Sam, you’re simply awesome! Your attitude and outlook on life is what all of us need a little or maybe, a lot more of!
I loved the montage at the end, with music, heavenly!
Wow the Moroccan video is so well done. You two are a great team.
You're living the life, Sam. Treasure these experiences!
The smile on her face makes it all worth it.
Just found your channel! Love the Kuhl shirt, their pants have become my go-to for a lot of my own adventures. Good luck!
I really like your down to earth means of developing your videos and easing new crew into your sailing. Demonstrating to others that you do not have to be very wealthy and spend tons of money on a huge monohull or catamaran to circumnavigate.
Tangiers looks cool.
When you come back and visit the west coast of Canada, I have a place on Vancouver Island. It's beautiful out here in the summer.
Take care. Bare feet on a yacht or pontoon is a safety hazard. If you ever get a foot jammed under a cleat, or accidentally kick or step on any deck or pontoon ironwork you’ll immediately realise why footwear is essential. But a super video. Sailing down wind off Tarifa is always exciting.
Thanks for the suggestion
Quite the workout with the tiller. Nice to hear the engine start so cleanly.
😂
Hi Sam, I used Simrad tiller pilots for more than 30 years and found they lasted about 7 years on average. I now use Pelagic. Much more reliable and stronger and much cheaper than the Simrad!
Nice video Sam, this is what You Tube should be.
Samster, I'm only 2 mins into this and just had to say that only you have successfully (in my humble opinion) integrated your significant other into, what are usually, solo sailing videos. Others have tried to add their girlfriends into their videos but, for whatever reason, their videos started to suck after they did that. I'm always glad to see her along for the ride and best wishes to both of you.
Huub added his girlfriend, Daniela to his channel, and it's still one of the best on RUclips.
Gibraltar... you are getting around... I remember when you were in Florida!! fair winds!!
I'm thinking the high point for Sam's videos was taking the battered Hobie Cat across the Gulf Stream to The Bahamas. If I were doing this I'd go with the gal who could handle that kind of adventure. Not many women are capable of spending a lot of time at sea under sail, especially in cramped quarters with Spartan conditions.
Sam, I'm so glad you found a new crew member. That should help with those long passages!
She's not new
She does help with long passages though.
Your motor sounds like the African Queens boat motor. 😆😳😂
Sam got b@lls of steel traveling the world with that old engine I will be stressing out
hahah, mine is similar, my wife indeed says the same as you do, Yanmar YSM 8, I think his is 1GM
An old single cylinder Thumper
@@rotarypower84 A well cared for diesel will run near enough unto forever, as long as you got compression, air and atomized fuel getting into the cylinder a diesel can't help but to run.
@@rotarypower84 no fks given.
Ann-Elin's dress was nice, and not enough time was given to the feast uncovered. Every cruising channel does the Northern Med, it's nice to see North Africa.
Yeah she's a class act.
Yes, she's very elegant. Food looked amazing. Going to look for a Moroccan food channel.
she has her own channel
@djinthemixxX Yes, and makes a more artistic content. I like seeing the polished content. Sam's more about sailing, and she's better at sightseeing!
@@davidellis2021 Tajine d'agneau is my guess.
Another great sail, so glad you have someone to share it with. All the best, you're a true sailing channel!
I was following Sam when he had 5000 followers!
Sam always seems in a good mood when he is on a boat! His videos are always a good watch, haven't seen them in a bit but now he has a gal on the boat too! Lol. Glad he has some company, safe sailing.
The ending minutes were very romantic.
Safe travels Sam! I love your videos.
This guy has such a great outlook on everything. I would love to do a trip with him.
Beautiful, esp the closing minutes in Tangier, music perfectly chosen.
Thanks I made it myself
@@samholmessailing You made the music yourself? Impressive indeed, you paraglide, wingfoil, sail around the world, have a selection of lovely girlfriends.... Big up to you Sam! I guess if you compose the music, no credit is required! Your music is absolutely charming and has some contrapuntal elements... so beautiful! Is it created on paper, or is there an app involved?
