I see why I never would make it is a tech. I just don't have the patience you have sir. You really know your motorcycles. Please keep us posted on the outcome with the Indian Challenger. I have a "Vested" interest. thank you
Please take care both of you guys, and you have your animals to care for also. We understand the pressures on you, many thanks for all your experience and knowledge. Sincere thoughts. Joe.
Good Morning Kelly and Shawn, Happy Hump Day 😊 The Tech Talk in this video was very interesting. Safeway is usually on the ball for Prescriptions. I get my 7 for my Heart Autofilled, except last month I was in the hospital. I worked for them here in Canada for 35 years. I started when I was 15. I got sick and went on disability.
It never dawned on me about the gas tank. I will now make sure that my fuel tank is NOT full when I take the bikes in for service. Anything that I can do to make the technicians life a little easier I will try to do. I was a service manager for cars many years ago, so I try to give the symptom when I have a problem and NOT try to diagnose the problem (i.e. "noise on acceleration", not "engine ping") since MY diagnosis will probably be wrong and I have sent the tech down the wrong rabbit hole.
Thanks for such a great tech demo. Very interesting. I like to know what built up all that carbon. Is that because fuel is injected directly into the cylinder? I'm not sure where I saw this but there is a product that you can add every so many miles to keep the valves clean. I think it's called CCR or CRC valve cleaner. Don't know if it works there are so many products they sell. Can't wait until you tell us what BMW said.
Shawn, the beginning of your video showing the frost and sky view is so beautiful. Wish there was a way to get a copy of that scene. It is picture perfect. Would make a very nice Christmas card. Tell Kelly we’re hoping she gets her condition under control. Take care.
It’ll be interesting to hear what caused that carbon build up. Did the guy not follow the BMW service schedule? Maybe he failed to have it serviced at a BMW service centre? Or perhaps he used non-OEM service items? Anyway, it was good to see that BMW’s special tool for releasing those reusable clamps is so well designed for the space available.
Very interesting video, I got to hand it to you I would not want your job for nothing. I enjoy being a garage mechanic and I have actually bought all the parts and put together my own chopper. But that was basic compared to all the intricate details of modern motorcycles.😎👍🏻
Thanks for the detailed explanation on the S1000R, my guess is you might be pulling the engine apart to clean the deposits off of the valves! I wonder what kind of fuel the owner is using? I hope Kelly’s bad experience with that pharmacy is just one time thing! See you tomorrow!👍
how are you able to reach the right side cylinder head bolts near the frame without removing the engine? I cant get any torx wrench in between the bolt and the frame!
Boy they really cram a lot of stuff in a small space on those bikes! How did BMW never hire you as an Instructor in their maintenance department? You're the epitome of a Gold Star Master Technician! I hope you slept better than I did last night. Happy Hump Day! Peace and love.
There are no special tools required for air filter replacement. There are plenty of BMW Special Tools and Diagnostic Software used for different service and repair items, but there's always workarounds to hack your way through... Generally, folks that can afford a BMW can also afford to have them professionally maintained by certified technicians that have invested in the insane amount of training required. These are not user friendly bikes to maintain long term at BMW requirements..! The basic stuff is like any other high-end sport bike though. Thanks Daniel!!
He needs to blast it over 9000 rpm get the secondary injectors to clean up the valves, run some top end cleaner through the tank. I think bmw have a puma on it. Pain in the ass.
Hello, Got to ask your opinion on this..you have said alot about aftermarket lighting on your spyder bus system can cause problems..I am confused if I should get the halo skid plate with plug in lights with turn signals..don't want to cause any malfunction but want to protect my under body and front nose. Please give me your opinions just asking. Thanks
Awww crap....I put a "washable" filter in my bike a couple years back, never even thought it would be harmful. I guess it's not too late to go back to oem. But damage could already be done huh?
This is why I have office hands. I cannot spend hours dismantling an engine to perform a 5 min job. Just sayin'. If you retire?!&%#!!! Stay safe. Temp here this morning, 31 degrees. Brrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!
Hi man, I have a s1000r 2018 with cooling problems, the issue is when it’s on idle without moving it hit 100º the an the fan entry but they don’t get off and the temperature stay on 99-100º the fan gets off an de temperature gets dow until I start riding and when I hit a red light again the same problem
@@TheSmoaksVlogs thanks i did find something from a shop that sells a lot of BMW parts for $14 so be good to compare it to see if I'm getting right tool

This very thing and/or service items like this have ran me away from BMW. And if you think these motors are a nightmare go look at the same procedure on a K1600. It borders on brain surgery.

Thank-you for a great write up and explanation on the S1k. I know who I’m bringing my bike to. It would be a great trip South to meet you!
Oh ya love the tech vlogs...awesome to see what’s involved in a service, wow👍

Well amid all that safeway frustration, thank-you for the service video/tech-talk. I really enjoyed that! Keep up the good work.

That customer has put miles on that S1000R. Great Tech Talk, Smoak!
I love the tech stuff in the videos. If that's the way Shawn does it that's what my Spyder gets lol I do most all my own service
Those classes you attend are paying dividends. Great info and fun to watch.
Love that Tech Talk!!! Good stuff Shawn. Get some rest. :)

Just trying to figure out finger follower valve trains. How much does this service cost? 37k miles nice!
It takes a special tool to change the air filter? Also do you know if there is anything proprietary as far as maintenance for this bike?thanks 🤔

Hi, do you have any links to the reusable clamp removal tool
I'll see who makes the pliers and see where they might be purchased from. Our's came from BMW as a mandatory special tool...
