As a city fan i lose sleep every time i watch enzo ball out for Argentina knowing we so easily could’ve signed him with alvarez. They’ve both been incredible this tournament
City would have too many forwards to know what to do with. Barca if they were smart would go for Enzo/Alvarez for their style of play than Lewa for the long term since Fati and Dembele is a bit injury prone and both Enzo/Alvarez are flexible enough to play different roles. Pep can do wonders with either but with Haaland/Alvarez/Foden/Silva/Mahrez City is already spoiled for choice and it’ll be hard to get Enzo in the rotation. But if City gets another holding midfielder that also helps to win ball back like Rice, that truly is a scary prospect for the rest of the league. Rodrigo does well enough but another option for that role is scary. Rice also helps for homegrown req for UCL and can play as a ball playing defender in case of emergencies.

The amount of salty supporters is actually impressive. Instead of hating on greatness, you should embrace it. Both Messi and Ronaldo are amazing footballers, two of the greatest to ever do it, but the things that Ronaldo does, other people do them too on a daily basis, he just used to do them more often, which is a result of dedication and hardwork, while the things that Messi does, no one else can do apart from Maradona. (But even him, most of us have only seen him on RUclips)

We need more women having such an insight of Football game.
Wouldn't praise Scaloni too much for his selections, as he played Papu Gomez at first. Papu has been a good player in the past, but has slowed down considerably over the past few years. It was easy then to drop him and pick Enzo Fernandez, who has some amazing fbref numbers at Benfica.
The gulf in quality with those numbers compared to Papu's for instance is quite big, albeit they play in different leagues, and even in different positions. Basically if anyone in the Argentina coaching staff has an internet connection, Enzo just has to play. Maybe back in the 80s they might have picked the bigger name hasbeen over him.
I think each player gave him different strategies and systems. I doubt Scaloni gets Papu on the field and expects for him to manage the game as Enzo. The same with Alvarez and Martinez. Papu might have worked better with Lautaro. But the River Plate pair understand each other very well and they must play together, but at first, MArtinez was Scaloni first choice. Then you have the age and inexperience fact. Lautaro Martinez WAS Scaloni's fetiche player. It didn't matter how many goals he missed in front of the goalkeeper and how many times I screamed at the TV... he was allways playing. The fact that he gave Alvarez and Fernandez, two very young players with only months of european experience, THE chance in CRITICAL games and then he rewarded their efforts and skill lvl... it was something to admire. Not any coach would have made that decision. Maradona was called to the 1978 world cup but then the coach send him back because he was too young (18 years old I think) and they won anyway. Messi was called to the 2006 world cup and the game Argentina lost against Germany and was eliminated, the coach left him on the bench. He had 19 years old. Not any coach will take THAT risk. Many go for the experience, even if they run less or if they had less spark. In a competition as this one, they usually prefer regularity before risks. Fernandez only had one game with Argentina National team... I'm a River Plate fan so I love the guy, but it was a wild card that enter through the window when Lo Celso was injured days before the world cup. How can you, as a coach grab this new kid and suddenly throw him to play with the best players in the world with very little chance to test him? I only say that It's a VERY hard choice to make. Losing to Saudi was a good way to put Scaloni into a corner so he had to make VERY tough decisions. And they worked. And his decisions brought us to the finals.
