- This live version comes off a nice Squeeze oddity...the "6 Squeeze Songs Crammed Into One Ten Inch Record" record! Released in 1979 on A&M Records.
It is really cool and a nice addition to anyone's Squeeze collection.
This version blows away the studio version which sounds draggy next to this. LOVE THIS SONG!
Ah yes finally someone posts this great version of Goodbye Girl. I prefer this uptempo version over the original but both are great!
this version blows the other away
This is the best version. My old band played the fast version. I remember this record!
I actually heard this version before the slower album version. There was this station in NY circa 1979 that played Punk and New Wave before WLIR and this version got a lot of airplay on it back then. What a great time and place to be young!
Station was WPIX and they played more new wave than punk. Good station because they played things you wouldn't here on the radio otherwise. WNEW tried somewhat.
Wow, I also heard this version before the studio one. It may have the first tune of theirs I heard.
Anyway, it was such a blast coming through the radio- it was WPIX in New York- and it still sounds great.
@@matthewstetson711yes, definitely WPIX.
@@matthewstetson711 YES!!! The "PIX Penthouse Party" The Simone Phone. A great station back then and a great time to be around NY circa 1978- 80.
This is a great version of a great song by a great band. I still recall the time I heard it for the first time in the late seventies.
Always been my favorite version.
This is the version that sold me on this band.
I need to get a turntable so I can listen to this when I need to. Had this from way back in the day.
Thank you so much for posting this version!
It's available on CD---there is a special release of "Argybargy" which has two disks, the second one has live versions of their concert hits. This is on there
@@johannesvalterdivizzini1523thanks, Johannes, for that information.
I absolutely love this version. I've never been able to accept that the band brought back the studio version and played it live for all those years recently. The exception would be Glenn leading a Tin Angel audience around the streets of Philly as he played the studio arrangement. I was going to say solo but he definitely had help.
superior version of this song- far outstrips the original on cool for cats album! I love this!
This is my favourite version of Goodbye Girl. Glad I came across a copy of the Squeeze 10 inch LP in a second hand record shop in Newcastle 👍
The year I graduated from college---this version was my theme song.
THANK YOU!
Other than a bit of a rough mix (lead vocals are about -6dB lower than they should be, meaning they get lost in the guitars a bit) this is THE version that should have been a hit. It's miles better, a real fast bluesy shuffle with boogie woogie rock'n'roll piano from Jools. I have the record in the picture and it's a great record. Little 10" with three songs both sides, mine plays pretty clean. Nice find in a charity shop.
This one of my favourite records from my dad's collection as a kid. I'm VERY thankful I inherited this one from him!
Snider- there’s probably a reason no one who thumbs-up your comment and it’s really not a knock on your obviously superior musical tastes.
I think it’s not “my dad’s collection” phrase. At least that’s what made me wince. Man, I could be the age of his dad!
Anyway, having gotten that off my chest, I’m going back to like your comment.
This version one of my all time favourite songs. So much better than the original version.
I need this EP - I bought in 1980 and lost my copy.
me too... shit
This is my favorite version. Thanks for sharing!
This version of this song burns the other one to the ground!
Thanks for sharing it. I have the same, so I can share it without having to make the video myself :). I wonder how much it could fetch in the market.
Best version. I need to get this version! Any suggestions on how?
Oh yeah. That's more like it. Is there anything else on this ep different from the album versions?
Jools Holland piano version if I'm not mistaken?
It’s hard to imagine that fancy action on the piano isn’t Jools- but I’m not certain.
