I cannot express how much I appreciate this video. For years I’ve been trying to make my curly hair work for me without looking off or completely out of sync with the rest of my body or style. You can’t change your curl pattern but I’ll definitely look into getting a haircut soon (I’m a romantic). Thank you!
Same body type here. 2c hair with lots of ringlets. I get my hair cut with very deep, round layers. I have the shortest layer stop at about the bottom of my nose and the longest a bit below my shoulders. It creates a really great shape. 💗
Hi! As a romantic body type woman recovering from disordered eating, I want to thank you from my heart. I just found your channel and watched many videos and finally I understand why I don't look good in clothes made for more angular boned women. I feel like embracing my body, you are respectful and kind. Normally I would feel ashamed for not being skinny when I try to investigate about styles and clothing, but with your channel I don't feel that way at all. Thank you, I send you a hug
Thank you this is a beautiful comment. I am so pleased that this is the impact my channel is having, this means the world. I wish you the best of luck with your recovery!
im in the exact same boat, and i really feel you. for so long i felt so ashamed of myself for being round and no matter what it wouldnt change, and im going through a slow recovery. after discovering romantic, and other romantic women and styles and these things, I’ve ever felt so confident in my body. being proud of the things I couldn’t change about myself, thinking they’re what makes me different and working around it, I’ve found them very beautiful. Being called delicate, and ‘round’ being a positive thing instead of negative, has really changed my life. you are not alone on this journey, and im cheering you on! and thank you to this channel and this community :)
💛 Yes!!! Couldn’t agree more. I had the misfortune of being an impressionable teenager during the height of the “heroin chic” era 💀 which seriously impacted my self esteem and body image. No amount of weight loss could ever make me the Dramatic body type that was (and still is to a degree) pushed in the pop-culture. Wish I had this understanding back then but better late than never! 😅
I have to say some of these suggestions for certain body types aren't practical for people who don't have wavy hair but are squarely in the curly or textured category. I do appreciate the concept of the overall shape. I'd recommend Frani Matthews or Merriam's videos if you are in those categories of 3B to textured hair.
Same, I'm either FG or DC, I love geomatrical and sharp shapes on me, and there goes my thick, heavy curly hair so... i almost always wear it in a tight bun at the top of my head. :/ plus I have small face and small flat forehead, so I don't look good when it hides my face even a bit. I suspect I may be FG so next year I'll go pixie and see how it works for me
I feel this so deeply-- I discovered kibbe around the same time rhat my hair went from barely wavy to suddenly being twice as curly -I had no idea what to do with the change -I had to relearn how to treat my hair as well as ended up relearning how to dress. I love floral prints and 50s style but now if I wear my hair down I find I look cartoonish in those clothes and instead I need to wear more sharp/Yang clothes in order to look balanced.
I’m pretty sure I’m theatrical romantic and can attest to this video being true for me at least. I LOVE. Like, I mean, LOOOOOVE big, wild looking curls. It’s just gorgeous. Princess Merida is hair goals in my mind. Oh the times I’ve tried to pull the wild look off… but it just looks extremely messy on me. Not in that powerful, ethereal sort of way, just plain “I curled my hair yesterday, partied all night and forgot to brush it this morning”. Very, very unflattering. Lush, long, soft, shiny curls look way better. Oh, and the side-part part is true too. Middle part looks a bit harsh, side-part looks pretty. Side bangs too!
Omg same haha I always loved Merida’s hair but when I tried it I looked like tingle tangle Bob from the Simpson’s hahah - but then I started getting a bit into vintage fashion and oh my, these set curls make me look so fricking sexy
Bless you for this! I am a dramatic with classic essence, but I have poufy, frizz-prone voluminous 2c/3a hair naturally lol. I hate working against my natural texture, but I find that the best way to style my curls is to smooth down the top and tame the ringlets a bit. I use a lot of product! A curly bob is one of my favorite looks.
I struggle with some of these suggestions as someone who has naturally very curly hair. The weather gets to choose my style more than I. As much as I cannot choose my body type nor can I choose my hair style, which has become just as much who I am as any other part of my being. Fortunately I think I maybe a soft natural. And when all else fails a hat or scarf can do wonders to improve the overall look.
I’m a soft dramatic with a natural Fro that I just can’t get rid of! I can straighten my hair all the time and curl it i feel like you should go into more detail for natural haired girls
Agreed - soft dramatic with 2C/3A hair - frizzy, curly/wavy, wild - I feel the suggested hairstyles for the body types don’t take peoples’ natural hair textures into account at all. How do you look your best if your natural texture doesn’t “suit” your body type? Bummer if we don’t want to hear style or roller set all the time.
