Purpose of Text

Texts serve various purposes, primarily to inform, persuade, entertain, or narrate. Understanding these purposes helps readers to better engage with the material and authors to effectively convey their messages.
Informative texts are designed to educate the reader about a particular topic, providing facts, explanations, and insights without the intention of influencing opinions or evoking emotional responses. For instance, a science textbook explaining photosynthesis purely describes the process through which plants convert light into energy, without persuading the reader about its importance or entertaining them with side stories.
