Happy to help! I have a lot more helpful videos as well. But I recommend figuring things out a little before jumping into some of them. Theres a lot of neat tricks in the game. Commentary: You don't need to go making an axe for a while if you don't want to. It is faster, yes, but you can use up the durability on the stone tool then make the refined knife. Use up the durability on the refined knife, and then leave it by your fire for skinning. Stone tools are perfectly good for dealing with yucca and palm saplings, and you will build a surplus of used up ones that you will convert into refined spears or other tools later on. I don't bother making an axe until I go to another island with the intention of chopping a significant amount of wood. Much like with everything else, use the crude axe until it's nearly broken as well as the stone tools THEN make the refined axe. It takes more time but maximizes your resources. Since rocks are limited it's worth it to use them wisely and get the most bang for the buck out of all your tools. For the starter island, it's best not to build a water still or smoker *unless* you did a quick wreck dive and happened to find some extra cloth. Instead, make a 2x1 raft and use your cloth for a sail and rudder. You can do just fine living off coconuts for a day or two, and save the rations. Taking a swim around midday goes a long way to keeping your SPF high, and it's a good time to check around for clay deposits or wrecks while you have the most visibility. 8 crude spears can deal with sharks, if you use a ship or lure them in close to the shallows. I don't recommend fighting sharks early on, especially if you are food/water insecure, it's better to just make a small raft and dip to another island to get some extra cloth.
All of these are accurate and excellent tips, but this is a "for beginners" video. For the people that are still getting familiar with the buttons, items etc. I gave them just enough to be able to survive and not die. I left the "big brain" tips for other videos. I search and searched to find this video again. I have to agree with other commentators. I tried playing this game multiple times previously each time following the tutorial and each time ending up in dire straights very quickly. Each time my frustration had me leaving the game. I accidentally stumbled onto your guide here and decided to blindly do exactly what you suggested and I turned the tutorial off right away and only did what you suggest here. Since then, I've repeated my experience a second time and both games have been successfully started. Thank you so much. @Just Rob I got lucky to be honest, I played this game for the first time this week, luckily my other half has completed it so we're doing a co-op playthrough and she just holds my hand through its steep learning curve
I swear I have blisters on my fingers from the friction fire! LOL I accidentally ate a ration as soon as I first picked them up and now I'm at the part where I need a crab but only find sea cucumbers and starfish I can't eat. Still in this video's tutorial and on day 3 now I have had to eat two rations and am out of fiber. Now it's getting Real! I can't wait to get to the end of this tutorial where hopefully I can save the game!
This is extremely helpful, me and my buddy finally made it to day 4 but we are both about to die to poison. Having a real hard time getting enough fiber to advance. We figured out only one of us should level crafting, the other hunting.
Amazing video! Teaches the very basics and make us newbies feel like we can do stuff without struggling too hard, very straight forward and unconfusing as well as not spoiling any late-game activity (I'm guessing lol), just giving us the basics and a few small tips & tricks!

This tutorial is FARRR better than the game's tutorial. I am completely new to Stranded Deep, and I hate to say it, but the game's tutorial completely sets you up for failure. It doesn't teach you about the "Healthy" status, it doesn't teach you not to abuse coconuts or you'll get diarrhea, it doesn't teach you about getting sunburnt, it doesn't have you build anything more than a shelter, it doesn't teach you about your craftsmanship level, etc. It is TRASH. This video was AMAZING! Thank you!
I have seen many tutorials for Stranded Deep and you are the first person to mention that there are usually 2 cloths on every island. I have 1100 plus hours invested in SD.

Wow... that steps should be added to the normal tutorial. Really. I go almost the same steps as you, but in addition I try to use up the stone tools to 1-5% and then craft a refined knife and a crude axe. Also the cococut trick was really useful. Never thought of it, but since you showed it, I do it every time. 😉
I don't use a lot of these steps hahaha. I made it for the noobs 😂 I have a tips and tricks part 2 coming up. It'll have the coco hack, crude axe hack, stone tool hack etc. Have you seen the infinite antidote hack?

Much more efficient than the in-game tutorial! Especially since they have you wasting resources to build a foundation that you will never use unless you want your home base to be on the starting island...for some weird reason. The only thing I would add is a note that you have to drop food on the ground to skin it.

Is there a way to check how close you are to a milestone like Harvesting? After I harvested from the 2nd Yucca tree my harvesting did not go up. I chopped down some more trees and gather stuff and it's still not going up. I guess it will happen eventually if they didn't change it in an update. I'm playing version v1.0.38.0.29. - Edit - My question was answered at 4:46. It's in the watch.
Funny story. When I record, the house has to be empty. Otherwise I am VERY soft spoken and sort of monotone. I actually learned that in this video. My let's play stuff is where my personality shows. I read at the top left again: kill a crab. I thought: it's not that difficult to kill a crab, for that I picked up two sticks, theoretically with one stick I can kill a simple crab. I open my inventory, take out my stick and start to chase the crab with the stick in hand to kill it 😄😄😄😄. my God. I didn't make it, of course.🙃🙃 in that chase it became night. Without water, without food, I wasted the day chasing the unhappy crab😀😀. then I thought: maybe with the stick I can kill a fish to eat. I jump into the water with the stick in my hand. There are 2 pieces of cloth on every island. Cloth can be found in Crates on shipwrecks but it's not very reliable. Cloth can also be crafted with 4 fiberous leaves and a Loom. Those are the only ways. Hope you find it!!!!

