      There was no real way for him to learn anything much about their system, there was no foreign travel advice against going except some infection going around. No one has been convicted off unclear CCTV before. They had never told such a ridiculous story before, they made him say the US government sent him to take a poster, how stupid of a notion is that? It took this to happen for the world to know properly that you could be falsely accused.

    • @jenniferlloyd9574
      @jenniferlloyd9574 11 месяцев назад

      It's insane to me how we invaded and obliterated Germany for human rights violations, yet NK is allowed to commit heinous acts. Starving people there actually eat human flesh to survive while operations are sometimes performed without anesthesia. Rats devour the discarded body parts behind the hospitals. Also insane is Churchill telling British radio stations not to report on atrocities committed by the Soviet Red Army in Eastern Europe right before the Allies _handed_ Eastern Europe over to Stalin... If they were trying so hard to _save_ Europe from Germany, why did they hand half of it over to the communists?!?!!!

    I remember this story & it breaks my heart to this day. Such a tragedy. He was so sick when he was released & you knew he was going to pass away. It was so sad for his parents. Makes you realize how blessed we are to live in the USA & have the freedoms that we have here. You have a great friend in Eric who shared his advice with you about international travel. What he's talking about happened to a friend of mine who accidentally had something in a jeans pocket in her suitcase and she didnt realize it was there or that it would become such a huge problem. She was put in prison in Africa and wasn't told why for a few days. She loved to travel but once she got home she never traveled outside the US again. It changed her forever. Great vlog Jordon in honor of Otto & his family. 💙

      In the video you can’t see his face(besides a random still of him in literally different clothes) nor is the build of the guy really even that similar to Otto’s. Adding the fact that he was supposed to be hammered and in the video the guy is very carefully taking the poster and setting it down. I read somewhere that some other people on the tour say that they were out celebrating new years when this should have happened. And his roommate strongly opposes the thought that Otto would have done something like this. All of this combined with a clearly scripted apology painted towards American slander and the fact that he wasn’t even worried when he was taken away… it really isn’t difficult to see what was really going on

    Such a tragic crime against this young man, broke my heart. Thank you for covering his story, Jordan. RIP Otto. To any young people who might not understand how important democracy is, this is how important it is. We take it for granted in our free countries. In dictatorships and totalitarian governments like North Korea you can have this happen to you for touching a poster. Although don't get me wrong, they don't know if he even wound up on the wrong hotel floor or touched a poster at all, probably didn't. He was there with an organized group and was just enjoying the trip. But even if he had it's obviously no excuse for what happened to him. Don't go to dangerous countries if you can avoid it.

      I do not understand why anyone visits North Korea. It's a vicious oppressive police state. Visters never experience the real culture or meet its people. They go on a guided tour. Basically a carefully choreographed play that is put on to fool outsiders. The money that tourists spend there doesn't help the citizens. It goes directly to the dictator.

    If you know this story in its entirety he DID NOT steal the poster you can see the video the silhouette is literally unrecognisable and isn’t even the same build, he was then coerced on to saying he did it, which considering there were cameras outside his room he’d entered to sleep and he never came out of it, this is North Korea for you. Also his brain injury that led to his death was cause by lack of oxygen to his brain for around 20 minutes in other words no one helped and this led to massive brain injury. No ones quite sure how he came to be in this position but seeing as its a North Korean prison it’s not hard to imagine.

Then if you listen to the press conference, the full version (search on here: Otto Warmbier press conference full and it comes up) he says "I packed my shoes, the best for sneaking" which is not really something an American would say - that statement was written for him by someone who knows English but it's not their first language - a North Korean.

    PS: you can get botulism from canned food and homemade preserved foods. One of the reasons you should never buy homemade jams or marmalades or pickles, etc. from foodies. Only buy preserved food that went through industrial canning processes or from gastronomy professionals.
    Botulism causes paralysis and death. It can be cured if it's treated urgently.
