Have to give you credit. As a skilled Dig Dug player (Arcade high - 2.4 Million - round 176) I am impressed at your skill at going for the rock drops and getting ALL the monsters with one rock before round 8.I wait until round 12 (when the boards start to cycle) to go for the massive 10000 point plus rock drops. I use a mix of rock drops (getting 2-3 enemies on average) and shooting during the first 11 boards.

Once I got into the high 30s I never could go much further. I was too young when this came out to understand some of the strategies you use in this. I was able to get most of the guys to die in the bottom layer, but I never was big on getting the bonus fruits in arcade games. which is a cardinal sin for high scores. Jsut trying to stay alive. I think the highest level I ever got to was maybe 39 or 40. Not sure I ever got the 4th large flower (Did on Atari console, but not the arcade). Of course I was still way better than most people who were a lot older than me. Playing this game at like 9-10 years old getting in the 30s was pretty sweet. :D
I made it to some high levels, but holy shit! That's some mad, mad, MAD use of rocks. I used them, but not nearly to that level of finesse, kudos!

in the early 80's i played this game every chance i got.(Probably contributed to my divorce). "rolled" the machine over on my first life routinely. if i didnt have more than a couple hours i would stop at 999,990....on my first life. it was all patterns like pac man and such. those were the days. 54 now and my memory isnt as good but i would love to play again. a good freind of mine owned an arcade so we could play all the time for free. i remember the game "track and field". i built a small motor device with a cam and a plunger and when i put it on the button that you had to hit to run and jump, the guy was jumping like 60 feet. it was freaking hilarious. we were all stoned back then which made it even funnier. i miss those days
LMAO @ the track and field game. I don't remember playing that in the arcade, but do you remember the one they had ton the NES that had that plastic pad you were supposed to run on? Everyone just hit the foot buttons with the tips of their fingers to run because if you didn't you'd lose by like a mile. God tat game was awful xD
Dig Dug was absolutely my favorite growing up, but I was way too young during this arcade era to seriously be high score player. I wasn't even 10 yet when this game came out. Think I was like 6-7. This and Ms. Pac Man, Centipede, Asteroids, Donkey Kong (really never liked any of the ones after the first one). Then all these gmaes came out on the Atari, and looked awful. DD and DK looked OK I guess, PAc Man was embarrassing. xD
+ifixcopiers I miss those days too but with MAME, emulators, the rise of retro bar-arcades, and X Box live arcade we can play Dig Dug just like back in the day. As a 13 year old kid back in 1982 - I thought that 50,000 was a good score. Now I know about patterns and strategy and anything under a million (or an hour if playing on an arcade machine) is a crappy game.
I get way more enjoyment out of this than I should...

Those rocks make hilarious instant enemy crushers, but they can also squish the player if they don't watch out. I know that from personal experience.

I suspect he is playing this on a computer. It's possible to replicate the exact instructions from these old arcade game chips, and in doing so you can play the game on a computer EXACTLY as if you were playing it on an actual video arcade game.

DAMM!!! Why did you have to get killed just short of 100,00 points? I've never seen a machine roll over to that and wanted to see if it would do anything special to commemorate reaching that goal. Yeah it was a hack for the atari 2600, but it scared the shit out of me...almost as much as the creepy screen you get when trying to play Super Mario World when its "saving battery got drained".
If there is no video showing it on youtube, well, its basically just a creepy sound (kinda like the playstation 1) would play while a black background with a weird message would pop up.
Not what to expect when popping in Super Mario World.
Actually, you where encouraged into acquiring a additional console and a additional copy of the same game in order to play both games at once, thus doubling the original score, at that time, that was considered the "true world record".
I believe the highest score ever was a guy playing on eight consoles at once, of course this guy had twenty hands and my comment is total bullshit.

My brother Eric has a score of 3.3 MILLION making it 17 boards (round 239) shy of the kill screen at round 256.I believe the WR holder is Ken House who beat the former WR holder Donald Haze who had a score in the 4.6 million range.
