As someone who worked night shift for years and enjoyed it, it's all about your circadian rhythm. If you can keep the same schedule, even on your days off, your body will adjust and it will feel like you would feel during the day time at night. The people who struggle are the ones who try to maintain normal hours, especially on their days off, and then swap their schedule back again for night. It confuses your body too much so you'll always feel tired and awful. Of course it's much easier to do if you don't have responsibilities like children or such where you can set whatever hours you want.
Jonathan Banks' acting in this episode is honestly some of the best acting I've ever seen. I was blown away. This episode is one of the ones I hold up as "equal to Breaking Bad". He was nominated for an Emmy but somehow lost to a forgettable performance by Peter Dinklage. At least Dinklage himself said he expected Banks to win.
Absolutely. Kaylee will never know what happened to her Grandad. The last thing she will remember of him is that he left her alone in the park. Pretty sad stuff all around. However, it's "karma" if you can call it that. Mike was probably responsible for the disappearance of many people (I always think about that guy from S5,the one Lydia sent and who offed Chow. Before getting shot,he said "I really need the money" or something like that. Probably had a family too who will never know about him). Plus you have........ SPOILERS..... Werner,Howard (not his fault directly, but helped set up the fake story), Drew Sharp (the kid that Todd shot, again, not responsible, but helped to disappear the body),and who knows how many other unlucky suckers that crossed his or Gus's path suffered from the same fate. What goes around comes around I guess.
Yeah but that’s the point, of all the righteousness and self awareness that Mike had, he was just another criminal at the end of the day and died like one, his body never to be found by his family
Something about V saying with the sweetest voice "He set them up" while mike shoots 2 cops to death. That episode is so good, but there are still many great to come.
9:05 Kim's feet! Kim's feet! We have it! CELEBRATIONS ALL AROUND!!!!! (seriously if you love Quinten Tarantino movies you're going to love better call Saul!)
Jimmy wasn't just "studying classic suits." The program he was watching, "Matlock," was renowned for being enormously popular with senior citizens. And he had just told Chuck that he was moving more and more into "elder law," so he figures why not emulate the look of the senior's #1 favorite TV lawyer, Ben Matlock. And then, voila, he strolls into the elder community center all dolled up in their hero Matlock's patented cream colored suit.
I just couldn't keep my concentration locked on the sovereign republic segment because of my anticipation of V's reaction to the sex toilet. 😂She didn't let me down.
I think big game hunting is stupid as well. BUT if you look into it in certain countries (mainly in Africa I believe) the money that rich people pay to do that gets used for conservation and actually helps. Kind of a messed up away to do it, but it does help and fights poaching.
I am so amazed when of actors with such a range of emotion. They can be stoic and stern but also broken and emotional. It's what makes an actor amazing! Saul also is amazing for his range.
Better Call Saul is a prequel series that is tailor-made to be watched *after* the original series. In my opinion, anyone watching this video has no business complaining about Breaking Bad spoilers since they should have already watched it.
Jonathan Banks gives a phenomenal performance in Five-O. "I broke my boy" never fails to make me choke up. He should have won the emmy for that (though I could say that about just about every emmy nomination this show never won).
Jonathon Banks deserved something for his performance in this series as Mike. He was great in BB but he took Mike's character and took it to another level in BCS. That scene alone basically saying he got his son killed shatters your heart because you feel that pain.
You’re one of my favorite reactors. Thanks for being such a breath of fresh air. You always brighten my day. Love from Texas! (Oh, and your totally right. Game-hunting is gross!)
I've always found it really interesting how many people watch a show like this and just accept the idea that someone could be allergic to electricity at face value even when the doctor is obviously skeptical, despite the very *idea* being so ridiculous. It's actually a pretty useful metric for how much or how little the average person knows about biology despite it being directly relevant to all of our lives. Also, no, the cops definitely did not pay for his door after kicking it in - no Law Enforcement Official or agency in the United States has ever had to pay for damage done to someone's house in the process of breaking in so long as they were on the clock at the time.
I think I’ll agree with you on this one. I think relating the things from Breaking bad to this show makes sense there are so many references to breaking bad
People don't realize that the "I broke my boy" monologue was the first time we've EVER seen Mike cry. He was always a cold, calculated, stoic badass who never expressed vulnerability. To say that it was a shock to see this much emotion from him would be the understatement of the century. It was completely unfamiliar and jarring to see this man shed tears. Truly awesome work by Jonathan Banks.
Gotta say; they probably shot the flashback scenes in Albuquerque or Hollywood, but that outside-of-the-bar area looked pretty close to what the actual Nicetown section of Philly looks like.
I LOVE Five-O. It might be my favorite episode, although I'm a bit biased since Mike is probably my favorite character as well. But I simply adore how this episode is like its own self-contained little movie in the middle of the series. You could show this to someone who has not seen either show and they would probably still really enjoy it.
Given that Mike was one of my favorite characters in Breaking Bad, I was quite happy to see that Better Call Saul was a good fifty percent Mike's story.