This was super helpful, thank you! I have always struggled with my naturally curly hair and why the same thing looked so good on other people but so *messy* on me. As a soft classic, I'm kind of bummed, but now I see why. I now understand why my natural hair looks best when I put it up (tamed and rounded) 😅
Thank u so so much for this video! Could you continue the series "Making an effect" with how to look elegant or put together according to your body type and essence? That would be very helpful! I'm a theatrical romantic with ingenue essence and is hard for me to find clothes that make look like the adult I am, without looking too rigid or like a child trying someone else's clothes. You are the best!
I bought a curler to make big curls yesterday because, although I wasn't sure, I thought that I would look better than with smaller curls. I'm a soft dramatic, I'm glad that my intuition was right 😊
Ugh, as a Classic with natural curly hair this is so true. It is very hard to find a good way to wear my hair that doesn't just look disheveled. I refuse to heat style my hair though, so I just perpetually look bad 😂
I've never heard about this body types topic until I got one of your shorts and I have absolutely no idea in which type I fall lol Looks like I'm gonna have to do more research but as a curly girl I appreciate this video!
Giving a like before the video even starts! Thank you for addressing curly hair and the Body types. I just asked another Body Type content creator about this last month. They haven't given any real advice.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this. I think that not knowing what kind of haircuts or hairstyles work for your face or body for curly hair is part of the reason why so many of us want to keep our hair straight. Some curly hairstyles just don't look good on me, and I have curly hair myself.
I always love that you do videos like these that include ways on how to make curls work for your body type as opposed to other sources that I've seen that are just "if you are (blank), then you can't ever have or wear (blank)". It's been great to see how I can achieve certain styles that appeal to my aesthetic while also being harmonious with my body type :)
oMG this makes so much sense...i'm a soft classic (i'm pretty sure), and when my curls (which are 2c-3a) are messy, my whole look becomes frumpy! especially if my outfit is more relaxed. i've realized that if i get my hair in check, it REALLY boosts my whole look : )
Great! I'm a soft gamine and I've noticed that with some soft and unstructures waves I might look better. I would love a similar video with straight haircuts. 🤩
I love all your videos. I am a SD and curls just grow out of my head but not like the pictures you showed. I understand what you said and for years my hair didn't and doesn't match my body so many bad haircuts. Thank you for this video it really helps but I need a few more pictures for the SD look please 😭
Not sure what texture your curls are, but if they're similar to the adorable baby pic in your avatar you might want to look at DCs Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Phylicia Rashad, and Samantha Logan.
You won't believe it but just yesterday I was wondering if curls would suit me cuz I really like them but my natural hair is just straight with a bit of a wave. And here you are! Uploaded not even an hour ago! I'll probably make a good forecaster 😩🙌
I'm Soft Classic with 3B curly hair, the struggle is real. To help the girls in the same situation as me, here are some tips: - I like to wear my hair parted in the middle with both front pieces behind my ears; - My hair is usually long so the weight of the hair will keep it down; - I wear it in pleace, don't throw it to the sides too much or it will look frizzy and break our classic charm; - Don't over wet your hair so it doesn't look glued on your head, and don't move it too much because of the frizz, choose the side you want your hair and leave it like this.; - After you wash your hair use the leave in and DON'T press your curls shrinking them; - Make sure that you don't put too much hair behind your ears or they will look bigger, you can use a tiara or hair band to help; - Another good hair style is when you take the front pieces and tie it behind your head, it looks good too; - Braids are our best friend; - Other than that I use it entirely tied in a low bun or low ponytail. Hope my tips were helpful.
Thank you so much! I'm a soft classic and I didn't know how to make my hair look better since classics are more "put together" and curly hair is hard to style.
I'm flamboyant natural (with what i believe to be some type of gamine essence) i love vintage fashion and for some reason whatever i do with my hair i either end up looking like a 70s rocker or like a glamorous 80s secretary, so i gave in and did a wet set based on a 1989 infomercial and i've never had so many genuine compliments on my hair some assumed it was my natural texture
This make a lot of sense 🤔 I have naturally straight hair, a little wave sometimes or made with a bun. The best straight haircuts for every bodytype is interesting, too 🤗
I was born with curly hair & absolutely adore it! Love love love your channel!!!! I've learnt alot about my style & how to dress ❤ Happy Fourth of July! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I've been a fan for a little while but I'm so glad you made this video! (ignore the username it's a meme lol) I've always felt my curls were beautiful but that they didn't compliment my face. I've never seen someone address this kind of thing before, it was super helpful.
