I don't know if there are documentaries of this, but a really interesting topic is the story of "Salvatore Borsellino" and "Giovanni falcone" they were two magistrates that fought against mafia until they were assassinated in really brutal ways.

The Corleone family (Totò riina, Bernardo provenzano, leoluca bagarella, pino greco ecc..) blew up Falcone with 500 kg of tritol with the help of the Secret Service. Shortly after Borsellino was killed in the same way, under his mother's house....

The "official" name of the sicilian mafia is "Cosa Nostra" which literally means "our thing". The mafiosi themselves named the organization that way. Then there are the neapolitan mafia which is called "camorra" the calabrese one called "'ndrangheta" and also another organization from the Puglia region called "Sacra Corona Unita" (sacred united crown).

Really apreciate the man in the videoof today's reaction, have a nice pronounce of italian names and words along with a very informative and interesting way of telling.
And of corse, your commentary is also really apreciated as well, to not mention is cool to see more people learning about Italy, and not just the funny or pretty side.

Most of the times there's a lot of gaps and grey areas because mafiosi both outside or inside the bureaucratic system try to hide stuff from the public. That's why it's hard to find information sometimes

Makes sense that’s why a lot of people have different stories about mafia because most of it is “hear say” unless you have a mafia whistle blower

A group of "unnamed" volunteers was set up by a part of the Italian judiciary to hunt down Totò Riina. The other part of the Sicilian judiciary, on the other hand, did everything to hinder them. The leader of this group was an anonymous captain of the carabinieri, and he called himself with a code name: Last.
The other boys were: Archer, Shadow, Viking, Sitting Bull, Tienanmen.
Last, until 25 May 2000 he was a man without a face, without an identity. If he had to testify in a court of law he would cover himself with a hood, if he had to take a plane they would choose his invented name and surname. For everyone he was Ultimo, the enemy of the mafia.
His weapon had always protected him, while bearing his impetuous character with some difficulty, his ways certainly unrelated to the discipline of an armed force. That day Ultimo understood that the end had come. A twenty-line communiqué dictated to news agencies by the Carabinieri General Command rejected his accusations of having been "left alone and without means" to fight the gangs.
For many months they made environmental recordings of the area where they suspected Riina lived. Tracking. I remind you that many knew that the most wanted Boss in Sicily lived in that area, even the judiciary, but no one was going to get him. He even went around freely by car in Palermo until Ultimo and his boys blocked him by cutting him off with a van. Last pinned him tightening his neck with his scarf. Handcuffed, thrown in the van and taken to the courthouse.
In that note, the major Sergio De Caprio was named three times. "The weapon breaks the silence", headlined the newspapers. The legendary Captain Ultimo was now one of many. His battle to continue fighting the mafia as he had always done had been stopped.
The man, who after capturing Totò Riina dreamed of being able to take Bernardo Provenzano too, was forced to surrender. The detectives who had spent days and nights with him chasing the leader of the mafia had almost all been assigned to new positions. Go Arciere, go Ombra, go all, one after the other.
After his identity was revealed, Major Sergio De Caprio was sentenced to death by Riina's mafia family, and he always had to live in secret, with his face half covered in order not to be recognized and always accompanied by the escort.
Several films and a television series have been shot on the fascinating story of Captain Last.
Even today he has to live in hiding. When the mafia sentences you to death it does not have an end, it is forever.
This is the story of the Crimor section of Ultimo, told by Captain Ultimo and his boys. Still all with their faces covered, except Omar. As soon as I have time I will put English subtitles on it. Although in Italian the images of the video are very strong.
    ruclips.net/video/M1gNxcuaZkc/видео.html
This is Captain Ultimo's Facebook page, now retired, but he still helps street children by creating an association called Captain Ultimo's Volunteers and a Family Home.

Basically Cosa Nostra was in Palermo. Riina and Liggio were a Clan from Corleone, but them were under no big group such as Cosa Nostra. Then the Corleone group and Palermo's Cosa Nostra started to collaborate but Riina decided to kill all the bosses from Cosa Nostra and became the Leader of the "new" Mafia.

