How to make a buttercream Origami Cake with fresh flowers

  • The cakes are 6" vanilla cakes, and instead of a filling I used a 6" vanilla cheesecake. It's covered in vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream. I applied a thicker crumbcoat than normal so that I could place the origami template directly over it.
    Unfortunately I miscalculated the height of the cake, hence why there's an insanely thick layer of frosting on the top. Lesson learned: make your template AFTER applying the crumbcoat so you can accurately measure the height.
    I used 2 ways to prepare the fresh flowers. Cake spikes/tubes filled with water for the vertically placed flowers, and floral tape/Safety Seal for the other arrangements.