Very detailed video! I love how you break things down. How do these recommendations interact with the ethereal essence? I have very strong ethereal essence to the point where no kibbe recommendations ever looked quite right on me until I learned about ethereal, and then it fell into place. I have naturally wavy-slightly curly hair and would love to learn how to best showcase it
I’m a dramatic classic with curly hair naturally and i can confirm short- non poofy hair looks good on dramatic classics. I look dead when my hair is too poofed up or long
I wish you used or have shown examples of ladies who have really curly hair, not wavy, for each of the IDs. Girls who have 3B - 4D curl pattern can hardly relate to the examples you have given.
Just shows how you can't win with a RUclips channel. There's always someone who is going to complain instead of just finding a channel by someone who has the features they are wondering about.
@@elliejeanroyden I know. The thing is everyone keeps using the same ladies as examples, so there's no real diversity, and women with actually curly hair are left helpless. Most of the women from the video have straight hair, and they curl it on occasion, while majority of curly women are looking for real advice on how to style and which haircuts to look for for their specific type of curls. I know it can be difficult to find all the examples, and I appreciate the effort you made to create this video, so I hope my words don't read as harsh (wasn't my intention). It's just that we, curly girls, always feel left aside. ♥️
I was wondering for a long time if I'm a Flamboyant natural or Dramatic classic and this video is making it easier - I think I'm Flamboyant natural... just not very tall. :) Thank you for your amazing content.
Thanks for this video. I'm a black woman with short dreadlocs but my Kibbe type is theatrical romantic. I still found this video useful and I appreciate you trying to use a diverse group of women!
@@elliejeanroyden 😁 but lately I've started to wonder if i'm maybe a soft natural and not a romantic couse of the broadnes in me🤔 need to think about it before I do the perm 😅
Im a FG with naturally wavy hair but I prefer to wear it straight (buzzed sides with a choppy crown & fringe). My frame is quite sharp and I feel like straight hair compliments it more-it also works better with my personal style. But in the past when I did wear my hair natural, it was in a short and spunky bob style, which I find works really well for FG’s.
This was so interesting, i love curly hair and since my hair is natural I know it fits me well lol. I think Im dramatic classic and have my curls in a Bob 💜
Such a great video! I'm a flamboyant natural and have naturally curly hair which (you're right) looks best when tousled and unruly. However, based on this vid, I think I might re-evaluate my hair length, or at least the overall shape. Thanks for the great info, you presented it really well! 💖
Thank you so much for making this I love the way you talk about the types and the ways they can work with or against their style. This really helps me figure out what to do next with my curls.
For my fellow natural curlies reading this, if you're a dramatic or otherwise yang heavy and can't rock the floof, I bet long, protective styles would look killer on you! And you could choose the twist or braid size based on your best pattern size maybe 🤔 And of course these can probably work for other types too depending on how they're styled (as in up do's) A buzz is also an option. Or a half buzz or mohawk on shorter curls to show off your bone structure and curls at the same time, especially for a gamine who needs asymmetry. I've been considering that last one for myself as an FG 😅
I have wavy hair and depending on how it’s combed, cut and products it can vary in looks. I tried many forms but in the end for my face shape having fluffy mid length blunt hair with less product looks better in me then going full power curl routine with a defined ringlets. I think it took years of trying things before I realized it. There wasn’t content like this when I was trying to figure it out
Being Soft Classic and waking up looking like a troll, if I forget to prepare my hair properly for bed the day before. All always have a comb with me to work to keep flyaways at bay. I mostly try to keep my hair in a 40 or 50s inspired style which is very flattering, finding this this style has helped me liking my hair.
Love your videos ! 💚 Would you say Victoria Pedretti is a Romantic type ? I've been wondering while watching Bly Manor and the 80s fashion and curly type of hair on her.
So out of curiosity is there going to be any examples of "natural" curls and coil patterns for every type? I can't help but feel a little left out here as a soft natural with 3c hair...
This was so interesting! Could you do a video like this but for straight hair? I'm pretty sure I'm a romantic body type but I have naturally pin straight hair that is really difficult to curl so most suggested romantic styles are just not practical for day to day wear.