    • @pippopino6948
      @pippopino6948 3 года назад +1

this guy's comment is incorrect, they were all from Cosa Nostra, Cosa Nostra (the Sicilian Mafia) Is made up of several families (Clans) each family controls a different territory in sicily ... Riina belonged to the "Corleonesi" the family in control of Corleone (which was a small country village) while the "Palermitani" (the most powerful family) controlled the city of Palermo (which is the most important city in Sicily) all the families used to follow the "policy" dictated by the council (made up of various families representatives) the council's task was also to pacify in case there were clashes between the families or within a single family, usually through diplomacy, openly supporting this or that boss, or when diplomacy failed by removing the "bad apples" approving the murder of this or that boss, when Riina and liggio took power in corleone by killing the old boss of the family without the council permission, they hid fearing retaliation from the council, they come out only after having treated and obtained the favor of the council, at the time Corleone was a Little country Village inhabited by poor peasants so the council had no real interest in who controlled it, this until the Corleonesi started trafficking in drugs (which at the time was frowned upon by the council) this with time created two sides, the Corleonesi and their allies (who got rich and powerful trafficking drugs and obviously wanted to continue doing so) against the Palermitani and their allies (who controlled finance, commerce and above all gambling, they already had found drug trafficking harmful for their business, eventually they had every interest in blocking the rise of the Corleonesi who from a small country family with no power as they were, become so powerful that they managed to control the council that despite initial opposition was manipulated through alliances, murders, blackmail and corruption to approve everything the Corleonesi wanted to do) so the first mafia war began... (a sort of civil war within "Cosa Nostra") the other Italian mafias (like the Camorra in campania and ndrangheta in calabria) are different from the Sicilian one, like the Russian mafia is different from the Chinese one or the Japanese). The word "Mafia" Is the 1st name Cosa Nostra had, (or at least Is the name they had according to an old sicilian Legend about the founding of the mafia) some Say they changed It in Cosa Nostra to Stand out from the Others when the name became generic

12:07 there were war between "Cosa Nostra", the Sicilian mafia. For control Palermo province and all the business this city could give them. They were from Corleone, a poor town in the mountains, so they were pushed by "The Hungry" of the poorness. 'Ndrangheta or camorra were really weak at that time, only Cosa Nostra was strong enough. (in fact Cosa Nostra declared war also to the Italian State for some years 😂😅

    • @ElderSwamp

12:07 was a war only between different clans of Cosa Nostra, an inner war in Sicily for the control of Palermo and provinces around ***

The Mafia is a criminal association.
It has a lot of subgroups:
Camorra, the most strong subgroup of Mafia, born and based in Napoli (the city of pizza and Vele Di Scampia).
Ndrangheta, one of the most strong subgroup of Mafia, born and based in Calabria, a region near Sicily.
Cosa Nostra, another one of the most strong subgroup of Mafia, is so famous, born and based in Sicily.
Santa Corona Unita, another subgroup of Mafia, born and based in Puglia, a region near Campania, the region of Napoli.
I tell you the most strong and famous subgroup of Mafia, but there are other group.
Mafia born in South Italy like him subgroup, but now the Mafia based everywhere in Italy.
For this problem, in South Italy "born" so many baby gang or gang for the bad life, because the Mafia (and him subgroup) based also in the palaces where the people live, and is so easy meet the Mafia if you're not careful.
I live in a palace of a neighborhood of a suburb of Napoli, here there are a lot of commercial drug, Camorra, gun, economic problems, so many Sex Workers and other problems.
Big up Fibre and sorry for my bad english🙏❤

I really suggest you a wonderfull film about all his story, is called "IL Capo dei Capi"(The Boss of all bosses) and I think you can fin it with subtitles here in YT. Anyway, this film is really wonderfull, you should watch it :) it's divided in three parts and speak about all the kills and also all the brutal and last part of Riina ruling (like the declared war against the State) that this video miss. Good reaction.. See ya next time :)

If you want for you ruclips.net/video/A6EOJr4Mc0E/видео.html. It a really short video but it's good and a nice introduction for foreign about Mafia's dangers. It's just a little lesson and it's through European eyes so maybe is a little more interesting for you, they talk in general but it's true. The death of Borsellino and Falcone, Chinnici and Dalla Chiesa are important for Italy history and all the victim I did not name. On the internet there are their interviews but I don't know if there are sub in eng. Falcone cooperated with the FBI for years about the mafia in America. Sorry if I sound bad but I think good documentaries about the mafia are generally in Italian so maybe try that side of RUclips, it seems to me they are less cinematic than the foreign counterpart and talk about mafia like is more real and not an idea of some filmmaker😅. "La mafia uccide solo d'estate" both the movie and the series are good and more lighter than "Gomorra" but you need a little Italian history to understand them. They are good recommendations but idem I'm not sure they have eng sub...sorry.
Nobody could be like Riina if they don't want to so don't fall into the trap of "it was the only way to survive" please..🙏
On the other side. Did you know what Calcio Storico is?😁
Sorry for taking your time, have a good day and stay safe!
