them from Chris Buck, and had to listen to every set they have🤣 Impressive indeed. Am a IMMENSE fan of your work. Perhaps one day one of your S4's will be mine🤞🤞🤞🤞😎👍
This off topic, but what are your thoughts on baritone guitar? How do you use it in a mix? Do you have a favorite baritone guitar? Thanks for all the music and knowledge!
I really want one! I haven't owned one since the early 2000s - they're not very useful all the time, but every so often they're just the right thing. Kinda like a wah wah pedal :-)
My amps are pretty well interchangeable - some are brighter than others, some are darker. Depending on the guitar I use, I may want to accentuate that or compensate for it with pedals. The Vox is good and stingy, especially with strats. But I wanted that for this video so yay! Really I just love all the cute little grill cloths and tolexes
There’s so much! I just let friends and algorithms recommend stuff to me! Mitski, John Grant, IDLES, garden and villa, - I am definitely not one of those people who thinks all the good music happened already!
Hahaaaaa, now we have some intrigue…. Was it Mick Robson or Mick Ralphs that played it. The all knowing internit seems to say that Mick Robson was not in the studio when it was recorded but maybe he had already come up with the melody and Mick Ralphs copied it🤔🤔🤔. We need a detective…

No matter what you play, it always remind me of the beauty of the instrument.
Thanks so much Bruno - I try!
frick'n nailed that emotional intensity of the melody. so good.
Thanks Rob!
You truly have carved your own niche...nobody else is really doing guitar like this on YT that I'm aware of. Thank you 🙏!
Good Lord! That was worth a two week wait. Beautiful playing, good sir. Thank you.

super tasteful as always! and the way you dig into the bend at 0:45 ;)
The playing, guitar and appropriate head movements are especially crisp, excellence
I guess I'll be ordering this tab.. such a great arrangement Eric, thank you.

Really nice tones and lesson, I am gonna have to learn this. Does anyone else get reminded of The Beatles 'Across the Universe' in the verses?
Wow this is a real eye opener

How do you decide which amp to use for each video?
My amps are pretty well interchangeable - some are brighter than others, some are darker. Depending on the guitar I use, I may want to accentuate that or compensate for it with pedals. The Vox is good and stingy, especially with strats. But I wanted that for this video so yay!

Yeah - it is a cutey.
Loving the Vibro Champ Reverb that you recommended a while back.
Hey,hey buddy you are rad ,really
Thanks man!
So the guitar is hollow-bodied. Is there any neck dive? How would you rate the against any other start type guitars you have played?
I can guarantee you that there is no neck dive,
I haven’t noticed and neck dive - the hollow body gives it a tiny bit extra bite in the neck position, which is perfect for me!
‘Chords can be as complicated as you want but very often times classic melodies are pentatonic’ - Don’t sleep on that everybody!
The best version is Bowie's with Ronson where he plays with his usual distinctive simple but effective brilliance.
Ariel Bender?
👍🏻👍🏻
Bob Ross is the Eric Haugen of painting.
easy listening version?
Is that a gazelle on your headstock?
Ha ha, no it's a K morphing into an L

Random question of the week for Professor Haugen. What do you think of The Milk Carton Kids?
I like ‘em - kinda a Gillian Welch spin off which is a-ok by me!

Awesome, but why Hendrix in title? Give some love to Mott
It doesn’t really go it sounds like. Maybe more of a Gilmour approach would work.