I am a TR with unruly curly hair. I need to try to keep them neat but it's nearly impossible with my curl pattern. Which tends to uglify me. My solutions: side part or the few locks at the front tied back. I don't feel I have too many options.
How about how to make our NATURAL curls work for us? I'm not putting hair curlers or sumn in my hair, I wash n dry and have me some tight spirals mixed with thick waves I'm either a theatrical romantic or soft gamine, I feel I fall between the two
Oh my! Just in time, I've been thinking about curly hair for some time especially since my friends proposed the idea since my hair is curly-ish already
I’m a dramatic classic but I always doubt it when it comes to hairstyles. I had a glow-up when I got bangs and my hair is naturally wavy, I always style it in a neat way but for a long time I thought classics couldn’t have wavy hair
I would love to see any SDs with short curly (at least 3a type) hair. I wear a curly triangular bob and I’m 90% sure I’m a SD, while I’ve worn long blown hair with waves at the beginning and curls at the end, this is the cut that everyone compliments on me.
What about Ethereals and Ingenues (Kitchener system)? 💖🙏 As a very dominant Ethereal and secondary Ingenue, I don’t fit any of the Kibbe categories you mention here! 🙈
Totally agree with classics and curls are not going so good together 😄 I am a dramatic classic and I curl my hair more in a wavy way with straight ends. Too curly looks odd and I feel like am man with a curly wig 😅
I have naturally curly hair. As a classic, I tend to wear my hair pulled back and up because the fly aways and "messiness" of my hair makes me look blah. 🙃 It's a difficult conundrum to solve.
The same advice applies, so the outline of your hair should be large and rounded, forget about each curl and focus on the outside shape of your hair! ♥️
I have a hard time trying to find what kind of face am I haha, I have natural curly hair, just trying to find the best haircut for my face shape. Im the girl in my profile pic btw. Your channel is helping me a lot but I feel that I have a long way to learn
I cannot express how much I appreciate this video. For years I’ve been trying to make my curly hair work for me without looking off or completely out of sync with the rest of my body or style. You can’t change your curl pattern but I’ll definitely look into getting a haircut soon (I’m a romantic). Thank you!
OMG same 😭 it took a alot of experimenting to get there! I am glad you found it
How are you going to cut it?
Same body type here. 2c hair with lots of ringlets. I get my hair cut with very deep, round layers. I have the shortest layer stop at about the bottom of my nose and the longest a bit below my shoulders. It creates a really great shape. 💗

I'm Soft Classic with 3B curly hair, the struggle is real. To help the girls in the same situation as me, here are some tips:
- I like to wear my hair parted in the middle with both front pieces behind my ears;
- My hair is usually long so the weight of the hair will keep it down;
- I wear it in pleace, don't throw it to the sides too much or it will look frizzy and break our classic charm;
- Don't over wet your hair so it doesn't look glued on your head, and don't move it too much because of the frizz, choose the side you want your hair and leave it like this.;
- After you wash your hair use the leave in and DON'T press your curls shrinking them;
- Make sure that you don't put too much hair behind your ears or they will look bigger, you can use a tiara or hair band to help;
- Another good hair style is when you take the front pieces and tie it behind your head, it looks good too;
- Braids are our best friend;
- Other than that I use it entirely tied in a low bun or low ponytail.
Hope my tips were helpful.

I wish you used or have shown examples of ladies who have really curly hair, not wavy, for each of the IDs. Girls who have 3B - 4D curl pattern can hardly relate to the examples you have given.
I really did do my best using Kibbe verified celebrities!
@@anajankovic2523 I'm guessing thr same examples are used over and over on these channels because Kibbes verified list isn't that big.
@@elliejeanroyden An idea: would be cool to select some of your clients or subscribers to show examples!
I was wondering for a long time if I'm a Flamboyant natural or Dramatic classic and this video is making it easier - I think I'm Flamboyant natural... just not very tall. :)
Thank you for your amazing content.
What about Theatrical Romantics with type 4b/4c (afro-kinky-coily) hair? How would we style it?
Thanks for this video. I'm a black woman with short dreadlocs but my Kibbe type is theatrical romantic. I still found this video useful and I appreciate you trying to use a diverse group of women!
Thanks for this! Im thinking about making a perm for some time now and this video is sooo helpful🥳🥳🥳
I am so glad to hear that!!! ♥️
Your curls look amazing from your profile pic!!! Stunniiiing
@@elliejeanroyden thank you so much!!
Can you make a video with haor styles like two strand twist, cornrows, individual braids, mini braid, thing like 👍. I would really love if you do
Such a great video!