If you rewind and watch closely, you can actually see Mike steal the notebook on camera and hide it in his pocket. This is such a great detail, it's barely a second and not in thee focus of action, so pretty much everyone misses it the first time
I don’t know if this is the best analogy but watching breaking bad first as opposed to watching better call Saul First. It just gives you different perspectives. It’s kind of like Star Wars if you watch the original trilogy first episodes 45 and six as opposed to watching episodes one 2 and three first. Just gives you different perspectives on how how you relate to the characters and understand the scenes.
I stayed on a Call Center Company on my last job as an Jr. Desktop Support Engr. in the IT Dept. as my shift was 7pm till 4am, we just switch sleeping schedule I consistently sleep 7 hours every time I went home from work around 5-6 am my coworkers drink caffein from star bucks which is just below the office to stay awake at midnight cause that last 4 hours from 1 am till 4 is very exhausting.
I recently rewatched Five-O and I was thinking about the character Mike would become in Breaking Bad and when I realized how connected and caring he would be for Jesse it broke my heart. No wonder Mike watched over and guided Jesse towards the last half of the show, he saw a naive young man with a good heart in him, just like his son :(
That hairstyle looks so good on you! (Sorry I grew up with hair stylists and always appreciate when a certain style fits a person's head and face well.)Lol
I'm my opinion this show surpassed Breaking Bad, and this episode showed that. The wiring is so good, and the performances are really incredible. I think everyone in the main cast had money moments to tell really show their acting chops. From Mike, to Jimmy, to Kim, to Chuck, and Howard, and I won't spoil anything, but there are characters yet to appear who will put in some great performances as well.
Vick, if I remember correctly, this was the year that Jonathan Banks won an Emmy, and From what I hear, it was dovetail off of the performance of this episode. If you look on RUclips, for Jonathan Banks winning the Emmy, when they announce him as a nominee, they actually show the scene from this episode. Definitely one of the most powerful episodes of the entire series. It’s still makes me tear up to watch it again.
29:29 "Is this a new way to break into cars?...I hope no thieves watch this" No. it's quite an old way, don't worry they already knew that's why newer models the latches sink down much further. Tripple A opened a car for me once using this method.
Mike has got to be one of the most stoic characters in the entire show, so you know when he starts crying that the audience will feel for him. Fun fact: episode 5 was originally supposed to be called jello because of the ending, the reason why they changed it was because they didn’t want to get sued by the jello company. And yea I agree it feels like a very weird title. Edit: also I feel with better call Saul I definitely do think people should watch it after breaking bad but what I like about this show is that it’s not 100% like breaking bad, it is trying some stuff differently while keeping the same spirit in mind.
As the old lady descends on her stair lift: "How did she let him into her house?" You are only saying that because you know him better. But old people just love Jimmy. You'll see...
While I'm watching this during my nightshade & drinking a beverage with caffeine & I hear you ask, "How do night shift workers stay awake? I'm assuming a lot of caffeine... That made me smile
Old cars used to have those types of lock (70s and 80s cars). I don't think they make any like that anymore. I've broke into my old cars before when I locked the key in them. I've done it with a wire coat hanger. But yeah, I like his string method, that would likely work well on those old cars.
I don't imagine anyone being interested in this show without having already seen breaking bad to be honest, it's like someone watching godfather 2 without watching 1 first even if it is techincally a prequel you still need to watch part 1 first to get the full experience
Evening V....I feel that you cannot appreciate Better Call Saul if you haven't watched Breaking Bad.... this show fills in the blanks and gives depth to the characters we didn't get... Love the reactions...
There isn't a single reaction channel on the planet that reacted to BCS before BB, and the same goes for the viewers, so you're really not spoiling BB. Keep going as if we've all seen it, we have.
Chuck wouldn't have been able to sit on that talking toilet... 😢 otoh, the second episode is amazing; I forgot about that one and Johnathan Banks is so perfect
Yes it is. I like Breaking Bad more but some episodes of BCS are right up there with the best of it, and this is one of them. If I had to limit my list of favorite BCS episodes to just five choices, this one would be in that list.
I don't know what's funnier about the toilet thing: the toilet actually saying all those things, or V saying to blow up the man's house just to destroy it. She's seen too much Breaking Bad lol.
I’m surprised you wouldn’t expect Mike to be corrupt considering the “no half measures” speech he gave Walt about the abusive husband . Also as a night shift worker for almost six years it just your cycle at some point just switches over from the norm .
I 100% think you are right in relating / thinking back to Breaking Bad. There are tons of references and easter eggs, and even explanations for some things that happened in BB littered throughout this show.
I'm looking forward to each of these BCS releases from you. You're one of the best reaction RUclipsrs as you know when to talk and when to actually react and stay quiet. You're going to be rewarded so much if you watch BCS until the end. It ends up being better than BB, and that's saying something.
That show isn't really spin-off, but rather a prequel of Breaking Bad. They connect many dots so better pay attention to details. This is such a treat for BB fans.
IMO Howard is one of the best written characters in the Breaking Bad universe. It will be interesting to see how you feel about his character you progress through the series.
