I love this technique, James. This is what I do to my very thick hair that I'm trying to grow out. Helps to remove bulk and layer without taking off length..thank you for the tutorial!!

Thanks James...it works amazingly. Yes, I definitely would love to see it done with a razor as well 😊

Have any non-stylists attempted this at home?
I have wavy-ish, thick hair. My FAVORITE part of a haircut is at the end, when I’m blown dry, and the stylist comes in with those shears and “thins it out”. It feels SOOOOO GOOD and removes some excess weight and future tangles.
My stylist doesn’t seem to understand how much I crave the thinning shears. I often have to remind her to do it at the end, and I feel like she doesn’t take enough of the weight out. But it’s certainly better than nothing.
I would LOVE to be able to do this at home, but I’m a bit intimidated. I’m not sure if I need to buy expensive shears or if I can follow a technique like this with my sharpest scissors at home.

Brilliant thank you James, I need to thin out a bob haircut, the lady’s hair is so very thick. Will this work on her hair too?

I need the opposite. How to layer thin hair and keep fullness.

Could you use this on heavy bangs/fringe that you want to keep blunt but remove some of the weight and add movement?
