    It's nearly impossible to sell a Macbook to a private buyer unless it comes with specialized 3rd party applications that come with purchase receipts. Why would someone risk purchasing from me when they can buy it from Apple, Best Buy or Amazon with protection/warranty?? Places like Swappa, EBAY, Nextdoor and FB Marketplace do not act as technical support if something goes wrong. Once the sale is made, the buyer takes all of the risk, which they know. I have no choice but to give it away to a cousin, niece or nephew.
    I pretty much answered my own question, but you get the point.

    Is it possible to restore if the current OS is a beta? I don't think it will revert to down to the most recent public OS vers. One may need to turn off beta updates, and wait until there is a non-beta update. I am about to get into this, I need to prep my MBP 14 (OS beta) for trade in. Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you.

      @@AppleNinja I asked this because you left it at the Hello Window/screen and then you instructed to shut it off after that, once we get to the Hello Window/ screen… but, the activation window is before the Hello window/ screen… you activated it with your WiFi but stopped before the setup window which is after the Hello Window/ screen … that’s why I asked if we could just stop before connecting to WiFi and activate the laptop and just shut it off right there without activating it and let the new owner connect to their WiFi and activate the computer through their WiFi… I don’t know I just asked just in case there is a conflict for the new owner if he needs to take it to Apple and they give him crap for not being the original owner knowing they the laptop was activated somewhere else in some other state or even country, if he takes it overseas and activates it there… or for other reasons if they want to bother you and not work and fix any repairs.

    Thanks for this video but I have a question. So I have backed up and erased. Now I want to take some photos or screen shots of "about this Mac", battery health etc. But when I start up the mac, it wants me to sign into my apple account etc. If I press command Q to get out of start up, it asks if I want to shut down. How should I get the information to display to sell without signing in the computer to me? Hope you understand my question. BTW, it's running on Big Sur.

    New viewer here. I'm tinkering with a 2010 iMac 2389 21.5" that was working about a month ago. It doesn't boot anymore. When I push the "On" button, the fans start running, the #1 LED lights up steady green, and then nothing else happens. No startup chimes, and screen stays black. I've replaced the mother board, power supply, LCD inverter board, and hard drive. The problem persists. How can I test the EMI filter on the power cord socket for proper function?

    Thank you for the great video. With the last step, if we sign in with our WiFi credentials then won't they be saved, which we wouldn't want to do if we are selling it.

    • @AppleNinja
      @AppleNinja  Год назад +2

      Hey Sarvesh it should not keep the WiFi credentials stored. You would have to re-enter them when you walk through the setup assistant as a new Mac user on the fresh macOS.
      Here is from Apple:
      After joining a network, your Mac activates. Click Restart.
      macOS "Your Mac is activated" window
      After restart, a setup assistant guides you through the setup process, as if you're setting up your Mac for the first time.
      If you're selling, giving away, or trading-in your Mac and want to leave it in an out-of-box state, don't use the setup assistant or your previously connected Bluetooth devices, if any. Just press and hold the power button on your Mac until it turns off.