Talking about BB while watching BCS is never spoiling. BCS is the continuation of the world and is specifically written (at points) assuming you have at least some knowledge of BB

My first thought after I finished the Five-O episode was just how I hated what Walt did to Mike. His family will never know what happened to him.
I think Mike would prefer it that way. I doubt he wants his granddaughter to know he was killed for helping run a meth empire
He was actually killed because he won an argument lol
It's absolutely ok to think about breaking bad while watching this. There will be connections that are so very satisfying.
Here's a fun fact. Mike's granddaughter's mom is Friday. Tony Stark's AI that replaced Jarvis.
Game-hunting is gross!)
five-0 is hands down my favorite episode of BCS and BB.
Also, no, the cops definitely did not pay for his door after kicking it in - no Law Enforcement Official or agency in the United States has ever had to pay for damage done to someone's house in the process of breaking in so long as they were on the clock at the time.
the "I broke my boy" lines always make me cry
I think I’ll agree with you on this one. I think relating the things from Breaking bad to this show makes sense there are so many references to breaking bad
Mike: **calls Jimmy to do his dirty work.**
Also Mike: *"wE aLL mAkE oUr cHoiCe"*
Mike is the biggest culprit for the aftermath.
it's all a bad choice road...
Chuck steals neighbors paper
Vkunia: Also throw rocks at the neighbor
Jonathan Bank's performance in this episode alone is one of the best moments of this series.
Five-o, the Mike episode, is one of my favorite hours of TV. Such a powerhouse performance from Jonathan Banks
Love your hair in this video! So glad to be following your Better Call Saul journey, best show ever!
Given that Mike was one of my favorite characters in Breaking Bad, I was quite happy to see that Better Call Saul was a good fifty percent Mike's story.
If you rewind and watch closely, you can actually see Mike steal the notebook on camera and hide it in his pocket. This is such a great detail, it's barely a second and not in thee focus of action, so pretty much everyone misses it the first time
Thats why Mike is the way he is right now, he learned things the hard way and he changed for the better.
"is this a new way to break into cars?" lmao
"I made him lesser. I made him like me."
That single line broke my heart in so many ways.
Brilliant episode....and really, the first of many that gives great insight into the background of BB
The fact that Johnathon Banks never got an Emmy for Breaking Bad Half Measures Episode or for this show and this Episode, is a crime.
I recently rewatched Five-O and I was thinking about the character Mike would become in Breaking Bad and when I realized how connected and caring he would be for Jesse it broke my heart. No wonder Mike watched over and guided Jesse towards the last half of the show, he saw a naive young man with a good heart in him, just like his son :(
Yeah after trying to kill Jesse in season 3…
@@josephsarto689 That's why I specified the last parts of the show
That hairstyle looks so good on you!
Correction. It was the critics choice award he won.

I'm so envious of your hair 🥺
BCS is so damn good. Every season has huge memorable moments.
29:29 "Is this a new way to break into cars?...I hope no thieves watch this" No. it's quite an old way, don't worry they already knew that's why newer models the latches sink down much further. Tripple A opened a car for me once using this method.
Hand the paper back through the door and apologize. As for Ricky, 'Welcome to Rapture.'
As the old lady descends on her stair lift: "How did she let him into her house?"
You are only saying that because you know him better. But old people just love Jimmy.
You'll see...
While I'm watching this during my nightshade & drinking a beverage with caffeine & I hear you ask, "How do night shift workers stay awake? I'm assuming a lot of caffeine...
That made me smile
Great characters in these shows, well developed over time
That blank, pitiless look Mike gives those two lousy cops before he kills them is savage.
Howard is such an interesting character, I'm not saying why
Yes he really is such a mind blowingly well written character. Patrick Fabian did such an incredible job portraying him, not saying why either!
26:53 mike literally puts book in the pocket such a cool detail
Chuck wouldn't have been able to sit on that talking toilet... 😢 otoh, the second episode is amazing; I forgot about that one and Johnathan Banks is so perfect
Five-O is one of the best episodes in all of BCS and BrBa :)
Mike is handsdown one of the highlitghts of BB and BCS
That show isn't really spin-off, but rather a prequel of Breaking Bad. They connect many dots so better pay attention to details. This is such a treat for BB fans.
IMO Howard is one of the best written characters in the Breaking Bad universe. It will be interesting to see how you feel about his character you progress through the series.
"That's genius!"
Maybe, but it's an old trick. Nobody's gonna learn anything new from it.
"I've seen insurance appraisers bleed! Their bloods different... darker."
I'm allergic to the sun.-Viola. Everytime I hear about Chuck's allergy lol
When this was originally on, we all made references to “Breaking Bad” as things happened and connected.
Talking about BB while watching BCS is never spoiling. BCS is the continuation of the world and is specifically written (at points) assuming you have at least some knowledge of BB
That one line in the hospital, we all heard it, we all know it and we won't say anything because of spoilers🙃😅
Best monologue from Mike. Better than the Half-Measures monologue to Walt about Jesse.
