How to Fix Rear Sag on a Tacoma

- In this video, we show you guys how we fix the back end of a Tacoma that is sitting lower than the front. The reason for this fix is to have the rear higher than the front so that when the bed is loaded with gear it won't sag even more.
The Tacoma is lifted in the rear by a leaf pack but not all leaf packs are the same. We recommend looking at their weight rating when choosing. Deaver is a brand that has been around for centuries so we really like using their products. We also like using Icon's RXT leaf pack as it is adjustable.

Wow! That truck looks happy at the end!
I’m suffer from rear sag as well but straight leg deadlifts and hip thrusts are helping 🤪

If you’re a chic throw in some lunges for the boys
😂
The before and after is amazing.
I recommend daystar airbag cradles and tanks. The first thing I did was install my ARB onboard air compressor, then airbags, but I had to put on daystar cradles on to increase wheel travel, and keep the bags from ripping. I had them hooked up to the compressor and could adjust pressure inside the truck but could never find the slow air leak, so the fittings are on the license plate holes on the bottom 2 holes. I run 15 psi with nothing in it. Do you get any bounce with the bags? I added adapters to go from 1/4 lines to 1/2” lines and back to 1/4” at 4’ long and lay on top the spare tire, they are like a small tank. I have a Harley road king with a police air ride seat, and it has a tank. With out the tank it is like a spring, and would stand you up and try to throw you over the handlebars. They don’t take much air to fill. With the tank, it is very smooth and plush, the air has a place to go. The airbags and cradles added over an inch of lift with no air, with 15 psi at 2” lift on stock springs. I had this setup for nearly 4 years, any questions.
1’’ of lift with no air, how can this be possible?
The front looks more lifted as well. Anyone else notice that? At 7:16
Awesome video! I'm definitely needing to put some stage 3 deavers on my truck!
Yes the brake lines are available on their website
I tow a travel trailer with my '18 Tacoma double cab, long bed. With about 350# tongue weight, and an additional couple of hundred pounds in the bed (generator, fire wood, etc.). I went with blue Sumosprings. I had Helwig air bags on a Tundra, for towing a 28' TT, but found that they often needed the air adjusted, the Sumo's, on the other hand have been maintenance and trouble free. They have not affected the ride while not towing, and got rid of any sag or squat while towing...
got more from your comment than this entire video
Any squeak with the daakar’s ?
That rake looks nice ngl lol
What are the honey cone shape around the wheel weld?
Great job that truck looks good
How much for that
Good video. Would be good to have a recommendation from you on a stock truck they is running loaded with bed rack and 500 pounds full time. I have airbags on my Ram used to haul a two car hauler gooseneck. They do the job but when inflated with a loaded trailer the ride is HARSH. I don’t like using them unless fully loaded for that reason.
I am considering doing the Deaver stage 3 leaf pack on my stock Gen 2 Tacoma. Did you do a lift on the front of your Tacoma? If so, how much did you lift the front to get the correct balance? TIA.
Great video👍🏻
I have a 21 trd pro that I want to add that same leaf pack to. Will it work with the stock fix suspension or do I need to add anything else?
Thanks!
What is the air bag set up?
What air bags did you use? (I didn't see in the description or in the video)
I do some towing as well, but I also off road. I considered bags but am concerned about them interfering with wheel travel when needing to articulate. Any thoughts on this?
Looks like they are using Daystar air bag cradles - which solves that problem. I have use them with my Firestone air bag kit - works great.
Daystar air bag cradles
What the others have mentioned. The cradle allows the bags to free travel during down travel
Is it 3 inch in front and 1.5 rear
Looks great!
What brand of airbags did you install?
What brand of braided break lines did you install?
Thanks!
Firestone is pretty much your option for bags.
What Jtwizzle said, Firestone is pretty much the only option. We have the air bags and braided lines at Runnin4Tacos.com
Recently got a lift done on my Tacoma and notice the leaf are now flat. the lift was with a block, is this a bad lift option? And, can I add the Deaver leaf with the block to try to fix the current flatten leaf?
I have a 2017 Tacoma with a 6 inch vertex lift and rear sags. Will airlift bags help level it out ?
Looks awesome. Great vid
What did you do about reaming the headlights. Edit "Fixing Rear Sag" = elevating the rear thereby lowering the headlights beams. Good for spotting groundhogs at night. How did you re-aim the headlight beams to get then back to where they are supposed to be after raising the back of the truck?
