The Yellow Rose of Texas is a traditional American folk song dating back to at least the 1850s. Members of the Western Writers of America chose it as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time. Several versions of the song have been recorded, including by Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson and Mitch Miller.
This song became popular among Confederate soldiers in the Texas Brigade during the American Civil War. Upon taking command of the Army of Tennessee in July 1864, General John Bell Hood introduced it as a marching song.
Lyrics:
There's a yellow rose in Texas that I am gonna see
Nobody else could miss her not half as much as me
She cried so when I left her it was like it broke her heart
And if I ever find her we never more will part
She's the sweetest little rose bud that Texas ever knew
Her eyes are bright as diamonds they sparkle like the dew
You may talk about your Clementine and sing of Rosa Lee
But the yellow rose of Texas is the only girl for me
Where the Rio Grand is flowing and the starry skies are bright
She walks along the river in the quiet summer night
I know that she remembers when we parted long ago
I promise to return and not to leave her so
She's the sweetest little rose bud that Texas ever knew
Her eyes are bright as diamonds they sparkle like the dew
You may talk about your Clementine and sing of Rosa Lee
But the yellow rose of Texas is the only girl for me
Now I'm gonna find her for my heart is full of woe
We'll do the things together we did so long ago
We'll play the banjo gaily she'll loves me like before
And the yellow rose of Texas shall be mine forever more
She's the sweetest little rose bud that Texas ever knew
Her eyes are bright as diamonds they sparkle like the dew
You may talk about your Clementine and sing of Rosa Lee
But the yellow rose of Texas is the only girl for me

I have 7 older brothers and I am the only girl. Plus I am the only child that was born in Texas. I was born with blonde hair and green eyes. So my Mama called me her "Yellow Rose of Texas". On my 18th birthday she called the radio station and had them play this song. She also sent me two dozen yellow roses. Now every time I see yellow roses or hear this song I think about my Mama.
That's sweet

New subscriber here, this was my late wife's favorite tune, wish she was here to listen to this, well done and please keep up the good work !!!
Such a shame they removed the old one for "hate speech"; like how can a song about a soldier wanting to meet his love hate speech, ridiculous. Thankful to have this rendition, though it is not the same as the one that got deleted but love it regardless.
Sick and absurd times. The west is no longer what it should be. But it could become great again!
I love this song. I'm from Germany and don't understand, why this song should be so bad in the States in modern times?!
@@rosisweetyBecause it was a favorite song of the Confederacy during the Civil War. But it's a stupid reason.
They also hate the song "Dixieland" despite the fact that Abraham Lincoln said it was his favorite song and out of respect, he had it played for General Lee when he surrendered, ending the Civil War.
@@rosisweetyMy nephew just introduced me to the German marching song Erika! Beautiful song!! 🇺🇸 🤍 🇩🇪
No more brother wars! Next world war, I'm fighting on the side of Germany no matter who is fighting who!

I Like To Say : That's A Real Incredible Patriotic Song , It's Has A Wonderful Good Sense For Texas , You Know Something Probably In Those Times Of The Civil War Those Soldiers Might Have True Texan Spirited And True Texan Blood In Them , And They Might Of Show Their True Bravery For Texas , They Show Their Spirit For Texas ,
And They Will Be Always Forever In The Heart Of Texas ,
As They Will Be The Part Of The History Of Texas Forever .
So As A Texan I Say

Confederate troops sang this song on the retreat following their defeat at the Battle of Nashville in December 1864 They added a verse which goes You may talk bout your Beauregard or sing of General Lee but the Gallant Hood of Texas he played Hell in Tennessee
sick
Howdy!!
Number 2 song in Texas now. The number 1 is "To Arms in Dixie"
is it just me or when in the context of marching songs, English and German language sounds very similar?
No they share alot. US manrches tend to be a Mix of british songs interms of how they are sung, while sharing the structure and General thematics with German marches. No coincidence at all there
I can't help but notice that a Mississippi regiment is shown. Mississippi is some 673 miles from Texas.

This song was panned for racist tones? I understand that the Yellow Rose was a biracial woman but the song paints a picture of an exceptionally beautiful woman. Not just a "Black" woman. Lighten up, people!
will history be thrown into the pier and burned for the sake of this new order?
Business idea !
I wanted to impulsively push that like, but the cost would be too great...

Had to stop when Mitch's singers mispronounced "Rio". Not the original lyrics, but a catchy tune nonetheless.

I like this march but not with this god awful vocal style that ruins many US marches and I mean that not as a slight, I understand this vocal style is very signature to US marches. Often it's just not a good fit, especially when they throw random inharmonious women vocals which sound not pleasant because they are often yelling which takes away from it's natural attraction of being a softer voice than a man's
Then the man vocals almost sound pompous and bombastic but without heart
Overall Yellow Rose, Johnny marching home and Battlehymn Republic are the best US marches when done proper
Think there will come a new chance for southern states to build Confederation apart from decadent Yankee USA

Song about a lady of mixed color sung in an awful way by racists. You must know the background of the song.
I was today years old when I learned this 🙈 To be quite precise: reading abt some old Spike Lee movies got me to it. I'm far from US so no wonder but still! Always thought about, well, a flower 🤷♀😄
