Dear fragrance friends all around the world, I am gratified by the outpouring of compliments, appreciation, and just plain love. We all share the same passion, and I am happy that I was able to introduce you in this first video to my world, of which you are now part. I cannot express to you how much your comments mean to me. David, thank you so much for participating in this vlog. I hope to see more of you talk about Middle Eastern fragrances. They are very underrated in the West. The detail and depth of you knowledge about Amouge is very entertaining. I wish we can find more of this detail in the future. This is the iind if info I go bananas over. Cheers

This is certainly one of the most authentic fragrance related videos I've watched. 30 minutes has never felt so inadequate. Please follow up with Mr. Ball on those subsequent sessions :-) Jubilation XXV is my favorite Amouage and Mr. Ball seemed to have wanted to say something about it at 18:34 but the conversation took a different tangent!

Mr. Ball, you have enlightened us about Amouage and the beginnings of our love of fragrance on this channel. Redolessence, the subscribers take our hats of to you for educating us about this man and learning more about the Middle East and the fine art of fragrance. Please bring him back soon. Mr. Ball is a treasure. His stories are like fine jewels. His book is intriguing. A movie perhaps?

Learning about the art of fragrance has been a journey and then some. I try not to blind-buy, having made one or two expensive mistakes. But I recently took the plunge on Amouage's Jubilation XXV, after watching so many glowing reviews. On receiving it I was surprised to discover that I could not detect the opening fruit notes so many describe, let alone something as specific as blackberries, which grow in my yard. This may be due to the 'vintage' effect that David describes so well. What I get on my skin is a pronounced smokey incense, and to my nose Jubilation XXV is nearly indistinguishable from Initio's Oud For Greatness. This is far from a bad thing however. I am extremely pleased with my purchase. Jubilation XXV is nuanced, complex, sublimely blended, mysterious and utterly captivating. Women are not alone in wanting to be viewed as mysterious after all. This is perfumery as it's meant to be. I look forward to familiarizing myself with other offerings from the House. I would be most interested to read David's book, as opportunities to learn from wellsprings of olfactory knowledge are scarce on Vancouver Island.

Wow I never saw this video of yours. I was trying to learn more about Amouage and this old gem popped up. What a captivating chat! As a wine lover and collector who has fallen into the niche frag rabbit hole, I found the batch info incredibly interesting. It makes such sense but that never occurred to me. The history, perfume making, the book.... all so interesting. Thank you so much for the kitchen table chat!

Mr. Ball, your knowledge is extensive and vast. Teaching in the Middle East for two years myself, I too was overwhelmed by the amount of perfume there. There is a love affair that exists with fragrance there that is mystical and cleansing. I would love to learn more from your portfolio of information. As well as your intriguing experience. Please, please come back. I have a new respect for Amouage and fragrance from this. Thank you. And thank you Redolessence.

You can always check out Redolessence's review. Imo, It isn't very versatile but when it works, it's incredible, I think it shares that trait with a few others also. The one thing I noticed the most when I first tried it was, it doesnt really smell similar to anything else I know of, It looks like a strange note composition, but it just works somehow. I think alot of oud fragrances can be polarizing, but Jubilation has this soft and warm presentation while still being able to reach. It's one I would recommend trying before buying though, it takes awhile to grow on some people, myself included.

Nice dive into Amouage! Your guys knowledge is refreshing, not just the usual review or fragrance video. Very interested in this house. There's something about the name, the design, the scent names that's alluring. Haven't smelled any of them, which would you recommend as an entry scent for them?

    • @Redolessence

      I would recommend Reflection Man!

You cannot guarantee the same smell, because even the produce of natural ingredients differs by the year. This is due to soil, irrigation, climate etc, and exactly why a pineapple coming out of the same farm may not taste the same every season. You can however maintain the quality with synthetics which are mostly compound based. You should take a tour of South Mumbai in India where you would have thousands of wholesalers, retailers selling pure perfume oils from different ingredients. You may not find ambroxan or certain other rare components but may be a good exposure to frag lovers.
