Yes, Taka voices that character the entire time. I would have said something more witty, but I just couldn't come up with the perfect joke for it.
Kami literally translates to God, and there is actually a reason for that name. A long time ago, A Namekian (egg?) landed on Earth. Naturally gifted with strength and energy manipulation both due to his Namekian genetics and as he was a lucky naturally born Super Namekian, he eventually senses and made his way to the Lookout. There he met the previous Guardian of Earth and wished to take his place. The previous guardian denied him the chance, saying he had evil in his heart. Either naturally or through human interaction, this nameless Namekian was slightly corrupted with evil. So he meditated to overcome his evil part of his nature. Thanks to his magical powers, he eventually tried to force it out, and succeeded, splitting into 2 beings, one of Good and one of Evil. These 2 halves are intertwined, if one dies the other does too (and likewise, when Piccolo was wished back on Namek, Kami was revived as well). The Good half was now qualified to become the guardian of earth, and thus named himself God (Kami). The evil half ran off to the earth and named himself King Piccolo. He causes havoc but was too powerful to be killed. Roshi's Master Mutaito used an incredibly powerful move, the Evil Containment Wave, to seal Piccolo away, but due to his age and lack of Ki energy, it killed him.
Come Dragon ball, Piccolo is freed from his seal and attacks again. He and his minions even kill a few major characters like Krillin. Goku eventually confronts Piccolo, and as Piccolo uses a finishing move, Goku uses his remaining good arm to launch a Kamehameha into the ground, launching him at high speed into King Piccolos Body, going right through his chest. Piccolo is unable to regenerate from this at the time, concentrates his life essence and Ki to create an Egg in his throat (this is how Namekians reproduce) and spits the egg off into the distance. Thus Demon King Piccolo dies, and a new Namekian, Piccolo Junior, is born.
The whole dynamics of why Kami is a Dragon clan member who can use magic and make Dragon balls, while Piccolo is a warrior clan who can fight, yet also use magic but can't make dragon balls, is not well explained.
Yes he did try to hand the job as Guardian of Earth back in THE ORIGINAL DRAGON BALL.

In the beginning I wasn't so sure I enjoyed you talking over the show to explain things but we can clearly see Kirby needs a little bit of help from time to time 😅. Pretty sure somewhere in the source material, one of the first few wishes made on the dragon was a dog that wish to be king of the world.
If he also added stipulations of there being somebody to maintain his position, it makes sense that he is one of the only people that actually knows about Goku.

The introduction of You-Know-Who has always been one of those iconic moments in Dragon Ball canon. The original scene was hella creepy, but TFS' unique spin on it(having him gleefully singing while dragging the body of his soon to be victim) is equally as menacing! Curtis knocked it out of the park with his performance!
The creator commentary for DBZA has a moment that they wanted to have Korin staying at Bulma's place when the Androids killed the Z warriors. He would just be missing his hubbie.
I like to think the extended shoulders on that outfit in the beginning was inspired by the sayians arriving. Just a thought

All I'll say/type is YES he/it is voiced by Takahada. The same guy who voiced Alucard in Hellsing Ultimate Abridged. Also when I 1st saw this I thought Team Four Star somehow actually got either Dameon Clarke, or Travis Willingham 2 people who've voiced Imperfect Cell in the Funimation dub and video games, to voice him for them. 1 more thing, Dameon Clarke voiced all 3 forms of Cell in the Funimation dub Dragon Ball Z/GT.

Piccolo backstory 101.
A powerful Namekian (aka super Namekian) came to earth. He split himself into two sides, one good and one evil.
The good side became Kami. The evil side became King Piccolo. Goku killed King Piccolo, but as he died he spit out an egg.
From that egg Piccolo was born. He wasn't pure evil like his father and eventually learned to be good. Now he has fused back with Kami.

Interesting fact, the TFS voice for “Mr. Bugman” (Not spoiling for Kirby) is not that far off or almost exactly the same as the original show. Also can not wait to watch Kirby’s reaction to next movie, and watch the (in my opinion) best upcoming running gag in all the DBZA movies.
Yeah, Taka based his voice mostly on the original but added aspects of other characters (mostly from horror movies) to add an extra flare in some of his inflections.

So the whole piccolo learning to drive was a filler episodes because chi chi was tired of walking to town to get groceries and being chased by dinosaurs. So goku and piccolo had to start driving her.
And being the best episode in the series, it goes to show that filler can be done right.

Although I feel like the way Piccolo presented it here made that decision sound a bit less thought out than it actually was. Made it sound more like Kami was just trying to ditch the responsibility, rather than selecting Goku as a legitimate successor. But that's what DBZA does.

11:27 In the creator commentary Lani and Kaiser did, Kaiser talked about how annoying it was to try to include Mr. Popo in this setting over the past 3 episodes, as in the original DB, Popo is a kind, loving person with deep adoration and respect for Kami, so the prospect of losing him obviously left him distraught. Because Abridged Popo is such a sociopath, the idea of him being openly upset that Kami was going away just didn't fit his character.
Then apparently, at some point, Taka threw out the phrase "all these squares make a circle", and the idea to have Popo's expressions be from an acid trip kinda built up from there.
Something really neat they did in editing DBZA is that the audio for Nail is louder in one headset and Nail in the other which I always found as a neat tidbit
