For those that read the instruction manual: Filter can be left on to pick up small amounts of water, remove if picking up large amounts of water. When the liquid in the drum reaches a predetermined level, the built in internal float mechanism will rise automatically to cut off airflow. You will know that the float has risen because Vac airflow ceases and the motor noise will become higher in pitch, due to increased motor speed. When this happens, turn off the Vac, unplug the power cord, and empty the drum. To clean the drum after normal dry operation use warm water and mild soap. If after picking up waste water disinfect drum with 1 teaspoon of bleach and 1 gallon of water, move around contents and cover all sides and let sit for 20min. then rinse thouroughly. If waste water has any purchase seperately and use the recommended wet debris specific foam filter to protect your motor from damage.
Thank you so much! My husband is out of state, the kids and I came home to very hot house. I made it to Home Depot 10 minutes to closing time🫣 Thank you Jesus the air is back on.
You saved my life the other night. A toilet in my master bathroom cracked and I couldn’t figure out how to get my shop vac to suck up water without spraying it all over the exit vent. Thank you so much. Floors still need to be replaced but it would’ve been a lot worse if I would’ve let the water sit there for hours more!
Yes, you don’t wanna have the filter on it they have a special cover. It’s like foam that usually comes with the vacuum that you can put over that area but if you leave the filter on we’ll get soaking wet.
There’s only one thing I need to add make sure the motor and the inside of it is completely dry before attaching the dry vac filter. Otherwise it’ll get all nasty and moldy inside. You have to let it air dry.
Btw..i took a peek at your other how2s..ty..im old & dont trust myself much..so i have 2 remind myself..good stuff..new tech makes me feel i have reached my level of ineptitude. Glad u post.
What about the filter on the backside of the shop vac? My Rigid has hose adapters on both sides of it. One side for blowing air and other side for vacuuming. So the opposite side always has a filter on it. What should I do with that?
Well, the side with the exhaust probably is where you have your filter on this one. The filter is in the center and if you’re pulling in water, it’ll get soaking wet. They have the special type of cover that goes over but I didn’t have one when I made the video.
I use the size 1 and 1/0 Mustad hooks to freeline for snook ruclips.net/user/postUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 and they have been fantastic. The points are super sharp, and the hook is small enough to blend with my baitfish, yet large enough to land fish 30" or more. I also use these hooks when I'm pier or surf fishing with my kids. They tend to catch tons of smaller snapper, whiting, and catfish, and we get far fewer gut hooks with these Mustad in-lines, which means more of them survive after release. I was actually using these hooks when I caught my friend too, but I think that had more to do with the bait I was using ;-)
Is this the same for any shop vac? Honestly I never bought a shop vac in my life until now. I purchased the Ridgid HD1400 shop vac and was wondering when doing wet I am supposed to remove the filter and dry I keep it on? What about if your doing something that is wet an dry or slightly wet an dry?
It should come with like a foamy thing that you put around that centerpiece. Unfortunately I lost mine so I went ahead and just did it without it and of course I pulled out the paper filter.
hello what would you recommend to vacuum Pool Filter Sand from Tank ? Should I remove filter to be on "Wet Mode" ? Because, sand will we wet. Thank you
That is something I have never encountered and I’m not quite sure what the best way to do. It would be depending on how big your tank is I’m assuming yours is fairly large and you can’t tip it on the side to pour it out. I’m not sure what the best solution would be good luck. Thanks for watching.
Do you need to ground the Rigid vacuums with an adapter? I Heard that wet/dry vacuums have to be grounded/plugged into a grounded outlet and i can't tell if my outlets are grounded or not.
@@TomLeeman i used mine with the filter on and it ruined it even after the filter was dry it wouldnt work properly idk why. If i took the filter off it worked normally
When you purchase the fact it comes with this blue filter that goes around that stack in the center for wet backing but I lost mine good luck thanks for watching
Hi Tom. Thanks for the video. I decided to look on RUclips to see if there was a video with someone using this to pick up water. Do you use that feature often? When reading reviews on Amazon some people mention that the water is coming out when picking up water. Did you notice this when picking up water? I appreciate your help. Thanks!
I would recommend buying a half hp submersible water pump and using a swimming pool hose to do that I don’t believe this back could handle that thanks for watching
It worked. I just cleaned up some loose oil/antifreeze from a oil spill in the crevice of my motor. Also sucks up the debri so it wont fall down into the valve openings.
I had oil spilled in the trunk of my 1989 prelude and I cleaned it up and drained it into a gallon jug. No shop vac used but it took 6 hourd because oil is sticky. Dawn dish soap helps
Without the foam, any filth in the water can get up against the blower intake and even inside the motor. Not much risk from that fairly clean water from a dishwasher.
Would the shop vac get damaged if I vacuum Oil and Coolant? Or is water the only thing it could suck in? If anybody can help pls, I can't move my car till then or gonna have to go old school and siphon it out.
I’m not sure about other types of liquids you could probably check their website and see what it says I wouldn’t try to vacuum up anything this flammable though that might not be a good idea good luck thanks for watching
I recommend not I have a shopvac and I've done that to it several times and what actually happens is that foam bubbles go into the motor and spit water out the exhaust and then my motor started sounding funny
Yes. Just make sure to keep watch of water cause it's a 4 gallon vac. Dump it at close to full then vacuum some more. Repeat till done. Remember to remove filter. They do have a wet vac filter but you done need it long as you stay aware of water level.

Maybe somebody else mentioned it. For completeness, after rinsing out the orange bucket with water, why not rinse out the hose as well.
Yes good idea in the hose to
I didn't mention it, but I also noticed it.
Great tutorial.

So I don’t have to buy the water filter they sell just take the fine dust one off?
I would use the water filter

@@TomLeeman Ok no worry, I asked because every guy I saw on video that were changing their pool filter sand used exactly a Shop Vac like this

3 prongs
@@TomLeeman does my outlet need to be 3 prongs or the plug in the vacuum? The one I saw from rigid the plug has 2 prongs

Im guessing if you run it with the filter it just ruins your filter?

It worlks great but will only take in a couple gallons and then it starts spitting it out so you have to drain it if your doing a big spill
So glad it's so simple 👍 I'm changing water in bottom of my veggie grow tower. This is way faster than my syphon!
Good luck!
lifesaver!!

Glad that I could help good luck with your vacuum and thanks for watching
Tyvm. I lost 2 fake nails & had to check the drain b4 i have to call a plumber..it also remover hair. 😁💋
You are welcome I hope you found your nails
can i use it with a back hose like a pump for continuous water flow for a flooded basement?
I would recommend buying a half hp submersible water pump and using a swimming pool hose to do that I don’t believe this back could handle that thanks for watching
No, because there is a float inside that plugs the fan if the tanks gets full. It can handle a little mist but not pure water.
@@iverburl Yeh i finally figured it out. I just have to fill it up and dump it each time.
Do I need to put on a foam sleeve?

Im using mine for some oil clean up. But im gonna put some water in it first to so it wont be messy inside of it.

Why not putting a trash bag inside instead? A black contractor trash bag

There's actually a foam filter you're supposed to use with water.
I lost mine
It's says in the manual you can take the filter out an use it for water. Probably best to just get the filter though.
Without the foam, any filth in the water can get up against the blower intake and even inside the motor. Not much risk from that fairly clean water from a dishwasher.
