Straordinario è geniale perosi. Ingiustamente dimenticato.

I only heard snippets of this, but so far, I'm liking what I'm hearing (incl. that cheeky quotation from Mozart at 18:41 😉). I need to listen to this in its entirety. According to Wikipedia, Perosi was hugely popular/celebrated in his day revered by such figures as Puccini. And rightly so, the dude was insane - he composed 22 full scale oratorios and 54 (!) masses. I remember reading about him in an anecdote book as a man of prodigious abilities neglected by an increasingly secular world.

There's also a clear quote of Dissonance Quartet intro somewhere (I don't remember if in this Oratorio or some other that I'll publish in the next days [and today!]).
Perosi also wrote non-sacred works, but of course both recordings and scores of them are pretty rare. :(
There's also his collection of 100 (!) organ pieces on IMSLP.

@@SPscorevideos Mozart copied that theme himself from Eberlin. Maybe it's just a template subject, like the passus/saltus durisculus or the exclamatio. At any rate, this channel of yours is slowly becoming my favourite place to discover neglected masterworks, so keep them coming! 😊

moments like this just make me think: how has Perosi been hidden for so long?

Wow!!! I wasn't aware that such masterly passions were still written in the 20th century. Maybe the choice of basing it on the Latin text has hindered it being more widely known and performed?

His other works are in Latin, but still unknown. :( I'm publishing his La Risurrezione di Cristo in 6-7 hours, it's on Latin indeed.

I'd love to do it, but it's still under copyright for editing reason, and I don't think Ricordi would be happy...

This sounds like "The Passion of the Petite Messe Sollennele della Stabat Mater in B Minor" by W.A. Mozart
