    Do you keep Bucephalandra? Have you tried growing and propagating them? If so, what kind?

    Great intro to keeping bucephalandra. Love that you got straight to the point, no jibber jabber and long winded stories about your lunch, car breaking down, wife calling you, dog taking a poo, lol. Nicely filmed!!

      If you are interested, I founded a FB group for aquascaping. It is very friendly and drama free, not big, but quite active. Great place to start your aquarium journey. I'm also hoping to have more locals join so we help each other with buying/selling plants locally. Aquatic plants can get expensive.....ahem Bucephalandra! Lol.

      Yeah, make sure you get from Aliexpress tho' cuz from Amazon, you pay a ton more. They are listed at 2 for $20 CDN!! You'll have to wait a bit for Aliexpress, but worth it. I got 10 for $18! I usually sell my Buce for about $10-$15 depending on size and number of leaves. 2" plus length with 8 or so leaves I sell for $15 🙂

    Great video, thanks for sharing! Just a couple of quick questions:
    1) what are the small fish you have in there? other than the red cherry shrimp i noticed some tiny black/grey fish that looked like small corys?
    2) will planting buceps in active substrate (just the roots and not the rhizome) give better growth? Since they get more access to nutrients? Any tips for planting buceps inside substrate, especially when the roots are quite shallow?
    Thank you!

    • @GavinKohAquascaping
      @GavinKohAquascaping  2 года назад

      Hey thank you!
      The small fish are Otocinclus catfish. They are super chill.
      Buce are epiphytes, so they should not be be planted in substrate. They have to be attached to a rock or driftwood.

    can we use liquid super glue with cotton swab to glue plants with rocks?

    • @GavinKohAquascaping
      @GavinKohAquascaping  Год назад +1

      What you are actually looking for in the superglue is an ingredient called cyanoacrylate. This is safe for the plants and animals. It goes inert the moment it touches water or dries up.
      I can't speak for any other type of superglue...though I've seen other people use a type of liquid superglue. Perhaps you can ask those guys what they use. Hope this helps.

    can we grow them emersed ?

    • @GavinKohAquascaping
      @GavinKohAquascaping  3 года назад +1

      I believe so. There is a series of videos called "Grow Buce Like a Boss". I think he talks about growing them emersed. Also, Buce in general grown by river banks, half emersed, half submersed. So it is natural for them.

    • @GavinKohAquascaping
      @GavinKohAquascaping  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hard to say why, there are so many variables like water parameters, were there roots where you cut, were the roots buried after glueing, etc.

  • @full_metal2452
    @full_metal2452 Год назад +1

    Interesting that you can glue on cut end and it will still grow roots

    • @GavinKohAquascaping
      @GavinKohAquascaping  Год назад +2

      Yes, the roots grow from the side of the rhizome. As long as you have a decent rhizome, the plant will thrive :)

    i thought bucep have rhizomes like anubias......well i dont own any bucep right noe so not sure what it really looks like
    for anubias, you didn't show much. You cut the rhizomes or how?

    • @GavinKohAquascaping
      @GavinKohAquascaping  2 года назад +1

      The reason I didn't show much is because you treat the Anubias the same as you would Buce. Anubias and Buce are very similar, both with rhizomes.

  • @tavogama6982
    @tavogama6982 Год назад +1

    but whyy do they thrive better when attached to something ??

    • @GavinKohAquascaping
      @GavinKohAquascaping  Год назад +1

      Buce are not meant to be buried in the soil. Their roots need to be in the water column. When you attach them to rock or driftwood, their roots are exposed and it can absorb nutrients. If you don't feel like glueing them, you can just wedge them between rocks or driftwood too.

    • @GavinKohAquascaping
      @GavinKohAquascaping  Год назад

      Buce is a super hardy plants. I tried taking them from submersed to emersed and they adapted very well, then I stopped the experiment and placed them back in the tank with no issue. Pretty hard to kill this plant to be honest.
