  • January 25, 2023 stream, playing FTL on hard difficulty with NO pausing! Get ready for a salty day because we have some difficult runs! Our first random ship today is the Rock A, which is so tough because you can easily run out of missiles. We end up getting a teleporter because of this, which makes the run feel decent. However, FTL can always pull some crazy shenanigans to take you out, so prepare for some Salty FTL! -- Watch live at / rand118

Two ships for the price of one, what a treat! Even though that must have been painful for you. I, for one, appreciate the suffering you put yourself through for our entertainment 😂🤣
Nobody can say you didn't fight to the very end on the Kestrel there. Never give up! 💪
That Rock loss was brutal. People can 2nd guess all they want, and maybe it's in good faith, but man. With a jump that ugly and unlucky there's not really anything you could have done. You've got the skills but sometimes the dice just go against you 🤷🏻‍♂️

There probably are situations that are unbeatable, but I try to avoid saying "there's nothing I could do." I get salty and frustrated and if I just say "I'm unlucky," then it will be hard to improve. Always gotta review and see what you can do better!

Rock A is good for venting, however you are significantly more likely to die to lack of O2. If you get boarded in O2, they can take down your O2 before you can vent them. This wouldn't be a problem, if your crew were able to get over there to stop them damaging it on time. Rock crew move slowly.
This means if you have just vented that part of the ship you now have to choose between boarders and repairing O2. If you choose boarders, you will need to heal your rock crew before repairing O2 a lot of the time. Because rocks take longer to heal and move so slowly. By the time you have done all this, the ship will be vented, and IIRC it's not possible to then move rocks quickly enough from the healbay to O2 and repair before you lose crew to suffocation.
Okay, so you could repair O2 instead of dealing with boarders, but this isn't an amazing strategy because the boarders could be taking out your shields and weapons.
Don't forget that all of this logic applies to other scenarios.
Boarder drone in the O2. Congrats, now it's vented and breached, and you have a drone to deal with and it's possibly even worse than before
Missile to the O2 that causes a breach? Same thing, altohugh at least you just need to repair it and not deal with a boarder
All of these situations are also much worse if you are having to alternate between powering O2 and something else.
The O2 is what makes the layout really annoying.

To deal with teleporters I have the engines rock man doors at the start of each fight. They'll get to engines in time before a shot goes off if no teleport. The other scenarios, worst case, I think you might end up letting o2 go to 0% and focus on finishing the fight. Rocks have enough hp that you can walk to your o2 system from the medbay without getting softlocked like mantis. I'm more scared of o2 damage with mantis ships
