    I’m tired of people complaining about the price. I bought a 1990 Miata package B brand new when it came out. Window sticker was about $18,500 but lots of dealers marked them up to about $23,000. I just purchased a red 2023 RF grand touring for about $35,500 after discounts. Adjusted for inflation the 1990 MSRP would be over $42,000 in today’s dollars. The amount of equipment, power, refinement, and quality in the 2023 absolutely blows away the 1990. Simply put the 2023 is an incredible bargain and realistically should be priced at about $60,000 compared to the original NA Miata.

    • @Itsdjsigi
      @Itsdjsigi Год назад +1

      Just cause they were being marked up doesn’t mean that’s what they were worth lol, 18,500 brand new compared to 33-35k is a big difference lol especially with the dollar not being worth as much now a days

    • @davidedwards4720
      @davidedwards4720 Год назад +3

      @@Itsdjsigi To be clear, people made way less money in 1990. Miata's were marked up several thousand over list because they were in very high demand. $18,500 from 1990 buys the equivalent of more than $42,000 today! It's not hard to understand. It is the effects of inflation. Today's Miata's are cheaper than the original.

      @@mccortezy Actually there may have been complaining about the markups, but the long wait lists to buy one is strong evidence that there wasn't much complaining about the MSRP. In fact the Miata was viewed as an incredible bargain. It ws listed in Road and Track as one of the five best cars you could possibly buy, and all the others were six figure exotics. Nobody complained about the Miata, which in base models was in the $16,000 range.

    1- Still represents Great Value for money against the more costly competitors in the open topped Sports Car segment
    2- Totally reliable motoring, that for some reason only the Japanese have perfected
    3- Very Cheap to run, and own on a regular basis, with affordable spare parts and so many customisation opportunities
    4- Probably the best driving dynamics of any car, with a six speed manual gear change that is recognised by many, as one of the best in the business
    5- Great looking car, which always rewards the lucky driver with a drive of a lifetime
    6-That incredible wind in your hair experience, and depending on the model you go for, more than enough kit to make owning and driving a joy.
    its no wonder Mazda have sold over 1m of these superb little cars, its motoring at its best

    I'm on my 4th MX-5; 2016, 2017, 2019 and as of a month ago, a 2023 GT. The single thing I was wondering about all of them was why not have a muffler that sounds like a 1960's British sportscar? I've had a Racing Beat Power Pulse on the 1st 3 MX-5's, but I'm switching over to the Goodwin Roadster Street muffler as soon as it's delivered. I"ve been listening to all kinds of sound tracks lately and from those , I've picked the Goodwin muffler, it sounds similar to the 'ol 1960's Austin Healey's when winding out. By the way, again, a good review.

    The Toybaru WOULD BE. valid if you could actually get one, but you can't. I've been looking basically since the car was announced 2 years ago as a replacement for my Fiat Abarth. Every dealer I talked to told me 6-9 months and 3rd or 4th on the waiting list, and no you couldn't test drive one first. If a dealer did have one in stock, like the Atlanta based Toyota dealer my cousin works for, they price gouge that sucker like they'll never be made again. My out the door price for a white GR86 Premium 6spd as of a 8 days ago "WITH THE FRIENDS AND FAMILY DISCOUNT", was $41,950. Y'all that's for a car with a $31k MSRP.

    • @ag4allgood
      @ag4allgood Год назад +3

      @@jadeath128 Its my 1st convertible. So I take care of it. Snow / ice / monsoon rain / sub zero temperatures - no leaks & the AC works well because of the limited space. I don't EVER park under any trees & in hot summer have a Carcraft sunscreen that will last the life of the car. I bought a soft bristle brush & use the 303 Convertible Top Cleaner / Fabric Guard. Every car wash is by hand & that 303 Cleaner gets brushed on & sprayed off. Every fall the 303 fabric guard gets applied with sponge brushes. After 6 years in 4 season weather the top looks like the day I drove it off the dealer lot. Cleaned the top filters 2 times but barely anything in them. The top is really good you just have to take care of it. While the RF is probably the more durable roof it still has the same roof filters so trees are what you want to avoid parking under in any season. I've had feet of snow & ice that I had to dig out of.
      No leaks & the top has done a great job protecting the interior. My winter tires are stacked on a dolley in the garage & change / rotate them myself. Its been a solid car in some of the worst weather I've driven thru in my life. A great car !

    • @jadeath128

      @@ag4allgood Thanks for such a detailed respond! I’m thinking of buying one but not sure about the roof because is really hot in México and I only go to the US in the summer, and if I go to Canada as an exchange student I’m bringing my car with me, so I’m worried about the weathers it can handle if I buy the soft top.

    • @ag4allgood
      @ag4allgood Год назад

      @@jadeath128 Just remember the roof drain system is the same for both ND / ND2 models soft top or RF. Parking under trees is a bad idea soft top or RF. The drains get plugged then the interior will flood until the filters / drain system is cleaned out.

