    This is detailed guide on how to get low income housing for the homeless or those who are in need affordable housing assistance. I have the actual HUD operations manuals that will show you how to best answer their intervention assessment questions, and how to score high on the housing prioritization wait list.
    Under the requirements of the Homeless Emergency Assistance and Rapid Transition to Housing: Continuum of Care Program (HEARTH Act), the Continuum of Care has implemented a coordinated assessment system. Coordinated assessment is a powerful tool designed to ensure that homeless persons and persons at risk of homelessness are matched, as quickly as possible, with the intervention that will most efficiently and effectively end their homelessness. The Coordinated Access System described in this manual is designed to meet the requirements of the HEARTH Act, under which, at a minimum, Continuums of Care must adopt written standards that include:
    (i) Policies and procedures for providing an initial housing assessment to determine the best housing and services intervention for individuals and families.
    (ii) A specific policy to guide the operation of the centralized or coordinated assessment system on how its system will address the needs of individuals and families who are fleeing, or attempting to flee, domestic legal issues, but who are seeking shelter or services from non-vic service providers.
    (iii) Policies and procedures for evaluating individuals’ and families’ eligibility for assistance.
    (iv) Policies and procedures for determining and prioritizing which eligible individuals and families will receive transitional housing assistance;
    (v) Policies and procedures for determining and prioritizing which eligible individuals and families will receive rapid rehousing assistance;
    (vi) Policies and procedures for determining and prioritizing which eligible individuals and families will receive permanent supportive housing assistance;
    The Continuum of Care has designed the Coordinated Access System described in this manual to coordinate and strengthen access to housing for families and individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness throughout the city or County.
    The Coordinated Access System institutes consistent and uniform assessment and referral processes to determine and secure the most appropriate response to each individual or family’s immediate and long-term housing needs.

    When I was asked all those questions, I wasn't moved on the waiting list at all, it's pretty shocking. I was homeless, with severe mental illness and absolutely no income (trying to get on disability) but they pretty much told me I was out of luck. This is very good advice though, maybe I was just unlucky. I'm finally about to get into public housing after a year and a half of waiting and being stuck in an abusive home in order to stay off the streets. I wish everyone seeking housing right now the best of luck, it's not easy by any means and the system really feels like it's rigged against you sometimes.

      The questions in this video are for COC housing not HUD Housing.Im glad however you are getting housing after 1.5 years.Typically COC housing 30 - 60 days.I should note that if you don't answer the questions correctly to rank the result will likely be long wait for housing

    One of the public housing in Chicago for the Chicago Housing Authority that I applied to online a while back is an estimated for over 25 years which it is the waiting list. So is it a possibility that I can get my apartment any time soon or a lil longer? I’ll love to get my apartment sooner and I currently stay with my mom. I just rather have my own place. I’m been praying and hoping that I get my own place sometime next year in the year of 2022. I’ve been updating my info for this waiting list every year for the over the last 2 years now. I’ve been being real patient for it. I hopefully I’ll get it sooner

    First off, huge thanks to you for the time and effort you have obviously put into this.
    I live in Las Vegas and have watched all of your content countless times. I have searched for the Southern Nevada CoC Operations Manual multiple times but have not been able to find it. I also am not completely sure where to go to have the assessment. I have called the Southern Nevada Social Services and they said I can come into any of their offices but in order to have a the CoC assessment done I will have to be back on a return appointment which is over 2 weeks out. I was under the impression that this assessment was to be done asap, not 2 weeks out. My point is this all has me wondering if I am not taking the correct route.

    Hello, I just came across your video. Hopefully you may have some advice. My family (husband and minor child) and I want to relocate to California and we literally have a notebook full of places that we've attempted to apply to. We are on a few lists for section 8 as well as being placed on waiting lists for certain complexes as well as housing authority wait lists.
    For the most part we keep getting told that either the wait lists are closed or that the lists are very long. Our lease where we are currently living (out of state) ends at the end of October and if we can help it we would rather not have to sign another lease. I receive SSI disability. Would applying to a COC be beneficial in our situation? Thank you for any advice you could give us.

    • @Section8Consulting
      @Section8Consulting  3 года назад +1

      If you combine disability with a story about being homeless for 1 - 3 years, I think you find a COC most accommodating! COCs are much faster than HUD but your also in overloaded system in Cali , topped by the virus, So, do I think a COC is faster option ? Absolutely.

      Hi Stennisha
      I'm sorry to hear about your situation , especially for your children.So. the 2 main options would be applying at a COC or HUD but with Covid-19 this may prove difficult as a lot of places are not open or by appt only.The COC housing tends to be faster than HUD and was designed for situations like yours.You can apply by phone at either 211 or 311 and then get an appointment.The people who man those phones are not the brightest bulbs, so make sure they give you the number and address to (The Continuum of Care) location to apply for homeless housing (Rapid Rehousing ).Don't let them give bunch B.S numbers to places just the COC.One other thing you should know! You may have in your mind that shelter are full crazies and filth but that only the men's shelters,.Women's shelters are much nicer with pvt rooms for your kids and the whole situation 1000% better than what men go through.So, don't let news and tv scare you into believing all bad.

    If I am the only income earner on the lease and one of the tenants leaves and is released from the lease, will I be evicted for "making too much?"

      No, your rent payment will change slightly. The rent is the rent no matter if its 1 or 2 people.

    Hello!
    I’m receiving emergency housing in a motel in Toms River, New Jersey. I have called 30 places today and I can’t find subsidized housing. Only 4 were even accepting applications but their wait lists are 2 years long or more. What do I do?

    • @Section8Consulting
      @Section8Consulting  4 года назад +8

      It sound like you went HUD and got a PHA Public Housing Assistance.This means your scored very high on there questionnaire and given the rare emergency hotel assistance.I don't think you know how lucky you are, getting this.1.they won't wont tell you this but you can extend that hotel for 12 months.2. In order to extend that hotel you have to actually apply at these places, not just call them.3.It's well know tactic to weed people out by saying there is long waiting list , however in reality those lists are often way shorter ( don't buy into the BS they tell you).4.The places you apply at must follow HUD rules, so those most in need like you,will take priority on the list.4.If your still in that hotel after 6 month you qualify as homeless and qualify for much better program called the COC Continuum of Care or housing first. They are able to house you in around 30 days with no red tape or lines.

      @Tonimarie:
      Thanks for sharing your testimony but how did you do it (receive motel voucher for 30 days)? I'm not too far from you (I'm in Mount Laurel New Jersey) and as Cyber Mixologist said, what you got is a rarity. I called the local social services department and got offered shelter which makes me uneasy go along with during this pandemic happening
