- I have talked about doing this for a LONG time, and now I am finally attempting to edit down some FTL runs! We are going full click bait thumbnail, editing for time, RUclips sellout content creator mode! This is the Slug A run that started the successful cycle streak, edited down to less than 30 minutes (from 3 hours)! Let me know in the comments if you all like this edited format and if I should do more...GG, cookie time!

I like the edit! One request, maybe keep some full fights, especially if they were nail-biters or especially challenging? (Like the Lanius Bomber fight might have been cool to keep). Just my opinion, you know what people like to see way more than I do!
Yup, a similar suggestion I've heard from others. Figuring out the balance of fight gameplay and decision making (shop purchases, upgrades, etc.) is something I will hopefully get better at. Thanks for the feedback!

Hey Rand, I liked this new style! If I could make a suggestion, could you please include the score and save game manager breakdown after the run? The ending just feels a bit strange without it.
Yeah...I planned on doing this, but stupid past Rand didn't show the score and save game manager in this run, lol. We were having a discussion about Tourney scoring and that was what I showed on the original stream. I will definitely show those 2 things on future highlights (whenever past Rand remembers to show them). Great suggestion!

I first expected a half hout highlight reel of the whole cycle,
But this is even better.
My plan (if this video format is liked) is to do a highlight video of each run in the successful cycle. Kind of a "best of" to commemorate my first completed cycle streak.
First time viewer here, and I really enjoyed the editing in this video. I was about to wstch another highlights video just to find out it was the first one lmao
Yup, this is the first of (hopefully) a series of highlights. I plan on doing at least 30ish of these videos and maybe more if they're popular, and I plan to improve my editing skills as I go!

Very impressive choice of edited content. I think I will still tune into Twitch as a preference to have more time to take in the advice and discussions with chat.
This does show off some of your skills in keeping a flow of discussion with chat and the gameplay at the same time!
It's also great that Rand118's puns have been increasing now that the pressure is off, or so it seems...
Great to see a highlight video. How long did it take you to edit down to 23 minutes?
About 2.5 hours...which I'd probably get down to a shorter time if I get better at it. If this format is something people enjoy (aka, gets a lot of views), I can hopefully get faster at it or hire somebody to do an even better editing job than I could ever do.
this is how I watch your long form videos when i don't have time. Thw fonts can change but great work otherwise!

If that works out with the intended result, then by all means go for it, these are good too.
But personally I'd prefer if you also keep uploading like the long unedited ones on the side as well (with Twitch chat showing, if at all possible).
I will always do the long form videos on RUclips, as they're super simple to export from Twitch. These edited videos would always be a "bonus" piece of content if people enjoy them.

The edited version is very good for most people who can't possibly keep up with 8+ hours /wk of FTL. I would get it if it's not sustainable to do it this way as it takes too much time, but nice treat for the RUclips folks here!
Glad you enjoyed it! The response so far has been pretty good, so it might take a while (like one video a week), but my plan is to get the entire successful cycle edited to this format eventually...so at least 28 highlight videos (that will hopefully get better as my editing skills improve)!

This is gold.
Just some constructive criticism:
- show us some more full fights, particularly close/difficult ones
- show us some fights after you acquire some new weapons or system so we can appreciate the impact it had on the run
- video could probably be 50% longer to fit in those fights without cutting too much other content
- I like how you showed the whole flagship fight, showing some of the struggles to get to the flagship will make that fight feel more impactful. As it is it looks like you're flying through the whole game until the flagship but I know there's all sorts of challenges on the path there that weren't really shown. As a viewer I don't have enough time to get attached in any way to the ship in the video
Good suggestions, thanks! This was my first full run edit, so deciding what to leave in and what to take out is definitely an interesting decision. Many people have suggested putting in more fights, and I like your idea of showing the ship upgrades, weapon purchases, and system purchases with a fight or 2 afterwards to show their impact. Always wanted highlights, if it doesn't take too much editing more of this would be amazing
It was about 2.5 hours of work to put this together. Hopefully I can get faster and better at editing and choosing fights/choices in the highlights that make an impact on the run.
I kinda loved the old longer videos, but I do have to admit I've almost never fully finished one.
The longer videos will ALWAYS be uploaded. This new format would be highlights from the successful streak runs. So my plan is to upload highlight videos of the successful Cycle Streak runs (this video being the first run of the successful cycle on Slug A).

@@timecubed Every FTL run is ALWAYS posted on my RUclips channel, even the lost ones. They're all in the "Hard mode, NO pause" playlist. These highlights that I'm adding will just be the successful runs making up the successful cycle streak. That's my plan.
@@rand118 ok yeah I got it. I recognized that this highlight video was for the first run in the cycle, and then finally realized what you meant. Not sure how that took me so long to understand but thanks for clearing that up for me.

Show more of the fights and boarder events, not just the rewards! That's where all the gameplay in FTL actually is (IMO)
Good suggestion. If I keep doing this format, I need to find a balance of showing gameplay and showing how the run progresses (ship upgrades, shop purchases, and rewards from fights). This was my first editing attempt, so hopefully I'll improve!

Do you not like zoltan crew for the late game excess power? Or just win too much since you can just spend that money on earlier power?
I'm fine with Zoltan crew if I get them for free. I try to avoid buying ANY crew unless I'm desperately behind on crew count. Buying crew is usually too expensive unless I'm very ahead on scrap.

Good feedback! I took a bunch of goofy pictures to make a parody of the "clickbait" RUclips thumbnail, so I'll probably remove the ones people don't like. I also agree about the font, thanks for the suggestions!
