  • Welcome to this review of the MG ZS. The British brands latest small Crossover the ZS. This crossover offers a huge amount of car for the money. With a class leading boot and rear space this is an extremely practical car for its size.
    Powered by a 1.5 litre petrol engine, the same as what you get in the MG 3, it feels more suited to the ZS than the nippy hatchback. The 1.5 is only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
    There is also a 1.0 litre Turbo charged engine available with an Automatic available too.

      Credit where it is due. I have had a test drive in the zs exclusive and excite both really good but the hs looks amazing as well so I am hoping to have a test drive in that over Xmas.

    At LAST a balanced unbiased review on an MG SUV!!! Just bought one of these Exclusive models all the customer reviews have been excellent, whilst the "experts" so called have been totally biased in the negative

    I bought am MG ZS Exclusive in March, have to say its a cracking car for the money. Have it in dynamic red and have a ceramic coating on it. Looks so much more expensive than the price suggests . My MPG is, wait for it 60 MPH give or take. I do drive eco style and as an HGV driver and advanced driving courses, i do think ahead and with my light foot means a lot of fuel saved.

      That’s interesting to hear, Joe. I’m a professional driver too and am pleased to hear how much you can get out of this car. It would be interesting to learn what the 1.0 litre can do. A lot will depend on how “savvy” the gearbox programming is! I currently run a well looked after Fiat Stilo Dynamic 1.7 litre turbo which averages 52 mpg and can do 60 mpg at a steady 60 mph with a following wind! I’m thinking up bulking up to a crossover or SUV and like to get my monies worth without paying for too many gimmicks.

      Update
      I traded it in for a new Honda Civic 1.0 SR. Due to not being happy with MG dealer and i got bored with the generic SUV looks .Because of Covid, dealers had a back log of cars, due to being closed for 4 months. I used carwow and got the Civic for £17500 , basically same price as the ZS . Engine is the best 1.0 on the market, kit much more than the ZS exclusive boot space near on the same . The quality, refinement and the way the car feels when driving is much more premium . Road handling, no body roll and just a pleasure to drive and loves to be chucked in to the corners. The gear box is the best i ever used, that gets mentioned a lot in reviews . Plus it just looks the bomb in rally red . Infotainment, comes with dab, satnav, apple car play and android Auto .
      Out of the two cars there no comparison and its the car i wanted, but before covid was out of my price range

    Informative video, thanks a lot. I've checked here in Cairo many competitors and can finally confirm: The ZS is the best in price-performance -ratio. My next car will be in 2 month a ZS lux in "mountain - white". I'd a lot of doubts because it's a Chinese car, but a 6-year warranty or 150.000km and the test drive convinced me as critical German that's the ZS is the right decision.

    I test drove the 1.0 litre ZS auto and it was again very surprising. It was smooth and had some decent oomph, it just got on with it.
    Good review, your looking at the MG products in all the right ways.
    I have an older mg3 as if now and as I've been using non turbo engines for awhile the 1.5 does ok, just gotta take it by the scruff of the neck once and awhile and it's pretty fun. For the money I cant fault it second hand bargain.
    But the 1.0 turbo would be amazing in the mg3 hopefully they do it soon.

    • @AutoBears
      @AutoBears  4 года назад +1

      I agree I like the idea of the 1.0T being put into the MG3. It just has to be profitable for MG in the long term.

    Go on do the 1.0L review mate :)
    It's actually the same 1.0L GM engine in the Vauxhall Astra. Shame MG are only giving the option for automatic. But with cars going electric and hybrid manuals will most likely end up being a thing of the past.

    • @AutoBears
      @AutoBears  4 года назад

      Cruel Britannia I’ll ask MG for the 1.0 L. See what I can do for you. I’ll also look into the EV.

      Andrew K. NI thank you for your comment. There are plans for a 2 seater sports car along with the eZS. I am aware that a larger SUV has been made but not sure if it’s coming to the UK.

    I have a MG ZS, eight faults from new within first 4/5 months, some faults still exist now, MG will not accept / repair these faults, although they prompt a 7 year warranty, was hoping for a lot more from the MG brand - very disappointed

    You got to be joking? That 1.5 engine is terrible. It's got 1 bit of power to overtake and struggles up a bank. I took my mgzs straight back to dealership. Bring back the old mgzs 180
