    A couple of my guys renewed some damaged small bore instrumental copper on a big burner on the steelworks in Scunthorpe. I asked them to take pictures after they had finished it as there were sparks following us up. A few weeks later the engineer sent me pictures of the job all trashed by the guys who followed us up and he complained about the quality of work. I simply sent our photo of how my guys had left it and heard no more about it. Always take pictures of your work if you think this might happen. Glad we did or we would have been doing it again for free.

    Hi Tom, genuine question, is it OK regs wise to replace a stopcock with a ball valve? I much prefer the latter (less risk of failure, no flow restriction) but I thought there had to be a stopcock first? Great vid as always! Cheers.

    • @PlumbLikeTom
      @PlumbLikeTom  Год назад

      A lever valve is perfectly acceptable to use instead of a traditional stop tap, the new ones the water board use in the road are now quarter turn as well, I've had numerous inspections from the water authority and have never been picked up for using a lever valve, there is also nothing in the regs to say it has to be a stop tap, thanks for the support mate, it is greatly appreciated

    Hello mate, question I have a combi boiler, no tanks etc in loft. I wanna change all my try’s what’s best way? Thanks

    • @PlumbLikeTom
      @PlumbLikeTom  Год назад +1

      The upstairs ones should be quite easy, all you have to do on these is open a drain off downstairs, open the bleed points on the radiators and let them drain, turn the power off to the boiler first though. Depending on how the downstairs rads are piped you might find you need to drain each one individually. All low points on the heating should have a drain off point but sometimes these are either not there or don't work.
      A wet vac is handy especially if you have cream carpets, be prepared for black water to come out the bottom of the radiators. Always add the correct amount of inhibitor when filling back up, normally one bottle does 10 rads. If you have a towel radiator it's normally easiest to tip it in there. Fill the system back to 1bar and bleed all the rads, I start to bleed from the lowest point downstairs to help force the air out, if you find one radiator doesn't get hot, turn all the others off and just leave that one rad on for a few minutes, hope all goes well mate, any questions just ask

    Great video Tom, Crazy how diverse your work is. I'm possibly about to get my first van and go on my own to jobs for the first time (3rd year apprentice) Its only contract work so its not to bad but I wouldn't mind some tips if possible, I know its a bit of a weird and hard question to give advise on as you just need to give it a go but any would be great off anyone. Cheers

    • @PlumbLikeTom
      @PlumbLikeTom  Год назад

      I was given a van when I was 17 and thrown straight in at the deep end, it was tough but you do learn really fast, If I'm honest, looking back the first few months or possible longer were really difficult for me. It was like learning the job all over again.
      My number one tip would just be to concentrate on doing one job at a time and doing a good job. I used to rush too much trying to get everything done, spend time checking, if you are not happy with something sort it, generally it only comes back to bite, never leave a leak and just enjoy the journey.
      We all make mistakes, sometimes when you have less experience and are fairly new to the industry you can dwell on problems and they play on your mind, I mess up everyday, you just get to a point where you know how to get over problems more quickly, this only comes with experience though
