His father's poetry is so different.
    I dig them both.

If I could write like anyone alive, I think it'd be him. Well, Charles Wright, I'd love to sound like him too. Well, Michael McClure, I'd give a couple of appendages to sound like that. But what about C.K. Williams...

A better question is, what the hell am I walking about? What the hell am I stalking--pardon the word-salady clanging--from afar if not Zachary Scott, he of the Satanic tache & reticule of Leelanau grapes slung over his shoulder like a duffel, he's beelining to the Pequod, let's follow, after all we're all seamen, all G-men & our semen is highly quaffable. It hits the g-spot.

WRIGHT was often a walking cliche. The poet that kills himself for the sake of art is the cliche he embodied in an abused body. ALCOHOL is my fav poem by the late author.
On the other hand, as a successful second generation poet, he spoke well against MFA myopic HAPPY IDEA small vision poetry. RIP. Give my regards to LOU REED.

His elocution is terrible: a monotone brey. The poetry is threadbare confessional plaint of a generation before. To Franz Wright it was always 1957. He never fell out of the orbit of Stuart Friebert, his Oberlin mentor ca. 1976.

Have you heard him on David Stylvians album? I think his tone and cadence and delivery are musical as hell!
This itself is far from monotone...

I certainly see why his voice might not be appealing. But it’s just how he talks. At least he’s not doing some cheesy performance enunciation.
As for the poetry…a lot of his poems are great. Some are confessional but most are sort of reflective lyrics. Confessional poetry tends to focus on specific events of the poets personal as a tool through which to examine broader ideas. Franz rarely uses specifics from his own life. He’s more a general observer of social condition or a sort of votive lyricist who uses charged images to evoke a specific kind of charged atmosphere. And he’s pretty funny.
Also, even if he was a confessional poet, who cares? Why use a poetic style as a means to criticize. It’s irrelevant. Either it’s good or it isn’t regardless of what “school” he comes from. He’s written a lot of good stuff.
