It is easy to assume that very low-income earners are restricted to public housing. However, provision has been made by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development to enable these low-income earners to afford safe and clean housing in the private rental market through a program known as Section 8.
There is a large information gap between properly applying for Section 8 and actually being accepted. Obtaining a Section 8 voucher will require multiple steps on the applicant’s part.
Some of which include: following up on applications, waiting list status updates, attending a housing briefing, finding adequate landlords, and more, hence the reason for this guide.
Section 8, also known as the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCV), is administered by public housing authorities (PHAs) in various localities to assist not only low-income earners but also the disabled and elderly in obtaining decent and affordable housing.
The vouchers administered through Section 8 allow qualified individuals and families to spend no more than 30% of their income on rent.

I am applying for the section 8 voucher because I just lost my husband and my rent on the house I’ve lived in for 10 years has gone up so ridiculously and the house should be condemned the landlord is the biggest slumlord of all. My income is very little and I’m not sure how I can make it without a voucher. I’m going to look into the voucher program. Thank you for this information.

I'm being evicted because my slumlord got mad i called the fire department because several times there's been carbon monoxide! He refuses to step on the property to address the mold, rats, carbon monoxide, etc! I CANT FIND AN APARTMENT BECAUSE OF MY LOW CREDIT SCORE, THIS IS SO RIDICULOUS AND ILLEGAL! 😢

I received a letter/note in my apt door April 10th, 2024 stating I'm under-housed for the apartment size vs household size AND I have 30 days to find other accommodations per Navigate/HUD. However, after speaking with management about the letter/note and meaning of, I was told they have no where to place me and basically I'm on my own(my problem not theirs). So who/where do I go to not be homeless again (12/29/2023 to present)?
So sorry to hear that I have a amputated leg and I have no help either. I try to get many jobs but not once have I got hired.

She also kept all my belongings and even my dead mother's ashes,my kitty cat,and 3 days to get my stuff,and I'm disabled and alone. I get the run around where ever I go for help.😢
