I think what I appreciate most is Emmy's ability to describe what she's doing and experiencing with her senses with a delightful level of knowledge and detail. Takes you from just watching someone prepare something to the ability to imagine yourself doing it as well.
EXACTLY!
I find myself rewatching previous videos as background asmr comfort while I do chores, study. It’s such a comforting thing.
That’s more onion than anything else! She used onion when cooking the flowers & more onion than filling. It’s an onion taco not a flower one! 🤢🤮
@@donnavaldez6075,
Boiled hibiscus has no flavor. She's tasting the onion, chipotle, and tomato. I agree
@jordandubie, how dramatic madam. 😂
Love hearing you say you’re not a fan of watermelon while looking exactly like a watermelon 😂❤
I was going to comment about the watermelon top 😂
I felt that *"you've been warned"* in my BONES. Sewing scissors are not for paper or packaging or anything but fabric and thread.
💀 Right?! 😆
😆🤣 "Do not touch my sewing scissors! You've been warned."
I can totally relate to that.
I literally sleep with having Emmy videos play in the background due to she only has specifically ONE AD that isn’t loud or long and perfect! Shout out to sterns and fosters ! 😂
I do too lol !!!💙 I think the ad is funny considering that she promotes Helix mattresses!!!
I THOUGHT I WAS ALONE HAHAHA
lol, how can the same ad play a few times for every single one of her videos, and NO OTHER ONES, EVER? Someone at that company is convinced that emmymade fans are the One True Path to market dominance.
@@werrrp it's true every time that I watch her videos I always see that same ad for Sterns & Foster and I just laugh because Emmy"s sponsor is Helix Mattresses 😂😂😂 and we own a Helix Sleep- Twilight!!!💙
Think Celestial seasoning makes some type of hibiscus tea. Looks interesting tx
Haven't seen your content in years. I am glad it's still the same style from my childhood! Stay lovely Emmy!
If you see this, try adding like a quarter stick of cinnamon and some dried cranberries. It works super well with Jamaica agua fresca! (Might not be traditional but hey, totally worth it ❤️)
Same style but 1000% more commercials.
Same style but 1000% more commercials.

Adding tamarind to the hibiscus infusion adds a really nice tangy flavor
Hibiscus is quire tangy, most varieties dont need additional acidity.
Another fun addition is spice like cinnamon, cloves and the like.
@@lemonz1769 Eh, I think hibiscus is more sour than tangy. Tamarind complements it nicely.
That sounds lovely!
Jamaicans add sweet rum to theirs at that point i don't remember it being anywhere near sour but it's like a spiced Christmas drink. Like imagine a cranberry rum spiced drink.
In my predominantly West Indian neighborhood, the hibiscus is called sorrel, and is sold dirt cheap in large plastic bags. I make my drink with a little bit if dried mint for extra cooling, and sweeten with stevia as I am diabetic. It’s killer! Really refreshing, cooling, thirst-quenching.
I will try the tacos, sounds really good!
So interesting, because in european-origin english speaking areas of the us, sorrel is a kinda rare to find leafy green! Looks like a yard weed.
Sorrel is something completely different here in the States. It's a delicious herb and often considered a weed by some.
😊😊
🇯🇲 Jamaican here. Many of us in the Caribbean know it as sorrel, and while found year round, it's traditionally made at Christmas.
The"flowers" are boiled and steeped at least overnight with ginger. Sweetened with brown sugar, then spiked with wine, rum or liqueur. My family bottles it in glass bottles with a few grains of pimento. ❤
We eat hibiscus flowers here in Angola! It’s called “lombi de mutyetye” here, when you eat the calyxes/leaves. There’s a wild variety that’s very tasty and lemony.
Emmy , my mother and i both have watched your channel for years. She is a big sewer and all of my life has been deathly serious about her sewing scissors. I truly thought she must be the only one , now i know its a conspiracy! LOL
Chilled Hibiscus tea is a delicious summery drink in Egypt. It's also a very effective traditional remedy for hypertension!
scissors are underrated kitchen tools. they're called kitchen sears for a reason.
A common staple in a Mexican household. Hibiscus flowers go great with kale and 🌮!
I actually like the water without the sugar. Best thirst killer ever
If you cut into an unripe avocado, steam it. I promise you it works like a charm. I cut it into slices and plop them onto an already med-high pan with a couple tablespoons of water, quickly cover, and remove when soft. Doesn't take long. Few minutes.
"I'm not a watermelone person."
-Emmy dressed as a watermelon
Hi! Looks delicious. For a non alcoholic cocktail add a splash of Ginger Ale, that is what I do with unsweetened cranberry juice! Nice tart but with a bit of carbonation.
