1) It’s just for the dramatic effect, 2) It’s top 5, they’re expected to taste every component of their dish no matter the time crunch, they shouldn’t serve something whose quality they’re not 100% confident in to the judges
bacon is a flavor that takes over everything. and once it's been cooked once and you then cook everything else in the fat it just tastes burnt to me. I have no idea why you would let it anywhere near salmon.

Trevor has the most effort but fish eyes aren't everyone's favourite, it looks like the dish is breaking apart when cut, the crispy one looks tasty but has a mismatch with the bottom texture, Brenda has all that covered, textures are great, looks yummy on the inside and outside which appeared to be juicy and appetizing even when presented on the menu where everyone likes to see.
One thing barry did wrong was he put the salmon in the pan the wrong way round. Always put the skin side down first or you could end up with soggy soft Salmon skin
Why are we pretending that this is good cooking? And on national television? How did they cast someone who has NEVER COOKED SALMON??? Using torches on wood??? Besides, anyone who watches this knows that they teach the contestants how to make the dish before they even make it…
Legit each one of em could have used more time to make their dishes better. You have 45 minutes or half an hour or twenty minutes to come up with a dish, you have to stick to what can be done in that time frame. Even whats his face had undercooked potatoes. Starch generally takes longer to cook.

Wtf does Asian inspired mean? That's like saying European inspired. Way to group a continent of like 30 countries with as much of a divergent on cooking style and recipe into one word. If you gonna use fish sauce, Vietnam inspired. Or southeast Asia inspired.
