Am I the only one from a remarkable community? I am currently holding rm2 and waiting for rmpp, which has been delayed for ship (I ordered on Sep 5 and heard that Sep 25-Oct 7 may be the earliest shipping date for me). Meanwhile, I found an alternative option, which is supernote A5X2. I am so excited to compare these two and know more~
Thank you for your comment and question. I don't think you are the only reMarkable user but I do tend to see more Supernote folks, primarily because that is the tablet I use. That being said, I talk more about productivity and organization, not just specific devices. Thanks again for the comment.
Thanks Ed for the update. I'm in the camp of super excited for the release of the A5X2 but also patient and can certainly wait a little longer if necessary. I would also like to say that in general I have loved how transparent and open Ratta have been with their customers to date. Its a fantastic instinct to have. With that said, having watched the recent launch of the Remarkable Paper Pro, which came out of nowhere, I'm now inclined to think in future, Ratta should follow suit and only announce and launch when they are truly ready. Aiming to launch new products to a declared hard deadline is incredibly difficult, for all sorts of reasons. but especially in a field where the technology is developing and changing fast. I think Ratta has been criticized unfairly by some of its customers for their postponement decisions. The A5X2 is a very important product for Ratta and my guess is they have been working incredibly hard, behind the scenes, to make the A5X2 "best in class."
I couldn't agree more about their motives but do worry about them going the full secrecy route, transparency and community engagement is one of their greatest strengths. Thanks for jumping in.
Ratta wrote "We know you've been waiting patiently" and there is me reading every other day a new post going on about "where is my A5X2 device release?!" ;) That short info was just to cut down any rumors about moving device/more information release into October and in the mentioned post there still isn't a hint about actual release date. At this point I'm only a realist that reads carefully what's written before getting any hopes up.

While there have been people posting and very impatient, there has also been a lot of support for the company. I would say the majority have been more understanding. That being said, I think you are right to have some skepticism just in case.

I want to add a few corrections / clarifications though, since you focused on the whole context and details, which is indeed important. 1) Regarding the delays Ratta has not only delayed the A5 X2 twice, they have in fact delayed a lot more often. To be fair, on August 2nd hex2asc replied to a comment asking “Is A5X2 going to be released in Q3?” with “YES.” and on September 10th another official (Mulan-sn) commented “A5 X2 is expected to be released this month, 2024. We will provide more information about the product launch soon. Please kindly stay tuned!” - but at this point these predictions are as trustworthy as all the other ones before. The concerned and / or angry comments are already starting to pile up again below the announcement and given the heated discussions and shifting mood in the Reddit community lately is was really not a wise move from Ratta to be so vague again. 2) Regarding the naming Nowhere did they call the A5 X2 “Manta Ray” afaik, they just wrote a post titled “Manta Ray Inspires Supernote A5 X2” showing this weird concept study sketch. In that same post they say in a comment “There are other tasks to be done, such as giving A5 X2 a name.” - so there simply is no name yet (or at least they are not sharing it). 3) Regarding the link on their website They have changed it in the meantime and it is now pointing to the post discussed in your video. 4) Regarding the screen Mulan-sn confirmed Eink Carta 1300 screen for the A5 X2 on September 10th. So yes, that should mean it’s made of plastic, making it more robust and hopefully reducing the number of screen defects that were reported about the A6 X2 Nomad and many other devices using a screen with glass stack. The size is 10.65 inches and and not 10.7 though, according to the display specs and Rattas other comments on Reddit. Thanks again and best regards!

I was mentioning the delays this calendar year and should have been more concise. I do feel there is too much angst out there. 2. The Manta Ray was bad word choice on my part. I should have not said tentative, but informally or something similar. The post did lead to some people referring to it by that name, although not company representatives. 3. I know they have since corrected the website. I emailed and they confirmed but the video had already been posted. 4. Apologies on the screen size, there are too many dimensions floating around right now. Thanks again for adding to the conversation.
I think your 4th point is a bit off. All signs point to a Carta display on the A5X2, which is the same general display tech as the A6X2. Mobius is the display type that was used on the A5X, and is flexible (plastic). Is there something I’m missing here?
@@kiellunsford1184 Eink panels are offered with different layer stacks, so you often don’t really know what you’re dealing with by just looking at the product name. Also the company doesn’t offer much insight into this. However Ratta official Mulan confirmed a while ago, that the Nomad has a Carta 1000 display and their website mentions 7.8-inch Glass EPD. Most specs for the Carta 1300 however indicate a plastic stack and that matches Ratta’s confirmation that the A5 X2 screen will be more robust. So indeed A6 X2 contains a delicate glass layer while the A5 X2 shouldn’t.
Although not interested, I am happy with my Nomad. Am curious to know why it took them so long with the A5X2? I wonder if there are major differences between it and the Nomad.
Thanks for the comment and question. Personally, I think it was a ton of small things and a few big ones. First, the chips set for the A5X had hit end of life but they might have thought there were enough to keep the device in production until the launch of the new one. Also, I think they were waiting for the new Carta 1300 Mobius screen with 300ppi and the demand for that might have made it hard to purchase. They have stated there were logistical delays but we aren't sure exactly what they were. Finally, they may have just been trying to finalize the right design based on community input. We will see. Thank you for your comment and question. I don't really know more than what is public, but they have stated that they hope to release it by the end of the year. A lot will depend on sourcing components I would imagine.
@@Change-1820 There is no way that the A4 X2 is going to launch until end of this year. While their roadmap claims that, right next it it says “Progress: Pre-research”. That is a very early state followed by EVT, DVT, and PVT phases which take quite a long time. Also about two weeks ago their Chief Chat Officer ”hex2asc” posted this comment on Reddit: “The A4X2 device will feature a 13.3-inch screen with 300 DPI resolution. However, there is still uncertainty regarding the mass production and delivery schedule from the EINK screen supplier. Therefore, we are unable to provide an exact timeline at this moment.” Second half of 2025 is maybe realistic.

It’s Friday morning here down under. Still no further news from Ratta. I am still hoping there will also be some news about the A4X2, although I doubt there will be much they are able to say. They seem to be at the mercy of the whims of their outsourced manufacturers.
Thanks for the comment. Yeah, I am not sure what is going to happen. It is Friday morning in China as well. Only Thursday night here in the U.S. though. Hopefully we will hear something soon.
I’ve had my Nomad for just about 2 weeks and sadly it now has lines across the entire screen. They had me reconnect the ribbon cable as a test but it’s worse now. I’m hoping they can get me a quick replacement because I love this thing but it does make me a bit hesitant about the products long term since this issue appeared on a new device.

I'm not clear why they are calling this the Manta Rey. The name Nomad made sense, first because A6X2 is not a catchy title, but also because it's a smaller device and the name conjures up the idea of portability. Will the A5X2 be waterproof?

Jeffrey, bad word choice here on my part. Instead of tentatively, I should have said informally. As others have mentioned, it was not a formal name but based on a concept drawing as part of a post. Some users have informally adopted the name on Reddit. Sorry for the confusion.
True, but a lot of companies are not offering multiple colors. Considering their size, I think one color makes sense. As they grow, maybe this will change.
There is nothing in the way of “malpractice” here. Supernote employees are not medical, legal, or other professionals of any kind. They are manufacturing company. There’s no “malpractice” that can be done.
I'm not quite sure of the point you're making. They are more than a manufacturer, but I also said I didn't see it as malpractice, but some did. Malpractice is not just reserved for lawyers and doctors, but also extended to professionals. Again though, that was not my point. Thanks for the comment.