Wow !! Sam it’s so beautiful the roaring waves and the blue see…you’re nice couple up there…be safe dear..love you both..❤
Great footage of you handling the tiller. It’s way cool to see both of your story telling viewpoints. You are the Captain, the navigator, the orchestrator of harbor procurements, the financial manager/challenge over comer… and Ann Elin is, partly, the right hand man and cruise director - helping find fun places to explore and bring to life. You complement each other really well! I’m looking forward to more of these shared adventures. 🎉❤🤗👍💯
Thanks 👍
I appreciate the reality you present.
If you use the tiller pilot on your windvane it will work way better than on the tiller. I take off the board and I made a pin mount to go in place of the vane. Just need to make a bracket to fit your rail to mount the tiller pilot. I have used mine this way for years as I do not have any normal autopilot. The tillerpilot is not working at all at that point.
Cheers
Morocco? How very cool. Most cruisers never leave the tropics.
They brag about how they have sailed around the world and while
that may be true, there is a lot of the world, nay, MOST of the world
lies outside of the tropics. I am So pleased you are showing us
somewhere new.
!
Thank you, sir and ma'am, for the azaans at the end!
Try wrapping your autopilot in cling-film, a few wraps around will keep any water out but you can still see the display and use the buttons :)
I covered it in a waterproof tape but it didn’t seem to work. Not sure cling film would be any better
@@samholmessailing I mean it's a device meant for a boat...why the heck can't they make it IP65 or whatever for gawd's sake!
There's a name for that. Raymarine.
Sam, It would be awesome to know more from you about the preparation you do for such an important passage. What do you do? which weather you look for, what time of the day, how you define your route etc... Thanks!
The ocean is one of my biggest fears. Hats off to you, great content as always
You look so happy, and as a newbie to sailing, I’m already boat shopping and planning. KEEP UP THE GREAT VIDEOS!
Blimey you're having a late one tonight/this morning. Thanks for the video.
Wind against the current will build those seas. Always an interesting ride. Great video.
It’s like a movie, walking through a beautiful old city with an elegant lady, I’m waiting for a super villain to start chasing you
Awesome 👌 Super 🆒️ 👌 👏 👍 🙌 😎
You got to Morocco 😮 wow. That's something we don't usually see in sailing channels 💪💯💖❤🙏 it looks awesome too 👌👍
Hands down you have the BEST sailing channel ❤ 💕 I wish you the very BEST 💯❤
Dope!
Hi Sam
What a great choice to stop in Tangier, nice color, nice architecture, nice food.
Pelagic tiller give you more satisfaction
Great surfs! Lovely Morocco, always!
great video. Beautiful sail across to Tangier. Good to see a few shots of you coming into the harbor. Not enough video of the city. It looks very beautiful and photogenic. I have only visited Rabat and Casablanca. Reminds me of my visits to Tunisia and Morocco.
Watch for those pesky orcas! Fair winds and following seas!
Really enjoyed video Sam,thank you
Great fun. Thank you for my evenings entertainment !
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for another beautiful episode of inspiration 🤙
Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
amazing as always Sam xx
Stay safe Sam!
I left my yacht in the fishing port for 10 days and took the train to Meknes. Lots of kids trying to swim across the harbour and get on the trucks, waiting to cross to Spain. that was 2006, before it all got tarted up!
Looked pretty exciting! Great sailing!
We visited Morocco a few years ago. It was one of most fascinating destinations!
Autopilot - if you can, try and encapsulate the circuit board in expoy resin
Is this your first time on the African Continent? Seems like a dream. A great passage and a beautiful place. That call to prayer at the end reminds me of when i was traveling in the UAE. Fair winds!
Besides Tunisia yes
Great video, my Tampa Bay friend. Terra Ceia island is pulling for you.
Cute factor very high with the two of you. Morocco is beautiful!
Nice sail, guys. The places you go are beautiful.
yay!!! just in time for friday lunch break hahaha
Love the pole drone shots.
Great sailing Sam!!! ⛵⛵⛵
Sailin your ass off like a rock star best vid ever
Beautiful Video Sam!
