I recently bought an expired domain with 473 backlinks. But when I started to dig further I found that all these backlinks pointed at the home page. None of them pointed to articles or pages on the site other than the home page. I was concerned that I wasted my money but I still had a DA of 9 for the site so even without an assistance in ranking my content I still win from having a bunch of backlinks. With a DA if 9 I am very competitive when targeting keywords with a difficulty of up to around 11 compared to a new domain with no backlinks where I start to struggle with getting rankings for keywords with a KD of 5 or more... So yes I am definitely a fan of grabbing domains that target a niche I am developing if they have backlinks.
@@24SevenMarketing Is it always true that you get your DA reading after several days you buy the dropped domain and set up a site? OR you got the DA9 even before you setup the site
@Ask Me Anything not much progress. I went to DIY route and found an expired domain myself. 50 pages posted, only two indexed on Google. Been a slog and not a quick ranking experience. I'm hopeful that when it is indexed it ranks well!
@Ask Me Anything I have and it hasn't done much good. These are down as "Discovered-currently not indexed" which can be down to a number of factors, including them just needing time. I may look into using the RankMath plugin to instant index the pages.
I loved the intro, and from what I've learned from you guys, it's nice for SEO purpose to make that kind of stuff, so go for it ;) PS : Please make a french intro haha
I think they will kill 301 power so that over a period of time, say 12 months it nullifies completely. Otherwise, they can't really penalize someone who Frankensteins an old domain into a legit, same-niche, site. I hope not as that is the backbone of my strategy for next year ...LOL if they do, I have to think again.
We have lot of examples in Tarantula SEO when even irrelevant link profile from expired domain can influence boost of rankings. PBN based link building nowadays can be a are risky tactic but if you change this and that a little bit you can get great results. You don't have to focus on building a BLOG - it can be a small project that looks like a regular local business or institution website (as it was built before domain expired). I would also avoid building a NETWORK. If all pages are connected to eachother it may cause a domino effect when Google will realize, that some of them are violating guidelines and are set up just to emit some links. I would also suggest avoiding WordPress because in most cases you will have to use redirects and loose some link juice. That's what we did in Tarantula SEO - we are getting back all the URL's that had any good backlinks and build topically relevant content that is coherent to certain page's topic in the past. Building links on microsites set up on well selected expired domains (without filter, tested, with good connection to seed pages that are frequently crawled) is a great shortcut that can benefit your link building and may help you outrank competition which utilizes only natural links, womm, outreach, guest blogging etc.
This is great info. I do have one question. If you buy an expired domain, how do you recover all the content on it? Also would it be a case of essentially copying the original content and doing a redirect to my site? Would you also recommend indexing my page I just created with the search console? Thank you
Hey would you please reply. What's the difference between expired and deleted domain. And why buying a deleted domain makes its dns registry of the day we repurchase. So if it shows a new date than what's the meaning of reputation as it is less than 30 days.
Hi Gael, so do you recommend also keeping an eye on dropped domains? Or is anything that doesn't get sold through the auction almost certainly worthless?
Hi , please reply I am thinking to buy an expired Domain. That Domain contains some keyword that were ranking and getting a good traffic too. Can i recreate that pages once again too with same permalink ? Will it rank quickly ?
@@AuthorityHacker You think if google saw 20, 50, 100 domains pointing to yours that it would not have a concern? I know 100 is extreme but there must be an upper limit Be a good test to do to see at what point the improvement stops or even becomes negative. I guess the rule is to buy a handful of strong domains
Excellent video. I have a related question. I have several sites that have about a dozen articles on them 2 to 3 years old, zero links, virtually no traffic, with GSC that appear to get crawled regularly. In your experience, is there any benefit to building out a site like this over buying a fresh domain and using that? Apologies for long-windedness...
yeah because these domains are older and indexed you will get some benefit in using them instead of a fresh domain but not as much as if the domain already had links too.
I bought an aged domain and in less than a week have 10 articles published - I have many more planned - but none have been indexed yet except the homepage, I expected an aged domain to index much faster, does this sound normal?
Usually it's still a bit sluggish at first. Make sure you register webmaster console and index your new pages there. Also make sure to redirect the old pages with links to new pages
@@alvarezarl Hi, that aged domain i bought didn't really hold much weight. I added about 30-50 articles straight away and nothing got indexed. I tried every white hat seo trick in the book and nothing - even called on googles indexing api and that did index them but they all dropped out within a week or two. All my articles are ranking now and i am getting some, not many clicks - between 30-50 per day on about 70 articles. its basically acting like a fresh domain -- however i will say, i bought my domain at ODYS and they worked with me while i was having these issues and they couldnt fix the issues - they ended up giving me a full refund (in ODYS credits) and i kept the domain - so all in all it somewhat worked out but i didnt get the results i was expecting - i will try again and buy a new one at sompoint tho - happy to share more details with you if you need
Is it safe in your experience to do a redirect after a while to a brand new brandable domain? Or there is a possibility that you get penalized? Or instead of building a website from an expired domain and do the redirect. Wouldn't be easier to buy a brand new domain and aquire an expired one and redirect it on the new domain?
No you won't get penalised for rebranding a site. Big brands do it all the time, look at transfer wise.com that became wise.com for example. In general your chances of success are better if you build a site on the expired domain then redirect.
What about buying an expired domain with a higher DA than your own then redirecting posts from your own website? My website has decent content but being in a super-competitive niche will take a long time (or a ton of money) to rank. Would this be a good plan? (Loving your wee dog btw.)
Google might treat the redirects from expired domains as PBN right? Do we need to have them on another hosting under another identity and IP or is it ok to do the redirects normally on same hosting?
What do you think guys? Will you consider buying a dropped domain after watching this? 🤔

Do you find there is a time period you have to set up these pages on the expired domain to redirect before Google discredits them?
Hum usually when "launching" a site on an expired domain I'd redirect all old pages with links right away.
It works. Telling from experience.

Dropped domains tend to have a lot less "success" in carrying on the old authority. From my experience trying both I'd stick to expired domains.

I read on another known SEO expert's site that you shouldn't redirect more than 1 to 2 expired domains to a single site.

Nah using expired domains is not really considered grey hat if you build a legitimate site on them. It's just a feature of the industry.
