- The Canon eos 1 has been my workhorse film camera for quite a while now and even though it doesn't have that "classic" look that many people look for in film cameras but this camera is still a very enjoyable, capable and reliable film camera to use! With the price tag still decreasing, it really makes this camera a no-brainer in most cases! I hope you can gain something from this video! :-)

I have all three generations, 1, 1N and 1V and all three are in very good condition and work beautifully.
Nice! How do much do they differ in use? Especially in terms of autofocus?
Useful review. I’m old and bought one in the late 80s along with its superb battery grip. Along with the 20-35L 2.8 and 80-200L 2.8 it remains a fully working professional tool. It is unsurpassed for ergonomics. The single point autofocus is really easy to use. Whilst I eventually moved to digital (40D, 7D, 5D mk 3), I looked at my EOS1 the other day and it’s perfect and just feels great in hand, especially with the battery grip. I recall it cost me £800 and the grip £200. The two metal bodied lenses were also about £900 each. Unlike fashion items, the EOS1 is a professional tool. Add 35 yrs of inflation onto the prices the pro system cost in its day and you’ll be looking at many £ thousands for the kit.
I think the battery grip is a power winder and can give you higher frame rates.
It’s a masterpiece. Find one owned by a serious amateur like me and it’s probably only seen 1/10th of its working life and will probably be in immaculate condition.
I shot with Velvia, Provia 100 and Reala. That’s why I’ve ordered a Fuji X100VI that is coming tomorrow. It’s the closest thing to the old film world with no processing costs and high quality video.
I’m off on a bucket list tour to China with my wife in a few weeks. Hence the Fuji. However, I’m still tempted to take the EOS1 and 5D bodies to get the best of all worlds. Film is just so expensive now….
Great video. I used a lot of film cameras years ago, but never got my hands on the EOS 1. This is something I'll do in the future.
Yeah, I highly recommend it, it's a really nice film camera to at least give it a try. Sure, it feels very different from the traditional classic film camera but it is also good have a capable film to operate with in the field. I also have the Eos 1n, RS, and the 1V bodies. They are all great bodies. You can not go wrong with the Eos 1.😊

I have and use the EOS 1N and it's really great! I use it from time to time combined with a Nikon F4
I recently got an eos1 for £20. (Yes you read that correctly). For spares and repair. All it needed was a battery. It's a bit bashed but works a dream.
How are the batteries? do you have to change them often?

Great review. I am much older than the EOS-1. I upgraded from an FT-QL and thought it pretty spiffy.

It’s a masterpiece so find a mint one. I’ve had one for 30 yrs with the power drive. Just feel right in the hand. Single point focus is easy to master. Build quality is amazing. It’s a professional tool and changed the photography world back in the late 1980s.
When Canon opted for in lens autofocus, they left Nikon in the dust. Look back at press and sports photographers of the 1990s and you’ll see 9 to 1 ratio of EOS1 to Nikon users. The white lenses are the giveaway.

I'm using an eos5, functionnaly, it is really close to it, just the build quality is a bit lower I'd say.

I have tried to buy this camera here in Germany but it’s hard to find a one in a good shape
So I had to buy another camera it’s called the Canon Eos 300
And it’s not bad at all
But the problem still for me is the lenses
When I mount a cheap 50 mm or a cheap 35 mm I get an ok results
I think these type of Cameras the Canon Eos 1 or 1N or Eos 300 are very nice to use these days
But I feel that it’s a must to mount very expensive EF L series lens so I can get perfect shots
I think the L lenses can make a huge difference
Off course the problem that the L lenses are expensive and they cost a lot
I have a favor to ask
Please can you make a photo shoot using another cheap Camera like the Eos 300 or Eos 500 using an L lens so we can see the results

Yeah, sometimes it can be hard to find it since it is also not a popular film camera because it doesn't have the classic look nor does it have the performance of the eos 1n and eos 1v... The eos 300 at the bottom line is a good camera, I just personally have used it a lot to the point where I am having problems with the shutter (as mentioned in the video) and also the eos 500 as well. In my experience, it really depends on which L lens, because quite often I think that it's best to work with non L lenses with these cameras as L lenses can require too much of the system from these cameras.
Here are some of my shoots that I shot with the eos 500 in the past:

Though they weren't entirely shot with the analog camera but there were parts that I used the eos 500 and you will also see that in the video. For the L lenses, I used the ef 35mm f/1.4 L and the 85mm f/1.2 II L. As of the non-L, I used the ef 50mm 1.4. I think that the 50mm was the best fit because with these older cameras, the less glass in the lens, the better since it will be easier to focus with and therefore lesser chance of having missed focus. However, where L lenses do have an advantage is actually in zoom lenses, generally speaking, you will see a better image performance in zooms than in prime because optical quality difference is there in the images. So an ef 24-105mm f/4.0 will be a better zoom lens to use than a standard kit lens of ef 28-80mm for example. That being said, this is all actually very subjective to one's taste as well because I know people who really love the softness look as well as rough look that certain older standard lenses produces.
