  • Freehand root pass, TIG welding for beginners. There are numerous techniques by which TIG Welding can be carried out. If case the circumstance requires you to go ahead with the Freehand technique, you should be very familiar with it, and skilled if you want to be successful in TIG welding, more so, if you happen to be holding a well-paid job in the welding industry. The Freehand strategy can be utilized when welding other items other than piping whereas Walking the Cup technique is tailored particularly in the welding of pipes.

    Another excellent video, thanks for all the effort. 🙏
    I asked previously if it is possible to zoom out, to see your hand position and how you feed the rod. You nail it exactly around the 8th minute. 🔨 🔥🔥🔥
    There are many Freehand Root videos on Tube, most of those speed up during the process and astonishing end results. Maybe even cheated and done on the positioner? 🤔😃
    Those videos frankly confused me more instead.
    I find your videos better, always on point and VERY helpful. Again thanks for sharing.

    ya make it look SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO easy... been watching your videos to get the freehand technique down. I was taught laywire... been out of it a lil while and now, 50% of the time, the bottom is flat as a pancake... By code it is acceptable, However, i want more reinforcement. last thing i want is suck back on the hot pass. just got tig fingers to help as well. so now ill be doing 5/32 gap with 1/8 wire. had a bunch of coupons tqcked up with 1/8 gap and tried 3/32 wire... gotta long way to go... lol shaky.

    I freehand all the time. i don't know how to walk the cup. probably due to lack of piping in the shop. I keep the torch pointing towards the center of the pipe. I have around 1/8" gap and 3/32 rod and tungsten. I use a thumb control rather than a foot pedal. I keep my rod 1/2 way in and out. anything I could change?

    • @X3MTIG

    I’ve noticed all the ‘crust’ in the root inside… No way to add a back purge of gas? The root looks good but I wonder why there’s no back purge which will make that root last longer and not corrode so soon… Any reason? Thanks, great videos by the way.

    Pozdrav jos jednom! Znam da cu od tebe dobiti valjan odgovor pa se opet vracam tebi.Trenutno pohadjam tig obuku i instruktor insistira da radim koren sa 3mm zicom free hand,kod proslog instruktora sam koristio zicu 2.4 i savladao je uz "walking".Sad mi problem malo da se naviknem na 3 mm zicu free hand.Kakva je situacija na terenu sto se tice korena i izbora zice,radi li se igde sa 3mm?

    • @X3MTIG
      @X3MTIG  Год назад +1

      Pozdrav, instruktor je u pravu, jako bitno je znat freehand, jer na terenu neces bas puno radit walking the cup. 3 mm zica se puno upotrebljava, a pogotovo na crnim cijevima, ja osobno koristim tu zicu u 99% zavara, a 2.4 mm uglavnom za inox. Tako da slusaj instruktora jer ocito zna sta radi.