    • @ag4allgood
      @ag4allgood Год назад +1

      @@jadeath128 Yep , I get that. The A/C in my car has worked well on extremely hot / humid days. The interior space is small so its usually a quick process but I have a nice Cover Craft sun screen that helps deflect the rays. Still gets very hot on those days but if I want the A/C its there. The soft top has been durable for me & its nice to have a great all around view when its down. Plus its $3500 to $4500 cheaper than the RF.

    I used to make fun of Miata owners until I test drove one. I paid cash for it right after the test drive....I kept the top down except and night and in heavy rain. It might have been the most fun car that I've ever had. I'm looking at buying a new one. The thing I hated about my na miata was the fact that it was a five speed instead of a six speed always made me annoyed taking it on road trips and such. I'll probably pay the extra for a new one regardless of the money that they cost. Compared to other sports cars worth having the price is much cheaper and I guarantee the maintenance will be cheaper as well. I would recommend this car to anyone that can fit inside of one!

    My main problem with the Miata is that the speedometer is almost impossible to read. They crammed so many numbers into it, like when is the Miata going to go 160 mph? There's a digital screen but for some reason there's no digital speedometer option. There's also a little LCD in the tach to tell you what gear you're in instead of a speedometer which other Mazda's of the same era had. Other than that, the Miata is a pure joy to drive.

    What all the people who compare the brz and the miata seem to leave out is relianility. The gr86 and rhe brz have subaru flat 4 engines. Those will never last as long as or be as easy to service as a miata engine. And when subaru engines go, they GO. I say this from experience owning a wrx that has shat its motor twice. Stay away from flat 4 engines unless you have the money to support one when it breaks

      They've improved a ton since then (research the 2015 + WRX engines), additionally the naturally aspirated BR-Z and GR86 are very easy to work on and also quite proven too. Not as good as the Miata but not something to shit on. Maybe I'll do an actual comparison video sometime.

    • @ROXYshark

      @Realistick that would be an interesting comparison. I wonder if they've finally fixed the oil starvation issues that have plagued the boxers for ages. I know the miata engine is particularly made to be g-resistant, but subarus tend to start starving their rod bearings when you start pulling some lateral gs. Ik being NA helps the brz with detonation and head gaskets, but there's more to subaru reliability than that

His experienced catastrophic engine failure, and unable to leave well enough alone, he swapped a v8, did the carbon fiber body and hardtop by hand, and its pretty. But after driving it, I was horrified, its nuts...
    So I came on craigslist looking for a used miata, dont want to buy new like him and swap for no reason, only swapping a used car, and definitely not a v8, hahaha. I am going to do a K swap, I stil want some kind of fuel efficiency hahaha, or rather I am too old to scare myself with torque again, I am not young anymore haha. Keep in mind this is closer in size to the NA. There is no spare available, and it would not fit in the boot if you had one. It comes with a fix a flat kit and an air pump. Some models do come with a jack. My 22 RFGT has never had an issue bottoming out or scraping. Stock ride height is plenty to park over curbs without scratching or grinding. Lower the vehicle is another issue. Too low and you will have issues

    I just test drove 3 Miatas..
    A 2022 RF auto..nice car but..no get up and go at 4K rpm and under..only can be described as..slugglish.
    A 2023 soft top manual..still really slugglish at under 4K rpm..this surprised me..but it goes like a lil bat outta hell at high rpms over 6K as does the auto..
    A 2017 RF manual was the best of the 3..because driven at under 4K RPM where most people drive 99% of the time...its a really fun car..lots of get up and go.
    I found out the gearing changed in 2019 to the slugglish current model we have now not very good at under 4K rpm.
    Why Mazda did this is a mystery to me...because the 2017 hands down beat the current model in fun factor by a HUGE amount at normal street driving speeds.
    Who is going to rev up to 6K+ rpms in regular street traffic? For the twisty winding road perhaps a benefit..but for regular driving get the previous model.
    I saw on the Miata forum they are in agreement w/my assesment..one commenter said..the current model is a superior car to the earlier ND model..but the earlier model is..a better....Miata..
    This guy bought the 2018 over the 2019..for a lot of reasons..read the comments on his video and why people agreed..

      Sure the 2023 model is as good in the mid range and better at higher rpms over 6K...
      But at under 4K rpm..the current model..is a dog..
      I still may buy the current model if I can adjust my mind and feet to the low torque at low rpm's..but may just opt out for the 2017/18 model because it is just a funner car to drive in regular street driving... Just go to the Miata forum..for confirmation..I'm not making this stuff up..
      Even the person in this vid..compared the low end torque in current model to a Mazda 3..thats not great..

    Nicely done. Mechanically, the new Miata is very similar to the '16 Mazda3 hatchback that I thoroughly enjoyed when I had it. I've been driving manual transmissions for half a century, and the Mazda 6-speed in the Miata is essentially the same one I had in my hatchback. It's easily the best manual transmission I've ever driven, and I agree about the light feel of the clutch as well. Alas, back and knee issues meant I had to get something higher off the ground, and at that point I decided to go to a hybrid, which Mazda has missed the boat on, and all of them have automatic transmissions, though my Kia Niro at least has a dual-clutch version. I'd love to see Mazda's treatment of my Niro.
