I recently purchased a huge coin collection from a family. Most of the coins we collected prior to 1980. This video features 3 Dansco-style Albums (pre-1970) filled with Key Date, Semi-Key Date Wheat pennies worth a lot of money
"Wheat Cent" typically refers to the Lincoln Wheat Cent, a United States one-cent coin that was minted from 1909 to 1958. It was designed by sculptor Victor David Brenner and features a portrait of President Abraham Lincoln on the obverse (front) side and two ears of wheat on the reverse (back) side.
Collectors often seek out Lincoln Wheat Cents for their historical significance and numismatic value. The series transitioned to the Lincoln Memorial Cent design in 1959, featuring a different depiction of Abraham Lincoln on the obverse and the Lincoln Memorial on the reverse.
Key features of the Lincoln Wheat Cent include:
Obverse Design: The front of the coin showcases a bust of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. The inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" is above Lincoln's head, and the word "LIBERTY" appears to the left.
Reverse Design: The reverse side displays two ears of wheat flanking the words "ONE CENT." The Latin phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (Out of many, one) is located above the wheat ears.
Composition: The composition of the coin changed over the years. In 1909, the first year of issue, the coin was made of 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc. In 1943, due to the shortage of copper during World War II, the U.S. Mint produced steel pennies coated with zinc, making them silver in appearance.
Mintage Years: The Lincoln Wheat Cent was minted from 1909 to 1958, with various mint locations producing the coins, including Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco.
Varieties: There are several notable varieties and errors associated with the Lincoln Wheat Cent series, including the 1909-S VDB (Victor David Brenner) variety. The 1914-D and 1931-S, which are also considered key dates, and various doubled-die varieties, which are featured in this video