I can't believe this video exists
THANK YOU, LIKE, REALLY
OHHHHH. It all makes sense now.
brb. gonna go curl my hair.
For my fellow natural curlies reading this, if you're a dramatic or otherwise yang heavy and can't rock the floof, I bet long, protective styles would look killer on you! And you could choose the twist or braid size based on your best pattern size maybe 🤔 And of course these can probably work for other types too depending on how they're styled (as in up do's)
A buzz is also an option.
There wasn’t content like this when I was trying to figure it out
Just thought about this and boom, you posted this, thank youuu❤️
Aw this is great to hear, thank you!
This video is very accurate and useful as usual!
I’m a theatrical romantic and yes the side part thing is so true
Love your videos ! 💚 Would you say Victoria Pedretti is a Romantic type ? I've been wondering while watching Bly Manor and the 80s fashion and curly type of hair on her.
Now i need to know how to achieve those curls
I thought you were going to talk about natural curly hair, not the babyliss stuff.
love, could you make a video about tattoos for each type? I can't find anything about it):
So out of curiosity is there going to be any examples of "natural" curls and coil patterns for every type? I can't help but feel a little left out here as a soft natural with 3c hair...
This was so interesting! Could you do a video like this but for straight hair? I'm pretty sure I'm a romantic body type but I have naturally pin straight hair that is really difficult to curl so most suggested romantic styles are just not practical for day to day wear.
Thank you for making this! I’ve been looking this type of content 🥰
Thank you so much for this video!!! It's so helpful for me ❤
I am a TR with unruly curly hair. I need to try to keep them neat but it's nearly impossible with my curl pattern. Which tends to uglify me. My solutions: side part or the few locks at the front tied back. I don't feel I have too many options.
I adore this channel
How about how to make our NATURAL curls work for us? I'm not putting hair curlers or sumn in my hair, I wash n dry and have me some tight spirals mixed with thick waves
I'm either a theatrical romantic or soft gamine, I feel I fall between the two
I love your videos so much
Keep up the good work
Oh my! Just in time, I've been thinking about curly hair for some time especially since my friends proposed the idea since my hair is curly-ish already
So exciting! It is always fun to try a new style :)
Interesting and rare topic!
Great video! I think I am a Theatrical Romantic and a side part does look much better on me :)
As someone with spiral curls like what you described for the romantics and is a soft dramatic it’s a damn
These was so good, learnt a lot
Lol u just helped me figure whats best for me..thankyou❤
Also long hair for the body types, please!🌿 (I am a SC and like long hair but also want to look somewhat neat.)
Could you do hairstyles for the body types? I am a FN with really straight hair and would love to hear hairstyles that would look good on my type
AHH YES I NEED THIS!!!! Thank you!!!
What about Ethereals and Ingenues (Kitchener system)? 💖🙏
As a very dominant Ethereal and secondary Ingenue, I don’t fit any of the Kibbe categories you mention here! 🙈
Im a new subscriber!!!! Curly Hairstylist for 25 years… I need to drink in all this knowledge! I want to know what I am
I thank you for your effort in making this video
Totally agree with classics and curls are not going so good together 😄 I am a dramatic classic and I curl my hair more in a wavy way with straight ends. Too curly looks odd and I feel like am man with a curly wig 😅
Soft dramatic, leaning very romantic, born with curls, trying to shape them right, I think asymmetry is sort of a great look for me
A helpful and informative video! Thank you.
Loved this video!!! ❤️ can you do makeup or wedding dresses for the body types? ✨
Kibbe still baffles me. I am only 5'4" I am starting with Soft natural, but so unsure.
I have very big curly afro hair and I'm a soft classic.
Im a classic or dramatic classic and my hair looks best when it is straightend. 👍
I have naturally curly hair. As a classic, I tend to wear my hair pulled back and up because the fly aways and "messiness" of my hair makes me look blah. 🙃 It's a difficult conundrum to solve.
I'm a soft dramatic with naturally tight curls. I'm not open to straightening or applying heat products to my hair. how should I style it?
The same advice applies, so the outline of your hair should be large and rounded, forget about each curl and focus on the outside shape of your hair! ♥️
Your hair is very fine 💞💞
I have a hard time trying to find what kind of face am I haha, I have natural curly hair, just trying to find the best haircut for my face shape. Im the girl in my profile pic btw. Your channel is helping me a lot but I feel that I have a long way to learn