Oh a hint for the "oh no I cut open my avocado too soon!" Just remove skin and pit as usual. Then slice the hard avocado. Heat up small pan with EVOO (just a light spray will do it) and add the avocado. Cook until both sides lightly browned. Remove, sprinkle with a bit of salt/garlic (or not) and eat! You can put it in a sandwich, salad or mash up and use. It will be soft and delicious! I add it warm to my tacos/wraps/ taco salads or even as a side dish (sort of like avocado fries)! Never waste an avocado! 😋👍
I’m going to make a clip out of “do not touch my sewing scissors". I know a few people that need to see that! 😮
"Another layer of love"....i love that so much!
WOW! Thank you. I have always just composted the spent jamaica blossoms!
Aghh I love when you make anything related to Mexico. Viva la Jamaica 💗
As a general tip for making jamaica tacos, you can make a second batch of infused water, this will also help to get a more meat-like texture
TIP:
If you don’t like the strong scent/taste of onion … after cutting run under cold water! It works!
Wish I could take credit but this came from #CafeHailee! ❤❤❤
6:40 Tony the Tiger "Greeeeat!" lol
I made mocktails a few weeks ago with hibiscus agua fresca, peach sparkling water, and lots of lime and they were the perfect summer sipping drink for sober girlies! So refreshing. Hibiscus lemonade is also a favorite of mine
ok, so what does the cooked flower taste like? You described everything except that!
Cranberry
Saaaaame
haha i was just thinking that! what was the texture of the flower in the taco?
@@chibom0nslightly meaty, you really have something to bite into there but the taste is tangy fruity and complex
I buy dried hibiscus flowers at one of our regional grocery stores (Trader Joe's used to sell them too) and they are the most like dried cranberries in taste and texture. I eat them like I would dried fruit. You can also find them jarred in syrup in places like BevMo.
Still keeping things fun, always a delightful and delicious experience watching your videos. Thanks for the out of the box experiences you add to the kitchen culinary itinerary.
I definitely want to try these recipes. Not only it probably tastes good, but also has health benefits to drink the infusion and eat the flowers.
It is said reducing blood pressure and blood sugar and contains a lot of antocyans.
Pro tip of eating Jamaica tacos is guisar la jamaica with aromatics and then mix in mole poblano sauce. Also make sure you soak the jamaica a long time to make the texture like shredded chicken.
Emmy you are so awesome! Thank you for making such great videos ❤
Awesome as always thanks ❤
Hibiscus tea is great served hot too.
my algorithm almost forgot about you. I'm so happy I found your channel again. you're cool and fun.
Zucchini blossom quesadillas are delicious!
Thank you for sharing that most unusual taco.
Cheers!!! 😊❤
Make the chile salsa that’s made with the flowers leftover from making the agua de jamaica. I first saw it in Michoacan Mexico
Omg I LOVE sorrel. Here in Trinidad we use it to make a Christmas beverage. The process similar to what you did minus the lime add spices (cinnamon bark and clove). Then it's either left to ferment for a few days or spiked with alcohol. Yummmm. 🤤 Christmas is not complete without sorrel. Everyone's grandma has their own recipe but it's all equally delicious. 🥰🥰🥰
I never knew of using the flowers post boiling though. Can't believe I've been wasting them all these years.
In Mexico, there are also tacos made of the zuchinni flower, tacos de de flor de calabaza.
Jamaica is rich in iron but very diuretic.
Ive done these!! Loved the texture and flavor
Fan-stinkin’-tastic love those Emmyisms!
i loveee agua de jamaica
I APPRECIATELY her ability to make everything wonderful
Yeah. I've made these. They are delicious. My family is from El Salvador but my husband is Mexican. You made them well. You get an "agua" juice AND tacos. Win win.
You’ll be amazed at the number of flowers that are eaten in Latin America - squash flowers, flor de isote, rose petals, the petals of certain cacti and many others
Such an interesting video. I love all your content but this one really caught my eye bc I'm into hibiscus right now. In fact I'm making a hibiscus - strawberry wine. I'm super excited to see how it turns out. Enjoy your channel!
Hi Emmy, thank you for this amazing video!!!
As a born and raised Mexican (and taco lover) I have to say I've never heard about Jamaica tacos before, but now I am determined to try them out, they look delicious!!
Thank you for always sharing amazing food from different cultures and countries😊
I was definitely thinking cocktail when you were describing the drink so I'm glad you mentioned it in the post script!
The best aqua fresca is when you don't add sugar, but brandy, and maybe lime. Have it really cold. You can't taste alcohol, but it definitely get you there - like a Long Island Tea 😁 I add 1-2 shots to a tall glass, and people love it.
PS, to the jamaica water, we boil it for a while, but that is too concentrated or tart like you said, so we add water to that, and then, we add sugar.
Also, I would've let them boil twice as much because they get VERY tender, otherwise they're dry. I've also made marmalade out of it. Pretty much tastes like strawberry!
I love a good pair of kitchen shears too! I had to get a new pair recently because the ones we had for over 20 years finally broke. They’re wonderful for snipping green onions and herbs in a hurry. ✂️ 🌿
I love hibiscus flowers. Yummy
Thank you for the video!👍
I love Jamaica it's soooo refreshing in the summer but I drink iit all year 'round YUM 😜💙
We will always support you. Keep working hard
I love your videos ❤
I like using Hibiscus, Rooibos and Lemon Juice and zest together. A really tasty tea.