It’s scary enough just looking at it on my iPad screen! Sure is rolling !
Love your channel! have been following you for quite some time. Do you ever get worried about pirates? Thank you
Sam Holmes your my Hero
My best advice buy an autopilot for a bigger boat, spend 3x the money but then the quality is soo much more.
Most of the ones for bigger boats are designed to go below deck. I don’t have that option for my boat.
@@samholmessailing Perhaps the Raymarine EV100? Its a Tiller-pilot with a separate control unit, no electronics in the pushrod.
It’s a different world out there. So much old history.
Riding the waves isn’t easy. If your autopilot didn’t give up before it would have once you hit those waves.
12:19 Sam, you are living the life🎉
Sam, have you ever checked out the Pelagic AutoPilot for tiller boats? Very robust hydraulic ram for controlling the tiller.
Yes I got one to replace this last autopilot. I didn’t get the hydraulic one though, its very noisy and seems not much better than the simrads. Although the mechanical parts have never been the issue so maybe the electrics will last longer.
@@samholmessailingopen it up and cover the board with silicone.
The Pelagics are pretty popular out here on the Pacific crossing side….Very reliable compared to the Simrad and Auto Helms.
The hydraulic Pelagics that is…
Very nice djellaba Ann-Elin...suits you!
Fair winds prayers for you in your voyages
That ship almost looked like something from star wars for a second.
totaly
Very enjoyable.
que romantica
Wow, the stories you’ll have to tell.
Well you have choices in life. Have kids and settle or don't have them and do the Ann-Sam thing. And more young people are choosing the latter. There's way too many people on this rock anyway (so we could stand to lose a few billion).
The autopilot looks like a linear actuator with a gps chip and an esp32 board running some pretty straightforward software. Maybe it's time to make an open source model so that they're easy to repair and build.
They already have one. Its called pypilot
@@samholmessailing that's awesome I'll have to look at it!
I can’t believe you found Cafe Baba - incredibly famous and well known spot! I enjoyed going there in 2014 👍🏼👊🏻
With Ann’elin we stop at all the coffee shops
@@samholmessailing Sounds like the lyrics of your next song.
Liked Tangier!
unreal man live it up thanks for the views
pretty smooth rudder there! :)
I learned when it gets like this , is to slow down , an dream this is going to last forever . An secretly you want it to.
Always an adventure
Superbe!
I hope we get more vids from Morocco, such a cool place
Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech, Agadir & Essaouira coming next
@@samholmessailing looking forward to that my man! I was in Agadir and Marrakech over 20 years ago. Try and get up in the Atlas mountains too if you have the time.
I wonder if one could make a 3d printed, raspberry pi(??) tiller pilot that is more robust against water/corrosion...
If anyone could, it would be Sam.
There's a guy that builds a modification for them to prevent it from breaking. It's designed to break.
He engineered a fix. I'll find you a link for the auto pilot
Sam, not sure, but just a suggestion: are you sure that your tiller pilot is getting the full voltage and current it needs? When I first installed mine, even after following the instructions to a tee, I found that it needed to be wired directly to the battery, with its own inline fuse, in order to get its full power needs. Just an idea.
Pure mountainess
stunning
Those overalls coming out of Gibraltar are well bumby
really fun video Sam. Tangier looks great. was the food amazing?
looked like you were rowing 😂
You sure do get around😊
I wonder what makes the difference with these Simrad TP units. I've sailed with mine (TP32) for 10 years, at least thousands of miles with it on, and it just works. I've sewed a canvas cover with pvc window over the buttons for it, to take away 95% of sea spray and rainwater, and to keep it cool under the burning sun, and it is always out even when not engaged. I take it apart every few years to grease it. Meanwhile, I hear people spend 1-2 of these per season.
Nice video and was cool to see all this wild life. Luckily - no orcas :) We were afraid to meet them last year while going same way. Hope you both liked Tanger? We loved it.
Have you taken apart your broken auto pilots to determine what failed?
Thanks!
Nice 😀
Lovely.
2 people = bigger boat = bigger adventure
