Can’t find bones in the meat at the grocery store! It’s ridiculous! Even the chicken thighs are now boneless skinless. We have become so lazy to want the bones out of thigh meat and so disconnected with our food that bones and skin are “gross.” Billy, your response about the love pond was PERFECTION! 😂

I just found you guys this evening and watched 5 of your last 7 videos. Im liking what I see and am subscribing now. I've recently gotten interested in permaculture/food forest and anything I can pic up before putting sweat equity into the wrong places and having to start over the better I will be. Hopefully in a couple years I can be 20 - 40% self-sufficient. Fingers crossed. 😎

@@Skashoon using a 55 gallon drum I set it on its side.drill a hole the diameter of the ceramic insulated of heat lamp. Then I cut a hole large enough for water and feeder. Then I use valcroe to secure. Then drill two pilot holes. One on each side of hatch. Install I screws for hanging water and feeder. Put a layer of wood chips, and drill some vent holes. I intend to place the brooders inside the chicken tractor then surround with electric fence. When the chicks are ready to leave the brooders I will rotate the barrels so the hatch is near the ground and they will self promote to the green grass

Comfrey root, infused in oil and applied (Via a soaked cotton pad) to a new blood blister, barked shin, hammered nail, cow steps on your foot..anything that will bruise or swell, will prevent the bruise, remove the blood blister, reduce the swelling and ease the pain. BAM!

Great stuff. in Texas, and other arid/semi-arid climates, we do need a much larger mulch ring as you said. It's wonderful how understanding the goal so often leads to proper application in permaculture.
One thing you can do is age a compost pile uphill of small ponds that don't have fish in them to get some extra richness out of them - can grow and harvest algae in them as well if your area is warm enough.

If you've never seen it before, look up videos on the "Ellen White Method" for planting trees. It's really interesting and a very good method for tree planting. I'm not sure if it's for all types of trees, but it's definitely used for planting fruit trees. There's charts/diagrams that show the layers of the hole that you dig for the tree (what she puts in each layer and why). They say you get amazing results from this method of planting fruit trees. (There's a layer of rocks/stones in the hole, among other layers).

Do you plant the daffodils, garlic and comfrey around the nitrogen-fixers, or just the fruit trees?
I want more comfrey too, but need to save up a while. Stretching SSI is one of my greatest challenges. (Especially for the times when it’s 5 weeks until the next payment.) I like that you pray for blessings on each tree.

We don’t typically plant them around the nitrogen fixers but we should.

If you have 1 comfrey you can dig roots for new plants. I dug up roots last fall and started lots of little pots...half took. Look up a video. It's super easy and doesn't cost you anything.

Thank you!! I just ordered more Comfrey from you! I already have about 30 plants in the ground. Lol I have to fence my guilds in completely as I have two large, rambunctious dogs that play hard and run over my trees! 🙄

I like to fill a 5gal bucket full of forest floor material. I dig a 20 dollar hole for a 5 dollar plant. Mix it in as I back fill. Gotta break up the clay soil here in S.E. Ohio.

Perfect timing. I'm looking at getting some fruit tree's, so far outrageous on price, so it may just be 1. Lol

Curious. How important is it to not expose roots to the sun? A friend counseled me to be careful to keep dry roots covered with damp newspaper before quickly getting them in the soil. I was concerned how long the roots of your specimen was exposed to the direct sun. I hope it made it. And keep on planting trees. Lovely video! Clustered mountain mint around a tree is also a deer deterrent and great for pollinators too! Native to mid-Atlantic states; maybe yours too? Thx!

Thank you for this video. I wish I would have seen it before planting our fruit trees! We did not use cardboard. We are having to cutthe grass around it and it's tedious work. But will be planting the covers around it such as daffodils and comfrey. However, how far from the fruit tree should we plant the black locust? Thanks!