Hibiscus iced tea is a summer staple for me.
I need to try this, yummy
Great recipe, I used to do this when I was a vegan, I would add mushrooms and spinach too
I would eat 10 of those. Love your show Emmy!!!
I LOVE YOU EMMY ❤🎉❤🎉
Not Emmy giving us a recipe for aguas locas at the end of the video 😂
Omg delicious!!
Lol, I can very much relate to the sewing scissors comment.
I made hibiscus tea for my farmer's market stall last year, and it was a hit! Can attest it makes a wonderful adult beverage! Tequila or rum and a bubbly mixer- yummy!!
In Oaxaca Mexico they mix it with a smokey mezcal. It’s amazing!
Emmy, I love the idea of using the flowers two ways! Making the most of one ingredient :)
Can you let us know a little bit more about the texture and flavor of the fruit in the taco, though?
Is it a sour-(dried-)fruity filling or does the flavor of the fruit end up in the liquid? I really can't imagine at all what the cooked flowers would taste like!
Oooh I’m definitely trying this out! And probably gonna cook the Jamaica with some pork 😋
I totally relate to the scissors lol.. I have my kitchen scissors, wrapping scissors, office scissors and sewing scissors Do not touch or move them lol :)
So happy to learn you, of all people, love raw onion as garnish! I always feel like my love for oocasional raw onion prooves that my taste buds are dead from eating so much ramen and potato chips in childhood😂
I was introduced to hibiscus tacos at a South American restaurant in Delaware Florida. I loved these so much I had to reverse engineer them at home to relieve my cravings!!❤ I love hibiscus in cooking.
I enjoyed that one😊
That's in interesting way to prepare it. In my Caribbean culture, sorrel is used as a drink around Christmas time. It's boiled with spices, then sweetened and enjoyed with or without rum and bitters. You should try it sometime.
I was recently introduced to Jamaica aqua fresca from a Mexican restaurant near by. I’m obsessed!! (&& funny you said that about the sewing scissors! My mom would say the same thing with the same evil look in her eye! LOL)
Flor de Jamaica
Hibiscus flower 🌺
Thanks for sharing! I grew u 13:37 p drinking aguas frescas of all kinds, including flor de jamaica. But never knew you could cook with them. I have to try those tacos!
(I’m substituting chopped serrano peppers for the ones you used, I don’t like the taste of them.)
I’m so excited! Then I’ll share the recipe with my cousin. 😅
I always make my hibiscus tea with ginger and cinnamon. By itself hibiscus is a little too one dimensional. Oh and this combo makes a great start to sangria.
I just had some last week!
Watching Emmy’s videos are worth the hassle of seeing Stearn’s and Fosters ads every 30 seconds ❤
🧡
@emmymade Was it a little sandy? Before I make the water(aguafresca) or the tacos, I shake and rinse in cold water until the water is clear, and I don't see sand at the bottom of the bowl and than proceed.
Looked like grape Koolaide lol! You post are always so interesting and educational. Thank you.
I am craving that drink
Merle needs to try this.😊
I love karkade, i found out there's also the white one, it's more delicate than the red karkade although I prefer the red one very floral, soursweet and slightly tangy at the same time 🤩
emmy living her best life
I bet thay drink would be nice eighth a bit or southern comfort or a spiced rum! Sounds yummy
My bf once borrowed (without asking) my gingher dress shears and pinking shears to cut up photo paper for a project he was doing. I was so mad!
First time seeing “Evil Emmy”! I love it 😂 #donttouchmysewingscissors
Omg I just made exactly this a few days ago 😱
NOTE TO SELF! do not touch Emmy's sowing scissors. 😂
I was going to say something about using dandelion & burdock to make drinks over here in the UK, but that's actually made using their roots, and is very similar to root beer over there, so, I'll shut up and continue watching now... :P
My mom was the same way with her sewing scissors.
Try making drinks with purple shiso leaves. So good.
Your apron and shirt are giving off watermelon vibes and the mic is the seed LOL enjoy watching you
If you need to soften your avocado- place it in lowest setting oven - place for an hour check them!
When I accidentally cut into a hard Avocado I like to ferment or pickle it, it's great. Or roast or bake it but I tend to find it a bit bitter.
More hibiscus 🌺 recipes please I can do a few things with hibiscus and I'm always looking to expand my abilities
Absolutely love this video and there are so many other ways you can cook with flowers to I hope you get to delve into that someday
Have you made corn tortillas? This taco looked yummy
I would have squeezed some of that lime into the taco.
This seems like it would be delicious. My only experience with hibiscus flowers is Red Zinger tea by Celestial Seasonings. I drank that tea growing up, and found out, as an adult, that hibiscus is the first ingredient in the blend. "Who snagged the Nutella?"
✂️ SAME!😂
