I accidentally became a RUclips creator in October of 2019 when I posted the queen size version of this floating bed frame. That video really took off much more so than I ever could have anticipated so I kept making videos. This king size was after I had been producing videos for quite a little while and I kind of had an idea of how I wanted to present the items I was making. I'm certain you can see the evolution of my video editing if you watch from oldest to newest. Now I'm here! I try to be quick, funny, useful, and informative in a not over produced video to get the point across quickly but effectively. No one has time these days to watch a ~15-20 minute video. We want to be able to see how to do this thing that I want to pretty quickly and be able to ask the creator questions if I need to. That's what we do here on this channel...run 100% by me. Was looking for a floating king frame for weeks. Decided to build instead. Cost me 140$, most frames were going for 700+. Built in 3 hours. Awesome video, very easy and to the point. From Canada !!

Thanks, just finished making one. Used your exact measurements, perfect. I wish the quality of my lumber was better; paid a lot for twisty lumber. But it still came out great. I don't use a box spring, so I finished the top with 1/2 inch plywood. Thanks again

You shouldn’t use plywood because mattress’s need to breathe just add extra boards in between for support.
@Jarret Gorsh Hi Jarret, thanks for stopping by and contributing here. This is the first time I’ve seen this concern brought up so I took the time to research it myself. While there is some truth to your statement, I think I would only really be worried about this if I lived in a basement or an *extremely* humid environment. By now, many dozens of people from several different countries have built this bed frame with plywood and I hope at least one of them would have contacted me to let me know if this is actually a problem. There are advantages and disadvantages both to using plywood or a box spring. These floating bed frame videos on my channel give you guys a good idea of where to start building your own bed frame. I just made this bed today and it is an awesome design! I used 2 x 10 for the base and 2 x 6 for the up frame I also topped it with 1/2" primed ply for the top. Thank you very for this video and design I love the bed!! Bought the lumber yesterday and cut and built it all today. This thing is solid as a rock! God bless you my friend! I spent about $128 for the lumber and then another $122 for 2 4 x 8 sheets of ply wood for the top. WELL worth the money!

Just made your king size floating bed frame with my father in law, we had a ton of fun making it, kept things simple, and for reference I'm 230 pounds and can walk around the outside frame of this build without flipping or breaking the bed. Solid build.

Just watched this here from NZ, I've been looking at making a floating bed and saw your Queen one. I didn't really want the wood visible, so was happy to see how you had wrapped your Queen version as I was thinking of ways to make it look nicer, that method I think will be perfect.

@@allisonlouthen4154 no, the center piece or smaller square in the middle he builds is what supports the the rest of the frame and mattress.

How much did it cost for materials of you don't mind me asking?
@liagiba liagiba Hi…is it Abigail…? 👋 I don’t mind you asking at all. I’m in Houston, Texas and I built this at the height of the pandemic in July of 2021 when materials were pretty expensive. This king size frame and the headboard(see separate video posted on my channel) was about $350-$400 if I remember correctly. Just finished my king size floating bed thanks to you and this video. I am from Bermuda (most expensive place in the world to live at the moment) the lumber and all the materials came out to over 650$ just to put things into perspective. Hope it’s cheaper where everyone else is from lol

This build cost me about $250 in the summer of 2021, at a time when lumber was very expensive here in the United States…or so I thought. Thanks so much for your video. I just finished my king size bed yesterday; I built the base in my garage; and then pre cut and pre drilled the frame. I assembled it in the bedroom and it worked out perfectly. The only problem was when I tossed the Simpson ties into the base, nothing happened. I had to attach them manually. Thanks again.

I'm planning on making a bed myself, purely out of cost and quality as a bed costs hundreds but it's basic and I need something sturdy and exactly the height I need. Yours is a simple idea that works very well.

@Wyag Vibing Hey Wyag, thanks so much for stopping by. I appreciate your time and interest. More specific for the types of wood: make sure to use untreated lumber, 2x6's for the base and frame. If you want the base to be a little taller so you are able to store more stuff in there, make it out of 2x8, 2x10, or 2x12. Make sure to include a box spring to support your mattress or you can substitute plywood for a box spring. Does this help? Well, I'm sold. I'll be doing this shortly. I'm going to try to modify a bit. I'm going to use 2x10s on the outside, but use 2x8's or 2x6's on the inside, that way I can put some sort of plywood over the smaller board and have the mattress sink into the outer wood frame rather than using a small box spring. Great video!

Give the size of wood for the frame is all 2x6
@janicebroomfield763 hey Miss Janice, this is correct. If you just want to build yourself a floating bed frame, I’d recommend untreated construction grade 2x6’s for the base and the frame. You can easily modify this design to better suit your needs as desires also. I’ll be glad to help with that if you’d like. Just built this. Will be adding a few 2x4's along the top to give it more stability/act as slats so I don't have to use a boxspring/etc, but otherwise I have no critique. Thanks for sharing the build!

This is the way instructional videos should be made; concise and to the point, with no mindless jabbering or digressing from the task at hand. I like this frame, I had one made when I lived in Ireland but the fellow used screws instead of bolts to join the pieces and also ruined the heads of the screws which made it impossible to dismantle the frame

Ima buy a painter attachment for my drill to give them all a great finish and something worth investing a good amount of monnney maybe quit my day job bahaha. Hey, from Canada, northern Alberta here, currently just went out to buy the lumber. Came up to 120$ with screws. Except I forgot to buy the strong ties, town is 1hour each way. Gotta come up with something. Anyway great video, love it. Thanks.

I’m not really into carpentry but I couldn’t afford to buy a bed from the furniture store, so away I went on building lol so thanks to your easy build video we saved money & have a way more sturdy bed frame. Build went smoothly, was able to successfully improvise on the securing mechanism for the base and frame(saved some time on a second trip to the home improvement store), saved some money, rock solid new bed frame that you built yourself...hopefully had some kind of positive impact on your mental health.
