Thanks for checking out my video. I would like to share what we learnt driving my own vehicle from Guyana to Paramaribo. Once all you paperwork is up to date with your vehicle, you're good to go.
It is important to visit your vehicle insurance company to get an additional temporary insurance to present at the border together with your original one, especially if you're with Hand in Hand company.
If for some reason you forget to visit your insurance company in Georgetown, don't worry, there are several insurance companies in Skendon, Corentyne. Keep in mind, they open at 8:00am. If you have to do this in Berbice, you would not have enough time to get back to the ferry. You can overnight at the La-Grill hotel and bar for around 45-60 USD. Call and book your room 335 4051. find them on Facebook @ La Grill Restaurant, Hotel & Car Rental.
Having said, some days would have two ferry crossing over, so you still have a chance of getting your insurance done and getting across to Suriname in the same day.
REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER SURINAME BY ROAD & OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS.
    1. You have to be fully vaccinated: If you have the Sputnik vaccine, you are required to present a covid test at the border from the Guyana side. If you're traveling from Suriname, then you need to do a covid test; the rapid test is acceptable.
    2. You need a yellow fever vaccine; walk with the card to show customs.
    3. Of course you need your passport; make sure you check it to make sure the date in which it's expected to expire is more than 6 months.
    4. Make sure you get to the border early. If I'm going again, I would want to be there at least by 5:30am; only around 22 vehicles can fit on the ferry at once. Getting there early, means that you have to leave Georgetown very early as well and driving along the Berbice main road at nights is not always safe; this his the country side and one should be on the look out for domestic animals, especially cows, hours, Pigs, Donkeys, Goats and Sheep.
So to be on the safe side; if I'm going gain, I'm definitely driving up the day before. The bright-said of this is the fact that you don't have to rush to get to the border, instead you can take your time and enjoy the scenery or perhaps stopping at the famous 63 beach then taking your time to the hotel afterwards.
    5. Buy your US or Suriname dollars in Georgetown; at the border, you get a higher rate exchange. It's not much but every dollar counts. We traveled with mostly USD and had no problem using that to shop items. If I'm going again, I would most likely buy more Suriname dollars or just have like half Suriname and half in USD. I would recommend you download one of those currency convert app to help keep you up to date with the exchange rate.
    6. If you're driving for the first time like me; I would strongly recommend you download the Maps.me app maps.me/ on your phone; once you download this app, make sure you then download the Suriname map within the app too. It works without wifi and will help you to find your way around Suriname.
I had Google Maps on my phone as well; it worked as well but mostly on wifi. If someone sends you there location for you to drive to them, It will most likely open up via google maps. So I would strongly recommend you buy a local SIM card once you arrive at your destination in Suriname because the google map will not work. It will work if you open up the location once you're connected to wifi and will continue working once you leave that connection. In general, you will need some form of wifi to receive that gps location anyway, so go ahead and get a local SIM card ASAP. Once you have the local sim and data, then you're good to go using google maps.
Sometimes google maps kept rerouting me as I got closer to my destination, don't panic just fine a spot to stop and navigate again. We used Google maps and Maps.me to get around the entire trip. We had no problems driving in Suriname.
    DRIVING IN Paramaribo SURINAME.
Suriname and Guyana drive on the same left side of the road so no issue there. They were some different traffic signs but caused no problems for us to understand. Otherwise, Suriname is by far way more easy and comfortable to drive than in Guyana/Georgetown.
No one honking there horns at you to move etc like people do in Guyana.
    1. We were never STOPED and harassed BY ANY Police like they do in Guyana. In fact, there was one police checkpoint along the road to Paramaribo where you have to stop, Not even there the police stoped us. It was only on the way back to Guyana they wanted to see our passport, that was it and we continued to the border.
Look out for part two of the video, will share more info there.
