the Lello bookstore was about to close. with so many harry potter fan visitors, customers were unable to buy books. then the entrance is paid, but if you buy a book, you have a discount equal to the entrance price. so if you want to visit, buy a book and end up paying nothing. the bookstore also has other things worth seeing. as very rare books, one of the first editions of "os lusíadas" the most important portuguese book, from 1600's and the first edition of the "mensagem" another extremely famous book in portugal. in fact, when it was on display, people came from all over the country just to see it. at least that's what they told me.
@@TripleP You definitely shouldn't miss this place! It is from the graphic designers that did for example the Daily Prophet in the movies. I'll give a quick rundown of what truly did inspire Rowling, even to a small degree, and what didn't. True: --The robes at universities --António Salazar (Although part the Slytherin founder's name originates here, it is, I think, a bit of a stretch to say that he was primarily based on Portugal's Salazar. It's just that the guy is now seen as a bad dude--being a fascist dictator leads to that--and that his name has an appropriately sibilant kind of sinisterness to it.) --Majestic Café (This is actually the correct syntax, though it does follow the English adjective + noun order. Also, while Rowling has mentioned writing here, the place has always been ridiculously expensive, so it's hard to believe that a humble English teacher, who would go on to live on public assistance when she returned to the UK, would have been a regular there.) Not true: --Well, obviously everything else. And that includes Livraria Lello, a place Rowling noted on Twitter that she had never visited. My source for all this: JK Rowling herself.
That's fantastic! Have you been to Porto before? Knew about these inspirations? As for the house, I love Gryffindor. Suits my personality more than the other houses. What about you? 😍
Fantastic! I have a video also out on 5 top things to do in Porto and a day trip to Aveiro from Porto. After the first week of April I'll also have videos up on Lisbon and Lagos! 😄👍🏼
I'm Portuguese and hearing her pronounce every single place with a Spanish accent really made me cringe. People need to understand that Portuguese and Spanish are two different languages, we might have similarities but accent is not one of them. Portuguese and Spanish don't have a good history together so please don't ever mix Spanish and Portuguese because both ethnicities won't appreciate it
Hey Andréa, Firstly thank you for your message. I will take it as constructive criticism and work to improve my accent depending on what I am presenting. It is true that yes I speak Spanish and not Portuguese But at the same time I would like to point out that you did not mention anything except the language aspect. It would be nice if you could've also said something about the content, videography, effort, etc instead of only focussing on the one element you didn't appreciate. But thank you for your input and will look to improve in the future. :)
@@TripleP i did in fact really enjoy this video and i'm happy that you had a good time in my country, i just didn't state it because all the comments i saw where positive. By the way, did you know that if you buy a book at the Livraria Lello, you get your entrance price deduced from the price of the book itself. The library used to be free but many people came and didn't buy anything so the owners are doing this to get a bit of money from the visitors that come and don't buy anything :)
