- Brand association is a strong force in any industry, and aviation is no exception. When Air India was privatized by the Tata Group in early 2021, it set out to overhaul the carrier and its identity - presenting it as a premium airline that would rival the best in the world. In early August, it took the most visual step towards that, unveiling a brand new livery and logo.

During its peak, Air India had the finest livery. However, over time, it evolved into a hodgepodge of the old and new, resulting in a lack of a distinct identity which felt like trying to live in the past glory but at the same time struggling to cope with modern requirements. The recent makeover, in this regard, conveys a clearer message, though I believe they could've done a better job.
As an aviation enthusiasm, it's quite Interesting to see Air India has been developed with privatization under Tata Group. We have to wait and see about Air India with new interior cabin and services. Hopefully in my country, one day Malaysia Airlines should be privatize as well like Air India does.
Sad to see the iconic livery around the windows being done away with. They could have retained that at least. The design was unique and one of the few endearing features of the old Air India.
Agreed that it’s a shame to see it go. If I recall correctly from their 747-200s, there was also a distinctive interior treatment.

The tail is beautiful, it looks like a sari. The palace window design were beautiful. The huge jet orders that Indian carriers have worries me about overcapacity in near future.
Livery on the bottom is such an amazing addition.
Unless Air India comes-up with a plan to fix their routine long delays in departures, I don't see how it can survive in the international market
Agreed, its by far the worst airline I ever used, they even made Ryan air look good by comparison.

The new Livery looks very colorful like Indian costume, hope the new company bring back old glory both in service and connectivity.
they've just made it modern like any other airline, should've have held on to some of their indian identity and heritage.

It’s really sad to see what’s happening to the new liveries. All planes are becoming intirely white with infant letters, finishing with mediocre logos in the belly and rudder.

@@xpointer483 interesting, I think it look amazing, especially on their 747s. I’m a fan of liveries that include chest lines and such, and I don’t really like the Eurowhite livery with a few exceptions, and it’s sad to see one of the last airlines with this livery that has generally stayed the same for a long time change it’s livery, but I do like the new one, but you do you.
The Maharaja isn't going away! They just said that he'll be used differently!

I do not know the design and aircraft jargon, but the old design on the tail of Air India was very elegant, beautiful and impressive. That should have been retained. First time ever something TATA have done that I think, is absolutely regretable and should be changed back to the old tail design.

They should add golden colour border around Windows that will look better
They couldn’t just use the 1990s palace in the sky livery, that would have been a far better choice even the current livery is an eye catcher
Change is the universal law of nature. One should not be a prisoner of past bcoz past is history. In my opinion, the new livery is very good as it reflects the quest for changing the airline in toto. We can expect changes in the livery in the coming decades also. No airline has retained its livery for over a half century. If we retain the old livery it would be a shame.
Singapore Airlines hasn't changed and it's still one of the best.
@@timboulton2571 Don't compare with Singapore Airlines. In Air India's case, change is imperative to give it a refreshingly new look and identity that is in tune with times. I will hasten to add that somewhere in 1989-90, Air India changed its livery designed by John Landor & Associates. It was a very good move then. The leitmotif of theme that set Air India apart from the original livery was "Grace of East and Pace of West". Hope you understand.

I absolutely LOVE the new livery. Totally hated the old livery. It looked extremely dull and outdated to me! It’s time truly passed. Some people who are hating the new livery seems to be incapable of coming out from nostalgia and old things. The new livery looks so modern and on par with other world class carriers.

Unsure if the old logo is that of the Rising Sun as mentioned in the video, rather it’s the symbol of the Wheel that is part of the Indian Flag.

United did it way way better than Air India’s. It’s way ahead of its time and it’s completely lacked tradition. They should’ve made some enhancements with their old one instead of designing it from scratch. You may call it stunning but I call it disappointing.

Purple color in tail is given as mark of respect to it's own airline Vistara which will be merged in AI. Interiors too will have purple touch.

I Renner when I returned to America for vacation the kids were screaming on the plane because they saw an Air India plane.
The typeface and logo leave much to be desired.
Vistara's tail design was more appealing. While people might eventually become accustomed to it, the current livery is far from practical. The bright, glossy gold & red color is likely to fade rapidly.
Moreover, the style and colors (combination of red, gold, and purple) do not reflect Indian culture, whether modern or traditional.
Disappointing move by the Tatas.

