So I have to ponder...how many years before that shop turns a profit? Even shops that have been around a long time don't spend that kind of money on equipment. Not being negative just trying to figure out how can I do that.

As a woman who knows how to use most tools, grew up on a farm and even was a mentor for a robotics team, I literally cried when I saw that table saw! I love to see everyone succeed but to see you realize a dream as a female in a not so female friendly profession is so nice. This feels very different from most shop tours where people are kinda flexing their big tools that they have that they don't really need, this feels more like showing all that you've accomplished in your process of achieving your dream of actually putting these tools to good use with a great business plan and not just making silly random stuff. I've seen your entire journey and I'm inspired by your motivation, keep it up April!!
I also just spent around $10,000 on several Grizzly equipment pieces. Glad to see I made a good choice. Bandsaw, table saw/shaper table, drum/disk sander and two lathes.

Congrats on your progress; it's very rewarding I'm sure! As someone who has a similar shop with similar equipment, two quick suggestions before all the ducts go in... 1. Move the wide-belt sander closer to the planer. You are going to be doing lots of slabs, and even at 24", many slabs will not fit on the planer, so the first tool that will process them will be the wide-belt, and it is located in a very inconvenient place to do so. You'll use the slider after the wide-belt, so moving the wide-belt 'upstream' would be good. 2. While that dust collector LOOKS big, it is actually NOT going to be enough to support the shop tools AND three CNC machines simultaneously. Your shop is big enough that you will need to bail on the big green bear with regards to dust collection and actually build a system that has an airlock and an outdoor cyclone that dumps directly into a bin/dumpster so that it can run continuously. If you don't have that, you will be shutting down all machines multiple times a day to empty the current dust collector. Wish you the best of luck as you grow your enterprise!

My uncles machine shop, was laid out now it takes a lot of time and energy to move equipment around and my uncle was known as the move it man. Its good you found someone who knows how to set up a shop for good work flow. Id have someone make me a jib crain to handle material movement in the shop. That and a fork truck. For logs a clamp truck used by the printing industry to lift and move logs. Put stick on sand paper on the clamps or anti skid tape. These are made to move big rolls of paper. A large jib crain on an I beam down the center of the shop that way moving slabs won't require a fork truck all the time in and around the machine's. 1 ton should do it but electric. Also a swing boom. I know these are used in machine shops to move metal, but they work with any media.

I know that dedication and hard work can go a long way towards achieving what you have, but it also takes money...something I don't have, nor can I obtain. Some of the things that I want to do require some of the tools you have such as the CNC 4X8 machines. I guess what I am trying to say in a nutshell is that I realize what it takes to get to where you are now, and I am so very happy for you!!! You hung in there and made it happen! “Willing to work hard” is only PART of the formula for success. Others that “help you” (Whether volunteering their time, Money or knowledge) should be noted if we’re being honest....having said that success is a beautiful thing if it’s passed on to others willing to work for it....food for thought!
@@justmakingit4668 This was one of the first woodworking channels I subscribed to 7 years ago because I wanted to build a table that would fold up into the wall and the video that gave me the confidence to build it (and I still use it!) was April who was also new to all this . I've just been amazed at what she has accomplished in those 7 years, and sometimes it's really interesting watching someone see their very first videos again and see how they react to it

Long ways from a basement in washington state that you outgrew in a hurry with and as I remember a super garden space. You never let your dream go. I don't think that your ever going to stop at least in the foreseeable future. Love every thing that you've accomplished

I am so very, Very, VERY happy for you!!! I know that dedication and hard work can go a long way towards achieving what you have, but it also takes money...something I don't have, nor can I obtain. Some of the things that I want to do require some of the tools you have such as the CNC 4X8 machines. I guess what I am trying to say in a nutshell is that I realize what it takes to get to where you are now, and I am so very happy for you!!! You hung in there and made it happen!

Place I used to work (was there 40 yrs before retiring) put in an enormous copy machine (biggest I’ve seen ever) right outside my office. I put a sign on the wall behind it that said “USS Kitty Hawk”. The boss was not amused.