Do you mean adjusting so it doesn't shine in people's faces?
The headlight has an adjustment dial on them.
I just added the sumosprings in my 3rd gen Tacoma plus I added Hellwig leaf to my stock suspension. it worked out good no more sagging my truck is much stiffer on the road easier to control the downside is that it's a little bit more bumpy to but it's not a big deal
What fender liners are those and where do you get them????
Those are ARK splash guards.
runnin4tacos.com/products/ark-full-coverage-toyota-tacoma-splash-guards?_pos=3&_sid=12caa1ae3&_ss=r
What kind of wheel well/fender well liners are those (hexagonal pattern front and rear?)
Mammoth Guards
Can you run 5160 shocks with 3" deaver springs?
I got the HD Dakar on my 2015. Started sagging shortly after a year with only my topper on and a tool box. Maybe a total of 200 pounds. Disappointing to see them give out. Worst of all the damn squeaking is a curse
I went out and looked at my 2019 TRD PRO TUNDRA and my leaf pack is strait noticed the sag after I added a A.R.E insulated cap/shell. what pack would you recommend ?
Same here it’s bumming me out!!
I would do the Deaver for the Tundra, there's two options on Runnin4Tacos.com. The heavier duty one will work better
What fender liners are those?
I am also pondering that...
Same here!
Same here!
Me too, first thing I noticed lol.
Same, they look interesting
Can the same bushing from the Dakar leaf be used with the Deaver? Or would you have to buy new bushings?
I don't think they use the same bushings
Looks great 👍🏻
I had a '84 4Runner. A 135 pound generator caused sag when transporting. I changed air adjustable shocks with a single fitting. If I recall correctly, adjusting the ride height on that threw the alignment off. Does adjusting the ride height with this setup effect the alignment?
Do a zuk mod on that.
Not in the rear because it's a solid axel rear end.
what the wheel specs on that? looking to get rid of my stock silver ones is reason why i ask? but thats a good thing to do to mine as well.
Not sure, his name is Ryan Medina on here so you might be able to ask him
If I were to just replace my leaf springs, would I need new ubolts and bushings?
Always gotta replace the u-bolt, it's meant to only be fully torqued once
What i want to know is will the ride feel stiff and bouncy if all the weight comes out even the camper
It rides great with the weight, it's what these leaf packs are for.
Hope you guys can fit me in this week to get my sag fixed
We can try, give our team a call
Where are you buy those leaf springs from? I’m can’t find any online..
Have you been on Runnin4Tacos.com? We have everything there
Currently dealing with this same issue... pretty F'n stupid that a Deaver leaf pack is so damn expensive. Literally no mechanics, no moving parts, just layered metal pieces... over $1,100... not counting install.
Agreed but it is what it is
Are the extended break lines on the website?
Yessir
Wouldnt air bags along with the dakars have done the same thing? Just add another 5-10psi to the bags and you have the same thing, basically. Kinda overkill I think.
Yes it would have but he didn't want to reply on air bags to support the weight of the truck 100% of the time. The bags are there for when he tows a trailer
That’s a dope video 🤙
How much is that air bag?can i buy it online?
Firestone Air Bags
What tire rack is that system??
They don't show a great shot of it, but I think it is the Wilco Tiregate. Its a hitch mounted tire mount that looks pretty much the same as that.
Rigd Ultra swing!!! Replaced the wilco, the wilco rattled so stepped it up.
R4T has them in stock!
Can you are someone recommend a good shop in CA, Bay area. Picked up a 2021 trd pro and need some help.
Not sure in California unfortunately
Are those sumo springs?
No sir
Who makes that hard top?
ARE
Z series A.R.E lockable rear window with key fob.
How much a job like this cost $?
It depends what state you're in. It would cost about $240 in Colorado to swap out leaf packs
Nice Video! The air bags are new to me ... what is the brand & are they only for towing?
They are Firestone and yes they are mainly for towing to prevent sag
why not add a coil spring just above the rear leaf for each side?
whats causing it? a shit of weight? never really understood buying a truck, then turning it into a SUV in a time period were 4 runners exist.
A lot of weight
@@Runnin4Tacos I don't think a taco is made for a lot of weight to carry or tow. It's a glorified soccer moms SUV
It's called air bags
1985 Hilux......Made entirely in Japan. Awesome. Gen 1 made in USA quality degrades. Gen 2 made in USA just another American truck. I'll pay the F-ing import tax. American Made Tacomas are shit. I won't be getting another Tacoma because from what I've heard, Gen 3 is even worse than Gen 2.
