Great to see Jason back playing with the band. I ve been hoping he would reappear as he has been such wonderful contributor to the overall sound of tuba skinny.
@@JamesSterling Thanks Janesville for updating me about Jason. Maybe one day I will see him play again perhaps with a super and if not with Tuba skinny
Ésta música me gusta desde el primer día q los ví de casualidad en internet, hoy un seguidor de sus melodias, de la bella voz de Érika y la gran Shaye. Felicitaciones. Saludos desde Peruvian.
Many thanks, James. 'Mississippi River Blues' (Big Bill Broonzy, 1934) was later recorded under the title 'Big Boat' by Washboard Sam. It appears to be an archetypical 16-bar tune, starting with the Magnolia Chord Progression [I - I7 - IV - IVm]. You can hear the words clearly on Broonzy's version: ruclips.net/video/EoPYoOPVRcs/видео.html . He sings it in G, whereas Erika is more comfortable with the key of E flat.
Pops you may recognize the date and performance as the last time you were in New Orleans. We sat together that night at the Maison at a table far from the stage and I excused myself long enough to go up front and record a few songs, including their fantastic performance of "Once in a While."
Thanks, James. I remember the night with enormous nostalgia and affection. And the following day we heard the Audacity Brass Band (including Haruka - who excitedly told us of her pregnancy), Catie Rodgers and her Swing Orchestra, and Charlie Halloran’s Chosen Six. On the Saturday we were trapped in the hotel pretty well all day by a tropical storm. On Sunday we heard the Shake ‘Em Up Jazz Band in Preservation Hall; and on the Monday I had the great pleasure of meeting Shaye’s mother. But alas: on Wednesday 18th, we had to say good-bye to New Orleans for the last time and set out on our 29-hour journey home.
That is the incomparable Ewan Bleach from England. The conditions were difficult for recording. A large noisy crowd during French Quarter Festival and my usual seat at the end of the bar near the band was taken.
Yes, Ewan played in a couple of videos of "Jubilee Stomp" posted by The WSM. Ewan played with the band for most of the year back around 2015, as did Jonathan Doyle. Ewan returned for brief stints with the band during festival season a few years ago.
Fantastic.
All good on the video position! We are here for the music!
Thank you 🙏 James 🎥and 👍tuba 🪕🪘🎤🥁🎸🪗🎺🎷🎼🎻skinny joyfully jazz dance 💃🏼🕺🏼daily 👏👏👏

I hope I'm right that this was recorded some time ago, I love this era of US and thank James most sincerely for making it availablexxx
You are welcome Anthony. I listed the date both in the intro title in the video and in the description below the video, April 12, 2018
Thank you

This was recorded in 2018, so sadly he has not rejoined the band.

Shaye give me goosebumps. She's the best horn player everrrrr.
She is the best I've heard, brilliant again.

@@anthonymahoney4329 if I say I have no memory of writing that, does that make it OK?
And I still deny writing it.

IS should have read Tubs Skinny.
Great to see two reed players and Brian on banjo. Good music now, was better then.
That's Jason Lawrence on banjo.
Oops, I knew that.
👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
Don't swing the Sousa around so much; it's a BIG directional bell, and its position can change the sound dynamics.
Actually loved the "raw" sound of this recording. Thanks James. Who is that on the clarinet?

Ewan has his own NO Jazz band over there now. They are on RUclips.

Thanks James. Is this the same session where they played "Once in a While" when Shaye gave such a great performance?
Yes it is. And that video of "Once in a While" is one of my favorites among the hundreds I have made of the band.
@JamesSterling That video is also one of my favourites and this one shows how they were "on fire" on that night. Thank you for your excellent videos.