I dislike this, the new one is like every other airline, old one was unique, and they had the non-english name also, seeing everything revolving around english and everything white is just sad, no true uniqueness

I prefer the current livery. PIA also tried to adopt the markhor livery but it was dropped because of public pressure and supreme court.

I'm glad they removed the Hindi translation. As it is no longer a government airline, it is wise not to choose one language over another.

This minimalist trend should be stopped. Indian art and culture is not about minimalism. The color scheme is not great imo and why did they have to remove the hindi translation? The font is weird looking.
The livery should have retained its old font and the Vista on its windows. As of now the livery looks drab except for the belly paint and does not stand out as earlier. AI please add the jharokha windows asap
Even changing the color or logo makes any difference, why they have a low price Carrier called air India Express, that running on the Gulf sector most of the day always have a breakdown in Gulf sector poor the low income people flying on Gulf sector suffers some time more than 36-48 hours to fix the issue and Air India people never informed customers what's wrong with it and provide any accommodations at all. I said that changing the logo or color makes any difference
Meh. The belly design looks like a copy from Emirates. The tail design does not look neat. Combines colours with that of Vistara
The CGI renders make the livery look awful, the actual colours are much nicer. The burgundy is actually burgundy and not the gross orange pink colour in the videos.
The font looks meh.. The rest of it is fine..

Air India should not remove Hindi fonts from its side panel. At least that tells who we are !
The new livery is pretty damn good. I will say, however, that the font used for the logo seems awfully similar to Icelandair's.

This is now just another dollar store knock off European air line. Without the palace windows and the maharaja, it's completely lost its identity.
The new logo is nice but the livery is a disappointment. Bland and undistinctive, too much gold giving a somewhat bling bling vibe. I expected something much more refined from the designers that gave us the current Fiji Airways and Air Tahiti Nui liveries......
I’m really not happy with this livery! It looks cheap, poorly conceived and a very very expensive waste of money to “rebrand” the airline especially with a Vistara merger coming soon and a brand new fleet incoming! 😂 😡 For an airline with financial woes I’m shocked they’d spend all that money 💵 to rebrand (only upside is no Hindi on the name anymore) however they made the airline look awfully like a low cost or budget carrier not a fabulous new full service excellent carrier of the future! I also miss seeing no more classic Indian “Jaroka” design pattern around the windows! I wish they’d added a classic new look because I do believe Air India’s livery and design needed an overhaul but not a low cost crappy look and feel! Not Great!

I cannot wait to see their new A350 aircraft fly however as much as I live the A350 I wish they’d gone with the B777X family just like they’ve now gone with the B737 MAX family
i wouldn't call that "stunning" if stunning you mean appalling.
The old livery looked like something out of the 1970s and 1980s and needed an upgrade. But now it's a corporate livery, rather than a national airline livery, that went too far away from Indian identity in my opinion. Just like IAG taking away the classic green (that used to have a blue stripe) Aer Lingus livery instead of modernising it. It's a pity nations are losing their national airlines to corporations, especially when the airlines lose their identity even if they keep the name.
The people who say it i beautiful are delusional. Beautiful by what standard? A solid white plane? The old livery looks awesome on the A350, hopefully they will at least keep one as a retro...

Poor colour combination, boring font, outdated design is what you call awesome? And I think you should look at the livery again, it’s not just white. It has other colours as well which makes the overall colour combination very sleek and modern especially the red engines with the golden lace at the front and all around the body. Come out of the 1960s. Its 2023 now.

Air India has no hope with no donations
The old livery may not be the most beautiful one, but it’s iconic, it’s extremely detailed, you know it’s an Air India just looking for it’s plane’s windows. It may be the most unique livery in aviation history. The new livery is more of the same, it’s boring, the colours are bad chosen, not different from a cheap IndiGo livery.
Nothing unique about the logo, we have seen this all before. Obviously it's much better than the previous one which screamed 1980's but it's gonna take them years to convince the world it's a safe, high standard airline, at the moment they have no chance to compete against Emirates, Qatar, Singapore and Etihad. They would have to offer lower fares for people to choose Air India instead of any of the Middle Eastern airlines, or other international airlines offering direct routes in/out of India. It's a good start, but the fundamentals need to be strong too, it's not good enough to put lipstick on a pig. Hope they succeed, the more competition the better.

I personally think the old livery was much better and was much more iconic. This new livery is trash and is not honoring the decades of Indian aviation that came before under the old magnificent livery

Absolutely terrible livery! There is nothing unique about it. It neither has any contemporary elements nor does it have any classic element. Sad to see the old livery depart into the history books.