If you are new. By the time you craft or find a hammer, figure out the buttons, figure out the crafting menu, get your footing. You'll be hungry, thirsty, probably poisoned and rushing to craft an antidote that you need to level up to craft. This is rudimentary and intended to keep you alive long enough to figure out the game. Once you're used to it, you'll know what to do. Besides. I suggest swimming to the next island to level up your physical quickly. haha I could make a tutorial for intermediate and advanced players and all 3 would be different.
so you made a tutorial, and at the end state that most people know that you should use the cloth differently than how you did..... why not just record it that way then? lol
Because this is made for myself. When I was brand new to the game. After 600 hours, I know how to mitigate the dangers of another island without being encumbered by thirst, hunger, sunstroke, poison and bleeding. The tutorial is rudimentary and is here to teach you how to stay alive long enough to not feel the need to start over again. I have plans to make an intermediate tutorial that will expand on this. "What to do after the tutorial" or even "What to do once you know what you're doing"
This game sucks on Xbox. The fact you can't remap the controller to get rid of RT as the "action" button makes lighting fires almost impossible. How can you light a fire when you alternate between LT and RT but RT moves you forward every time and cancels the action. Fukin useless!
Why not show us the real good start? You do all of this, just to say in the end that it is a waste, because you should build a boat instead. I don’t get it 🤔
Because if you are brand new and you follow an intermediate tutorial. You'll likely die of hunger, poison or a shark/boar/crab will get you. Then you'd come back and comment that my advice got you killed. This tutorial was made to keep you alive while you learn and part 2 gets a little more in depth with it.

Your last tip about building a raft right away was gold! I darted towards building a raft right from the start and never looked back. I am on day 40 and loving it! I still think you should make a “best possible beginning”.
I reallyyyy with this game looked and played better on console.. I have a Series X and i guess i’ve been spoiled by good looking and 60-120 fps games, cause this looks and plays pretty bad to me 🫤 It’s a fun game but i wish the devs would at least release a 60 fps patch and increase the graphical quality for next gen.
I've heard this many times. Sadly, The developers have confirmed that there won't be an update for next gen and the game is feature complete. They will work on bugs and patches and that's all.

1st time I played I couldn't figure out skinning the crab before cooking. Good times.
I had to restart 6 or 7 times before I got it down. Luckily, I had covid and A LOT of time to spare. hahahah

Every island has 2 pieces of cloth on it. You CAN get cloth. It's good because I know what I am saying.

I cannot find cloth please help
There are 2 pieces of cloth on every island.
Cloth can be found in Crates on shipwrecks but it's not very reliable.
Cloth can also be crafted with 4 fiberous leaves and a Loom.
Those are the only ways. Hope you find it!!!!

If you want exact number values, you can look in the save file. You can also change it if you want to cheat. Here's a video on some DIY mods. It has the info around 1/4 of the way through the video

If you are new. By the time you craft or find a hammer, figure out the buttons, figure out the crafting menu, get your footing. You'll be hungry, thirsty, probably poisoned and rushing to craft an antidote that you need to level up to craft. This is rudimentary and intended to keep you alive long enough to figure out the game. Once you're used to it, you'll know what to do. Besides. I suggest swimming to the next island to level up your physical quickly. haha
I could make a tutorial for intermediate and advanced players and all 3 would be different.
so you made a tutorial, and at the end state that most people know that you should use the cloth differently than how you did..... why not just record it that way then? lol
Because this is made for myself. When I was brand new to the game. After 600 hours, I know how to mitigate the dangers of another island without being encumbered by thirst, hunger, sunstroke, poison and bleeding. The tutorial is rudimentary and is here to teach you how to stay alive long enough to not feel the need to start over again.
I have plans to make an intermediate tutorial that will expand on this. "What to do after the tutorial" or even "What to do once you know what you're doing"

This game sucks on Xbox. The fact you can't remap the controller to get rid of RT as the "action" button makes lighting fires almost impossible. How can you light a fire when you alternate between LT and RT but RT moves you forward every time and cancels the action. Fukin useless!

Because if you are brand new and you follow an intermediate tutorial. You'll likely die of hunger, poison or a shark/boar/crab will get you. Then you'd come back and comment that my advice got you killed.
This tutorial was made to keep you alive while you learn and part 2 gets a little more in depth with it.

When I first started playing this game, I started over again after some days a few times, because I felt I got a slow start and wasted resources. Your last tip about building a raft right away was gold! I darted towards building a raft right from the start and never looked back. I am on day 40 and loving it! I still think you should make a “best possible beginning”.

I reallyyyy with this game looked and played better on console.. I have a Series X and i guess i’ve been spoiled by good looking and 60-120 fps games, cause this looks and plays pretty bad to me 🫤 It’s a fun game but i wish the devs would at least release a 60 fps patch and increase the graphical quality for next gen.
I've heard this many times. Sadly, The developers have confirmed that there won't be an update for next gen and the game is feature complete. They will work on bugs and patches and that's all.
