omg listening to this with headphones is so magical its like im remembering memories i never had. memories of living in space, or something like that... damn there must really be something about composing music with tracker software that just brings out creativity in people, i dont know just, some songs from this era are truly special
Ahh that's clever! Never thought of turning off drums on a preexisting track to "make" an ambient track. Synths and bass alone can definitely be ambient.
I remember doing this in XMPlay, I'd set the track with the drum channels muted, sometimes adding some reverb, and let it play for hooooooouuuurs... Skyward Fire has always been my favorite from the UT99 OST
the songs in the game files aren't MIDIs, but a custom format designed for trackers (the software used in the video) to make one, you can just take the song from the game files, load it up into a tracker (personal reccomendation: OpenMPT) and record it playing
