i just saw one tuesday night going thru newtown station in sydney. Very same Speno machine seems to be used by Sydney Trains

They have water sprayers and extra sprayers if needed.
Saw a subway version of one of these in my city. 140 deafening decibels of loudness and clouds of ground steel like a welding shop. Yes your ears will hurt after a few seconds which is why the transit authority temporarily closed down the underground stations.

Im Dunkeln habe ich so einen Zug auch schon gesehen. Das gab einen schönen Funkenregen, als er über eine Brücke fuhr. Nur leider gab es damals noch keine HD-Kameras.

Vielen Dank! Ich wohne ja direkt an der Bahnlinie. Der Zug musste wegen der Streckensperrung hier halten, sodass ich genug Zeit hatte um ihn zu identifizieren und zum möglichen Einsatzort zu fahren.

So what do rail grinders do anyhow? Outside of grind the rails, what purpose does it serve?
The rails surface wears unevenly over time, the grinding redresses the surface for smoother running.
Where exactly they did grind the rails? Only on gradients? Or entire length of the rial
only where the wheel sits.
Is this just me or was the sound of grinders used in dead space 3 as a sound of a power generator...after slight bandwidth modifications.

So what's the catch with that procedure?
If you regrind the same rail a bunch of times it will need to be replaced but if you need to grind it that much the rail was probably fucked from the start.

Das habe ich vor Jahren mal erlebt. Der Zug setzte sich in Bewegung und plötzlich sprühten die Funken. Ich wusste erst gar was dort vor sich ging. Dann fuhr der Zug über eine Brücke, was einen schönen Funkenregen zur Folge hatte. Das ist aber schon einige Jahre her. So lange habe ich gebraucht, um so einen Schleifzug vor die Linse zu bekommen.
