This was a different Era. The message is that you can options. At that time, "city jobs" were low paying and targeted minorities as their primary employees. There were very few benefits...hence the sanitation March and strike. Even then, change was slow. Black families valued the opportunity to learn. For many of us, college was exposure to a world and cultures we never knew existed. You learned various skills to manage the real world, especially as a professional that was a minority. This was before colleges were all about money. Back when they were focused on culture, advancement and civil rights. Some things you can't put a price tag on.

I grew up with this show. Every week for years. There was no social media back then and these characters came into my home and became our best friends. I believe it is because these stories were etched on my heart at a very impressionable age has contributed to making me a well rounded open minded colorblind human being. When the going gets tough 30 years later I sing this theme song to myself and I know everything is going to be all right. This simple series had such an impact on my young life that when the Cosby stuff came about I was in 5g he denial camp for the longest time because he was America's TV dad & that news is still devastating. I'm am so happy these clips are still available on the net and there empowering messages are still touching the world.

I can very well relate with this. It can be hard when you or friends go in different directions. I felt the same way with my Metal/Rocker Friends from High School. It didn't matter if I didn't end up rich. But, I knew that I wanted more options than living in my parents basement with a dead end job or an SSI Case like some of my other Metal/Rocker Friends. I can very much relate with Lena when her Ex and her friends came to visit her at College. My Metal/Rocker Friends did similar things when I invited them to my Apartments in the Past. The Same with My Parties. It was hard because they either acted awkward or they would complain wondering why they were still stuck at their parents and couldn't get ahead. Some did wake up and change, while either others stayed stagnant, got worse, or even passed away. I am 42 Years Old and work as a Photographer/Graphic Designer. I also Teach and do Counseling too. I also admire Lena in that she still stayed true to liking Rap/Hip Hop while wanting to Achieve. The Same goes for me Liking Metal/Rock while wanting to Achieve as well. Yes, The Rap/Hip Hop and Metal/Rock Scenes can attract troubled characters or lost souls, but not everyone is like that. You don't have to feel as if you gotta be stuck hanging out on the corner, hanging out in a house, or in a bar while drinking, smoking, or doing drugs all the time as your only options in life. Just like Lena and her Boyfriend listen to Rap/Hip Hop, but still stay on track with School and Their Jobs. It's like me Going to Work, And staying Focused too. The Other Day I just got some more Ink or More Tattoos Done. I even was Listening to Some Really Heavy Metal on my Drive Home after my Tattoo Session. But, instead of going to the Bar, I was going home to be Domestic with Healthy Family/Friends.

Yes times have changed, and not people want city jobs because all of those things are now in the positive.
